I literally liked everything about this place, but the service is impeccable, with a smile, and beyond helpful. Truly stand out. Everything I requested--toiletries, help with spa booking etc, was all done super well. I had the most basic room and it was gorgeous. The turn down service was lovely. Room service food and restaurant were also exceptional. Honestly, I cannot wait to come back. Also the SPA--do not overlook it, it was amazing as well.

The wifi blocks VPN usage apparently. When I asked about this, a staff member came to help me personally and was amazingly helpful. The paid option didn't help and when I noted this to the manager, she didn't charge me for it. I honestly felt so taken care of.

Overall the stay was very good and comfortable, we initially had some issues with our room due to miscommunication between the hotel staff, the fault wasn't ours. But all the TAJ staff were very understanding and kind to us when we were upset. Everyone including hotel staff can make mistakes but it's how you address the issue and make your guests comfortable is what matters in the end which is exactly what the staff did. Other than the above, the breakfast area and food itself is nice, the hotel decor is also quite well done. Pool area is also nice.

Some of the room interior and exterior were a bit dated/old

This hotel is close to the airport so very handy if you're taking flights to other places from Kolkata (we were going to and from Darjeeling). I would recommend you get the hotel to organize your transfer from the airport -- their Innova is clean and the drivers are so helpful. We stayed at the Taj Newtown for a total of 6 nights. We loved it! Every single member of staff is helpful, respectful and friendly, and speaks fluent English. The hotel is super clean, the rooms are huge, the beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are spacious and hygienic. Everything you could want is available -- even your own iron and ironing board in your room. There is a lovely outdoor pool and a great gym -- both of which my kids found were perfect. The buffet breakfast and dinner were AMAZING, so much variety, so many delicious dishes, also you can order extras like pizza and barbecued sizzlers and all kinds of roti. The cakes and deserts are unbelievable! We met the Sous Chef, Bhubaneswar Chatterjee to thank him for the gorgeous patisserie -- he had trained abroad in some grand restaurants which explained the high standard. The restaurant is beautifully and efficiently run. We also met with Sujit Dey, a head chef, who was kind enough to make some special Bengali dishes for my children, and he discussed his recipes and gave me some great cooking tips. He was also kind enough to provide a packed lunch for us on the day we checked out because we had a long wait for our flight back to the UK. Really, the care and friendliness of the staff made us feel so special and welcome. The surrounding area of Newtown is very impressive, a real regeneration project for Kolkata. There is a wonderful luxury Indian sweets centre opposite the hotel, a modern shopping mall right next door, and a Westside clothing department store (second floor for lovely Indian styles) within walking distance. Newtown is a bit far from the centre of the city, but we will definitely stay at this Taj again!

Honestly, there was nothing at all to complain about.

This was our first stay in the Taj group of hotels in India and we were pleasantly surprised. The room had tasteful decor along with all facilities and also was very clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable and we had a great sleep after a tiring flight. The breakfast was good with a lot of choices. The staff tried to make our stay with a small baby as comfortable as possible.

We had booked the room about a month before but the price was steeper than usual. After meeting the person who had come to pick us up at the airport, we had to wait for about half an hour for him to get the car.

The Staff! Housekeeping and Restaurants, especially. Mr Shankar Chakraborty leads Housekeeping and is often on the floor at breakfast asking guests if there is anything more at all that they need. A diligent, pleasant, empathetic gentleman. To be highly commended. The same could be said for the front of house restaurant supervisors. Excellent and busy. The service staff, both dining and cleaning staff are obviously trained to be engaging and add the personal touch - they all do this to an exceptional standard. Never in a middle category room have I ever had a handwritten note from cleaning staff and flowers decorating my bed. The very environment seems to encourage the best out of these staff. Carol was a trainee in the cafe restaurant at breakfast. A little nervous at first - I returned nearly two weeks later and she was blossoming, happy, called me by name - well done the managers for developing this young person with real potential. I did have an issue at check in. However, the night manager quickly resolved it. Admittedly, I had just arrived from Mumbai after a cancelled flight and messing around and was not in the mood for issues.Thereafter, the staff could not have done enough to ensure my continued comfort. It was obvious that absolutely everyone knew about it.

Upgrades are always very welcome and appreciated, but advising on added costs is a courtesy. Where this was missed on two previous occasions concerned me. Cost isn't an issue at all I am fortunate to say. But check in staff presuming to spend my money for me is. I absolutely appreciate that front office reception would have to be one of the most challenging jobs. But Reception staff did seem to be very mixed in their tone and attitude - from very friendly and helpful, to superior and surly. Told that the hotel could not offer two pages colour printed visa documentation urgently, could have been delivered without the superior, brush-off tone that came with being told vaguely where to go - to the street and turn right.

I liked the property and its facilities too. The swimming pool is big enough except one should be careful as it is not deep and there are many stairs or corners that one might slip or hit their legs or head while swimming. I booked a club room with a jacuzzi, their food was really delicious with enough quantity, unlike other big hotels that fool you in the name of food with overpriced and less quantity of it. The housekeeping staff did a thorough cleaning of the room every day while making sure everything was squeaky clean. One con: there was no shed or roof above the jacuzzi and since it was raining both days during my stay there the jacuzzi got a little dirty, the rooms above had visibility to the jacuzzi so no privacy in terms of being comfortable in your own space. Strong advice: don't keep your door open that has access to the jacuzzi your fire alarm might go crazy as the room's temperature fluctuates if your jacuzzi's water temperature increases. Thank you!

Everything was great. High quality service. The staff have really good behaviour. The room was spacious and had a great view and a big infinity window as well. Absolutely loved it.

However, i would like to recommend the hotel to improve the lunch buffet. It is expensive but the items were low in numbers. not targeted properly towards tourists who are coming from Bangladesh I would suggest them to have variety of curry consisting of fish and chicken. Desserts also need improvement honestly. I think i paid more than the mentioned price in booking.com reception should acknowledge the pricing based on booking. Room service had a delay but overall i think this was one of the nicest experience lately.

Complimentary Breakfast was wonderful with a beautiful buffet and also some meals you can order from the kitchen. Chai, Dosa, Paratha etc. The cocktails at the Wykiki restaurant are superb. The overall service is supreme. Many talented, professional and smart staff members. There are more than enough staff members available to service your every need. Our rooms were immaculate. We were served breakfast in the mornings often by Kashif K who always was so attentive and kind. Also Debanik at the front lobby was able to give us great information on our travels to the downtown area. The doormen were so helpful. My family was there for a 9 day stay. We were in Kolkata for my cousin's wedding with festivities in both Barasat and Tollygunge. So the location at New Town was ideal as it's between the north Barasat area and the downtown area. Also there is a nice mall next door, City Centre New Town, just within close walking distance for your every need. The Jiva Spa in the hotel is AMAZing! As someone who has gone to spas all over the world. - this was one of the best facial/massages I have ever received. The gym on the rooftop has all types of machines and weights and is surrounded by windows overlooking the pool and the city. It is the type of gym that invites you in unlike many of the gyms in other hotels. We stayed at the Taj Connemara in Chennai just after this which is nice but I will say that Taj City Centre was a much better experience.

I was totally amazed by the attentiveness of the hotel staff! From pre-arrival where they ensured I had all information I needed to connect with my driver at the airport, to the reception I was given at the hotel where offering a warm memorable welcome was obviously important to them - just sensational. The room was absolutely comfortable with very nice bath products. The room service was efficient and the food delicious. I left very early the next morning but this experience has ensured that I will return again in under two weeks when I will be in Kolkata again.

As Per the Taj Standards 3 things to works as soon as possible to maintain the image and Standard of Taj 1. Face towels have to Provide (Small Type 30X30 Cm), Inside the Room theirs is no face towels even we ask to the Housing keeping the are failed to Provide the same. 2. Iron Box Make and Model ORPAT is not matching to TAJ Hotel, the provided Iron Box is very Cheap and low quality of Iron Box, have to Change with good Quality of Iron Box with Philips or any Good and Excellent quality. 3. No Body lotion + No Face towel + No weighing machine + inside the Bathroom the Light is very low, you have to increase the wattage of light I hope to increase the Lumens.
