I wanted to share my experience with the mattress we had. My wife and I have been dealing with back pain issues for a few years now and our first night there we found the mattress too firm for our taste. However the following morning something amazing happened. We both woke up feeling absolutely refreshed and our back pain had suddenly just disappeared. The next night and every night we slept there, the mattress actually felt great on our backs and we were able to hike the beautiful city of Quebec for hours without any discomfort. We are now back home as we write this review and the back pain is already starting to return. We are so impressed at the healing effects of the firm mattress from the hotel that we are now shopping for a firm mattress for our home. I felt compelled to share that story here because the hotel mattress alleviated our back pain. We stayed for 5 nights during the final wknd of July and we were so grateful for the great Air conditioning. The front desk and staff were excellent. The room had everything we needed and the water pressure was great. The breakfast was fantastic as well. We are definitely staying in Hotel Relais Charles Alexander next time we’re in Lovely Quebec city.

- Good location with private parking - Old French charm - Comfortable bed
- Beware of very narrow and steep stairs which are not for the disabled or faint hearted (and no elevator)

We were there for the Quebec Winter Carnival and the location was perfect, everything was in walking distance and the night parade (which is the main event) is on the same street as the hotel. We also asked to come early to drop off our car and the staff were really happy to facilitate that. The building is very cute and feels very classical. The breakfast was delightful, they obviously bake the croissants in house because as soon as we came down the stairs in the morning it smelled so good!
The shower hot/cold was a little temperamental but after some fine tuning I found a good temperate, but you need to move it only a mm at a time.

advised on a later check in and was offered easy instructions for a seamless arrival. breakfast although small, had excellent croissants, jams, bread, and cakes, great way to start the day! staff was excellent and always on hand to answer questions. had an opportunity to meet the owner in the lobby and he was very welcoming and interested in our visit to the city. will definitely recommend this hotel to any one who intends to visit Quebec City. the hotel even offers free transport on the public transport system which we found very useful.
everything was great

Location was perfect for me as I had a wedding to attend just down the street and wonderful for walking on the Plaines of Abraham. Also lots of good restaurants close by! The room was nice but as it was on a busy street a bit noisy when you open the window. Staff was very helpful for providing information etc.
Room did not have a proper bathroom. I am tiny and I found the shower on the small side but was okay for a couple of nights. I travel a lot in Europe and around the world and I find hotels in Quebec City are generally hugely overpriced for the quality. But I guess that's the market price. Othewise charming well located address.

It's a beautiful hotel, very clean and comfortable with a lovely, generous breakfast. It's a sweet place with art on the walls and a lovely ambience. It has a charming appearance being in an old building, covered in vines! You will not be disappointed! It's about a half hour walk to the old town. It was nice to have access to a kettle to make cups of tea, as this was not the case in most of the hotels we stayed at in North America and Montreal! We loved hearing the peaceful classical music played in the dining room and reception area.
Just needed a spare roll of toilet paper, though this was no trouble to find! We could have been informed that we had access to the kitchen facilities at the end of the hall, by our room, but we did find this out when we asked. It would have been nice to have tea cups in our room, but these were provided when we asked and this is a very small matter!

We were able to walk to the heart of the city and back for everything we wanted to go and kept finding new surprises along those walks. The property is near the Parliament building and a nice street with shops and eating places, which we didn’t discover until our last day because it’s the opposite direction from the old section of the city. The breakfast room is light and airy and we enjoyed the delicious coffee, croissants, fruit, cheese and more.
The rooms are a little small and our views were of the parking lot, although not all the rooms have the same view. In room 21, beware the bathroom doesn’t have a door - just a curtain and a screen. But I suspect that room is rented out only when the place is full. At least I hope. :-). And if you’re traveling alone, no problem.

General impression is very nice. The building is awesome, very stylish, with nice paintings on the wall. The room was exceptionally clean, everything was neat and tidy. The location is not perfect, but it is near the center. The staff was very pleasant. I was impressed by the classical music at breakfast:)
Just a several ideas to improve the impression: - There is no mini-bar in the room. It would be great to add tea/coffee station and a bottle of water in the room. The price is not low, these things can be easily added to make the stay more comfortable. - I've noted that there will be two people in the room but we got only one shampoo and one shower cap. That was surprising. - It would be awesome to make breakfast more diverse. There were only sweet options, while some people prefer something salty like eggs, cheese, oatmeal or sausages.
