Beautiful hotel, comfortable and clean with authentic Bulgarian decor and a great view. The breakfast was excellent with pastries, eggs, cold cheese and meat , yogurt, toast and nice coffee with more if you wanted it. We had two evening meals there which were very good. A wide choice of Bulgarian dishes with local wine at a very reasonable price. The staff were very friendly.

The OLD Town Of Veliko Tarnovo doesn't meet the modern standard of comfort, is crowded and space is a luxury... BUT at Gurko Hotel all is at maximum - plenty of space, a beautiful view to Yantra River around the monument of Asan Dinasty. We had a suite - two rooms, each with own bathroom. Extraordinary continental breakfast is more than you need to start the day; even vegetarian menu is an option for those with huge appetite!

well... if you are booking a room in the modern hotel of Veliko You will have the best view - the old town! but if you are in the Old town you will see that comunist hotel no matter where you stay in the old town..

This is a small hotel with a very nice restaurant attached. The old town is perched on steep hills overlooking the valley and the views from the room were spectacular. It was rainy during our visit so we had dinner at the restaurant and it was great with excellent Bulgarian dishes. The staff cleared a space for us to park our car in their garage so we didn't have to hike. The room was more like an apartment - airy and comfortable. Only stayed one night but visited the main attractions.

Everything was great. No parking on the street but they solved that.

The room we had, an upper floor one with a big balcony, was wonderful. The view was great - albeit there is a gross old communist concrete hotel (now closed) across the valley - and we loved sitting on it after days out and about and before dinner. The breakfast service was exceptional with plate after plate materialising and the food/drink was good. The road is very quaint and quiet although taxis don't like coming all the way to the door but as we are fit it was no problem trundling our bags up the road after the taxi from the train stn..

The wifi was a little strange with two different routers to check into depending on where we were in the room/balcony. I think that is because our big room used to be two and had been knocked together (in a extremely well done way). Once we had a signal the power was fine allowing us to check emails and listen to Radio Caroline!

The location in the old town was amazing. About a 15 minute walk to fortress snd 10 minutes to new town and plenty of restaurants. The staff were helpful and let us park in the garage. Breakfast is traditional, huge and tasty - especially the pastries and fruit. We had dinner there and that was also enjoyable. Room was huge and quaint.

Room while quaint was a little dated. Bed very low and air conditioning loud. Also they charge for coffee and tea in the room. That’s it - overall I think it’s an amazing traditional hotel and the views, location and food are great.

This hotel was well located and cosy. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. The staff, although English was not always easy were willing to help. Breakfast was excellent although far too much food for me to eat was provided! I had dinner one night in the restaurant and that was good too! The historic area it is in is worth a walk around, and I would recommend the free walking tour of the city - it was excellent. Veliko Tarnovo was a nice place to visit for a few days and this hotel a good place to stay.

The shower was over the bath (I think I had an economy room) and it was impossible to shower standing up without completing soaking the whole (enormous) bathroom. Also the view standing up on the balcony was fantastic but it was too small to sit for a relaxing drink.

The traditional hotel in a stunning location central to Veliko Turnavo. Rooms were a good size, everything we needed. Breakfasts were amazing. Traditional banitsa, pastries, plated meat, cheeses fresh flavoursome tomatoes and fruit, variety of cooked eggs. Muslei or cereal with toast and juice/ coffee - sets you up for a day of exploring!. Parking was great and most of all the staff were welcoming, kind and want you to have the best experience. Miro especially was a delight!.

Nothing all was excellent.

Not very crowded, very quiet during the night time. Good restaurant, with traditional meat recipes, and good wine selection list. The personal id friendly and helpful.

Parking places are very limited, and might not be enough for all car travelers! The alternative is to park the car on the adjacent streets, hoping that you did not park on other residents spots. During the evening, the streets are fully loaded with the bulgarian residents cars, so finding a reasonable spot could be a tricky adventure.

We stayed for one night, at the beginning of August. Since the TV didn't work in the first room offered, we were moved from the top floor, the last room, a small corner of the attic, to the ground floor, to another room that was spacious and appropriate from all points of view. This saved our impression of Gurko Hotel, an authentic historical building, with an incomparable belvedere, and of Veliko Tarnovo, a delightful historical town with the scent of the era, where we will return with pleasure.

A traditionally decorated accommodation unit, located on one of the most picturesque streets in Veliko Tarnovo. The room had a nice balcony with a perfect view over the Iantra river and the Assen Dynasty Monument. Despite looking like an old building, it has an elevator covering all the floors. At a decent walking distance there are many shops and restaurants, along the main city bulevard. Not very far from the Tsarevets Fortress neither.

The hotel had a limited covered parking, which was full, therefore we parked our car in the street during our stay. The narrow street currently supports a two way traffic, very inconvenient for the pedestrians. The Wi-Fi connection is very poor. In the first day, it was completely inoperative. It was repaired during the second day, but it still had a too low speed. At the breakfast we could not find two places at the table, thus we sit in the next room where nobody was at that time. It proved to be reserved over the entire breakfast time and we had to move back to the main room were two places became available meanwhile.
