Great location, you can go for a 2km walk along the botanical gardens, or hire a taxi, hire a car or use shuttle buses from some of the pubs. Good kitchen and great shower and bathroom. The swimming pool was spotless and wonderfully refreshing after the high heat of the day. The outside baths were great too, and I found it surprisingly very relaxing being able to look at the sky and wildlife while sitting in a bath!

There were two days of high temperatures (39 degrees) and I found the slab hut hot. I had to keep the air conditioning on it's lowest temperature and even then it didn't always cope.

Saltbush Retreat was perfect for our short stay in Longreach. It is directly opposite the Qantas Founders Museum and a short distance from the airport. The cabin was clean and fully equipped for self catering. The pool was a nice relief from the hot weather and the outdoor baths would be great in winter. The owners were lovely and very helpful during our stay.

The accomodation is about 20mins walk into town which would be quite easy in cooler months along the botanic pathway. Many restaurants however offer courtesy bus services if you are dining for lunch or dinner - details of these are provided at check in and quite useful if you didn’t have a vehicle during your stay.

Absolutely amazing little country retreat in the heart of Longreach with modern and clean rooms with authentic character. The Saltbush Retreat is conveniently located opposite the QANTAS Founders Museum and the Stockmen’s Hall of Fame. From check in to check out the staff were lovely and welcoming and provided a list of recommendations for dining. The Stables and Huts are a must for your stay. The area has outdoor baths which were amazing for a night of star gazing. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone travelling through.

The central QLD area is pretty hot and the even with the aircon on, the cabins were a little hot, but cooled down at night. We looked in "The Stables" and the aircon was a lot better. If we were staying for multiple days, we would book the Stables.

The Saltbush Retreat is in an excellent location, across the road from the Qantas Museum and close to the Stockman's Hall of Fame which are both a must see if you are in Longreach. The retreat and accommodation is superbly detailed in an elegant rustic style, providing us a wonderful experience.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get a regular cabin as they were all booked out and had to settle for a special accessibility room in the stables. It was still lovely with a different bathroom configuration. My only gripe is there is no daily housekeeping service, and for the room rate I would have expected this level of service.

The slab huts are quirky, but well done, comfortable and well equipped. Very enjoyable stay.

Minor points, but stopping me giving a rating of 10. The wood slabs are shrinking - to be expected. Gaps are appearing to extent that you see daylight through the walls in multiple locations. Suggest they are in urgent need of re-caulking. Parking outside the slab hut area is a pain. Trolley supplied for luggage is inadequate. It has small hard wheels which are not only difficult to pull over the many joints in the paths, but also very noisy and annoying for other guests. Something like a pneumatic tired Bunnings garden cart would be much better.

Picked up from airport promptly by Ron, friendly warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. He and Wendy were excellent hosts and answered all my questions, they were completely on top of anything, wish everywhere was like Saltbush. Room was spotless, comfortable and suitable for me. Also after I checked out, came and picked me up with my luggage, which I left with them, from the Stockmans hall of fame, and took me to the airport, even though it’s not far, was much appreciated.

Nothing really, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Saltbush Retreat and would definitely stay again, next time in a slabhut.

We booked 1 night but wanted to extend it another night. Wendy and Ross went out of their way to sort something out for us, even though they were fully booked. We stayed the first night in a 1 bedroom cabin, which was well set up. I liked the separate living area, enabling me to stay up without disturbing my husband's sleep. The second night was in a Slab Hut. This is luxury accommodation decked out in appropriate furnishings and is cosy and romantic. You can luxuriate in an old style bathtub filled with warm water, outside, and watch the sunset, wonderful after a long day on the road. The slab hut even has a pod coffee machine.

Nothing to not like.

We stayed in a slab hut which was a recreation of an original settler timber hut. It looked and felt authentic but still had all the things you'd expect including a well equipped kitchen, air-conditioning and a good hot shower. It was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and despite the gaps between the timber slabs the room was well heated by the AC at night. The location was perfect for us, being next to the Stockman's Hall of Fame and across the road from the Qantas Museum. There was a luggage trolley to take our luggage the short distance from the car park to our hut

Like all regional Australia the wifi internet was slow.

Absolutely wonderful stay at Saltbush. We were greeted by a lovely, friendly man (his name escapes me) who gave us a great recommendation for a butcher so we could get some steaks for dinner. The entire place is cozy and rustic. We didn’t use the baths but they looked so cool! Rooms were spacious, our cabin looked out onto some grass with kangaroos grazing, which was a delight for our 9 month old. It had everything we needed, including wine glasses, I only wish we’d bought a bottle from them! Highly recommend, we had a lovely little stay :)

Very comfortable and feel good friendly welcome. A trip down memory lane with nostalgic artefacts around every post, wall, garden bed ... corner. Saddlery and tac from years gone by but still in good condition, taps, troughs, lights, girth straps (clean 😉) bunks with iron rails and the strongest gidgee posts, head boards reminiscent of those in sawn timber slab huts of long ago when things were built or modified to last... and fencing, windmills and pumps to also evoke memories of childhood visits to grandparents farms and properties. I loved it!!!
