It's a great gîte/auberge. Perfect for doing the Camino/Chemin. I love the building and the kitchen and spacious lounge area are wonderful.

Nothing really. All good. I would only suggest that (if possible) a mix of nationalities be put in each room because although I speak 4 European languages, I was in a 4-bed dorm with three others whose language I don't speak. That would be off-putting to someone on their first Camino so, although it's not the owners' fault that my room mates were exclusive and very rude, MIXING the nationalities would hopefully help avoid this issue.

Handy location, well-equipped kitchen and very pleasant dining/sitting room area. Great place to begin the Camino - make sure you book as SJPP is a very busy town!

The reception is not attended at all hours and other pilgrims, including those without reservations, walked in off the street and had to be assisted by hostel guests. Even a sign out the front saying the hostel was full could have prevented this.

Friendliness, being met at the railway station as part of the service, good facilities and nice breakfast at fair price.

My mark about cleanliness is a reflection of the fact that it is an old building and some redecoration would be desirable. Paintwork on old woodwork does not always look clean, even if it is. Many places have not received normal maintenance during the economic difficulties of the Covid period, so I retain the Excellent overall mark. They are also operating at full capacity now with short change over periods.

Located very close to the town centre. The shared bathroom was ok, however it had a blocked shower (when notified the owner, he dealt with it straight away). There is a lounge where you can rest and kitchen to prepare meals (well equipped). The check in is flexible. Easy communication with the owners. They offer breakfast.

The shared bedroom I meant to stay in was in theory for 4 people but in reality for 5.

The welcoming hospitality Lydie provided was great! Very responsive to any questions! Kitchen was good - had everything we needed. Great central location too! Very reasonable price!

More electrical outlets in the first room we as only had one plug in for the two bunk beds (people). We had a different room the second night and it had ample plugs.

Gitte Compostella is 900m from the St Jean Pied De Port train station. It is located in the town centre. The owner Lydia and her husband are exceptionally accommodating and very friendly. They picked us up from the train station and check us in immediately. After our train was delayed, cancelled and changed. Do pay £6 for the breakfast. Highly recommended for Camino pilgrims

As it is an old building, there are sound and the busy traffic .

I have walked the Camino Frances 3 times and each time I began my journey at Gite Compostella. I always stay in a private room to help get over jet lag before I begin my walk - each time I have had a great night sleep! Location is convenient to everything, very welcoming hosts, easy check in, and they offer a wonderful breakfast. Great stay!

The property has a historical rustic feel to it which fits the date and area of its location. Its very close to the centre of town and easy to access

The building itself can be quite loud, old style doors and locks etc and very creaky when trying to sneak around to go to the toilet. To be expected though of a building this age I think.

This Gite has a lot of character and over the years many international pilgrims of the Frances Camino have gathered here to cross into Spain on the route Napoleon. The operators are friendly, efficient and offer kitchen privileges and an early breakfast to send the pilgrims off prepared.

Very friendly staff. Picked us up at the train station. The Gite was centrally located and a terrific starting point for our walk. Beds were comfortable.

It’s at a busy intersection and can be noisy during the day but totally quiets down after dark.
