This is an absolutely splendid family-run hotel right in the heart of downtown Melk. You really couldn't ask for more. It has charm, history, and a hard-working family that keeps everything running smoothly. It was hardly a 10 minute walk from the Melk train station to the hotel. Our particular room was positively spacious, with large comfortable beds, a jet tub and a shower, and absolutely magnificent views to the Melk Abbey on the hill above town. The view of the illuminated Abbey from the room at night was absolutely stunning,(one of the most amazing sights in Europe IMHO), and the double-paned windows kept out street noise and came equipped with both blinds and heavy drapes to shut out any light that might disrupt a good night's sleep. It was warmish when we visited, and the A/C worked perfectly with the windows shut and kept the room at a very comfortable temperature. The "European" style buffet breakfast was absolutely fabulous, with meats, cheeses, breads, fruits, juices, and coffee fresh and fully stocked each day. Really something to look forward to each morning! They also have a gourmet-level restaurant in the evening with indoor and outdoor seating serving up all kinds of creative as well as authentic regional dishes, as well as a cozy indoor bar where you can grab a beer or some schnapps after a hard day's sight-seeing. And a gelato ice cream shop right next door that served up vodka lemon sherbert ice cream - a first for me - and wildly delicious (and mildly intoxicating!) The staff was extremely helpful in planning our adventures each day, including accessing the Abbey, planning a Danube day cruise, and even renting e-bikes from their private garage for a modest fee. Overall you're just not going to find a more satisfying experience than staying in one of these family-run hotels, and Hotel Restaurant zur Post in Melk is just the best of the best.
Everything was great!

The staff was really nice. The hotel is comfortable and in the main square of Melk. The breakfast was amazing, lot of different options, omelette or eggs on demand, good cheese and meats. I only missed some sparkling wine and the coffee quality was so and so. The room was big and clean. I would have liked to have cotton swabs.
It's true that we booked in Easter and short notice but the room price was quite expensive for this category (and you have to pay separately the city tax for 2.5 eur/person).

Excellent breakfast with such nice little touches! Their homemade jam is amazing and the choices are great. But it’s the owner, Marguerite, and her sister, Ursula, who deserve my highest compliments. They could not have been nicer or more helpful. When we arrived we got specific help with our itinerary (above and beyond) and then we enjoyed coffee and cake in the tiny front restaurant. They also set up the nice sauna for us and the amazing Melk Abbey was just a short walk away. We would absolutely stay here again!

The location is perfect, walking distance to the old shopping street and in view of the kloster. It's very charming and solid. We also ate dinner there which we enjoyed very much, and breakfast was above average. A helper at breakfast gave us fantastic advice about how to plan our bike trip for the day.
Our room was large enough, but it was totally yellow lighting, from the huge yellow ceiling light and the light bouncing off of the chartreuse walls and curtains (why does that color exist)? I did everything to get some regular white light in there but it was always dark yellow and the chartreuse needs to go. I was really hot at night despite keeping the window open.

Breakfast was delicious and lots of choices. The location is really delightful and I had dinner on the front terrace looking up to the Abbey on the hill above the town. Quite magical. The restaurant is quite popular and they recommend booking which I did. Staff are helpful and efficient. a short walk to the train station with my luggage, just a bit of uphill going from the hotel back to the station. The Abbey is outstanding and requires time to explore both inside and the garden.

The staff were magnificent! That must be the highlight of the stay. Yes, the hotel looks nice, the location is spectacular, breakfast was as nice as reviews were promising, but the staff took it to the next level. Madame Doris waited to welcome us deep into the night as our road trip took longer than expected, they took care of our car when the parking garage was already meant to be closed, we were served drinks way past the bar closing time. And all with a smile! In my books, the smile is what makes the difference and secures the value for money.
I guess, having stayed in Melk previously, only in a different place, we may have expected fancier, more modern looking enterier. The room and bathroom were fine, but, given the price, somewhat below our expectations.

This is a small family run hotel, so it’s a good idea to phone in advance and notify of arrival time. They helped us book a table for dinner and left us the room keys in a safebox outside the hotel. Breakfast was good. There’s a small dedicated parking lot behind the hotel in a back street with a back door into the hotel.

We spent a lovely evening at this hotel. Wonderful restaurant, super friendly staff, you can really get the feeling of a family business. We were in transit and it was raining, so to our regret we didn’t get the chance to explore a bit more the area but we hope to get back soon.
The beds and pillows were a bit hard. The equipment in the room was a bit old but everything worked perfectly.

Staff were super friendly and they speak English which made it very easy. Location is perfect. Facilities are very good. Room has almost everything. Small but super sufficient as well as the bathroom with v good water pressure. Danke !
I wasn't fan of the carpets but I think most of the traditional homes/hotels have that. The menu can be translated better but to be honest I didn't ask the staff for any explanation I am 100% sure they would have explained it happily. The best was a sponge which wasnt the best for more than a night but it was good for one night.
