If you live in the UK, are you aware of this amazing "back door" hack to get to France?! There are daily ferries from Newhaven to Dieppe. They take foot passengers, too. Oscar Wilde and Walter Sickert travelled this way more than a hundred years ago! This hotel is located in the centre of it all: the harbour with all the restaurants, the high street, the market, the famous Café des Tribunaux. You can also walk to the cinema and the beach from here. An amazing feature was the comfy Reading Room under the arches. It even has a piano.

I booked everything last minute and chose to pay extra for breakfast. But you might as well have it in a café somewhere else in town.

Very good and comprehensive continental breakfast served by smiling staff at your table - not one of the free-for-all battles called breakfast buffets that so many hotels have descended to today. The hotel also has a very good and attractive restaurant and terrace.

the Booking.com site says the hotel has free parking - most Dieppe hotels seem to make this claim. What in fact is meant is that free nearby parking is available, which is true. In high season, however, expect to have to hang around quite a while before you find a slot. Once in though, you can stay as long as you want.

The big problem was the excessive noise from, particularly, motorbikes from the car park opposite my room overlooking the port. Riders were deliberately racing the engines. I know this is not the hotel's responsibility, but the noise during the day and evenings meant I had to keep windows shut in what was a very, very hot spell of weather.

We were not intending to stay in Dieppe as heading for the Dordogne. Sadly we had car trouble and hence booking to stay the night. The car trouble proved worse than we thought and either we had to limp back to the UK or hire a car. Searching for car hire in Dieppe came up with a big NO car hires available. I asked the owner for his help and he was wonderful. Said leave it with me. Next morning we were heading South again, in a hire car. So a huge thank you to the gentleman whose name I sadly did not get, for all his help.

The French breakfast was excellent (with maybe a boiled egg would have made it perfect) and the service was efficient and energetic. I liked the 'oldness' and character of the place, enhanced by the wooden panelling and appearance of the restaurant (we'll try the evening meals next time). The location was excellent and everywhere easy to access. We used a taxi from and to the ferry port. We definitely liked the 'huge' market on the Saturday and the late evening market by the quai. It's a romantic place ;-)

The wifi signal was very low in our room (405)

Typically French - staff very pleasant and helpful Very clean and tidy with a nice view over the harbour. Good quality restaurants nearby.

Parking was quite difficult with having to find and use public car parks close by

I was able to park my vintage car out the front of property and knew it would be safe. Chatting to the hotel owner about his passion for motor vehicles. Very friendly and welcoming. Clean and large rooms

A lovely hotel over looking the harbour and surrounded by restaurants.

The bedroom was dark and dreary. Too much Brown! It could do with brightening up. A couple of nice colourful pictures would have made all the difference. Fortunately, our room overlooked the harbour, so we did have a great outlook. However, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower room was lovely and exceptionally clean. We do hope the management will take note and perhaps splash out on a bit more colour in the rooms in order to take away the dreary feel. Despite our feelings on the decor we would be happy to stay at the hotel again and to also recommend it to our friends and family. To the Management l would say please review your colour schemes or at least put up some colourful pictures in the bedrooms.

Wonderful traditional French hotel. Fabulous restaurant with white linen tablecloths and napkins. And delicious home cooked food. Loved the little sitting room with a piano for guests to play.

Close proximity to quays and short walk to beach areas.

No kettle in room and parking. However, parking was close enough but meant a bit of a walk with bags if you couldn't get close enough.
