We found the location exceptional. We loved the experience of staying in an old mountain house and our room had unbeatable views. Hiking around the area was great also. We had homemade food delivered to our room everyday and it was delicious and more than enough.

Our first impression of the host was terrible. We arrived early and waited outside. Unfortunately my partner needed to use the toilet and he rang the bell. I think us arriving early might have stressed our host out. He invited us in 10 mins before the check in time (it was starting to rain) and we came in thinking that everything was ok. I tried to make myself a cup of tea and he told us to go to our room in the most unfriendly way. I was very uncomfortable from that moment on until we left. On a positive side, that was the only time he was unfriendly with us and his wife (and Chef) was lovely.

I needed a place to stay for two weeks, for remote work, and couldn’t have asked for better! Had the best office view, great outdoors to unwind, and the cozy familiar environment Hajime and his family created in their guest house! The lively house dinners where you can meet other guests were a highlight. Really felt like a far away home.

The only challenges I had during my stay were slow internet from time to time (had the furthest room) and the need to rely on the few public buses to move around! But Hajime was kind enough to give me a few rides :) and there’s the option to rent a bicycle!

Good location, train is 2km and bus just 200m aways but I never used the bus ☺️ The hosts are extremely kind and caring while being a typical Japanese people 😉 As a vegetarian, I prepared all my foods ingredients and cooked there with 100 yen fee but I tried their breakfast which was very Japanese one and delicious!! Thanks to the host, I didn't have to walk with my sac-a-dos to the train station on the check- out day and could be on time and took the train while paying the ticket at destination: definitely missed it if he didn't drive me and told I could pay the ticket at destination! Thanks a lot to the host ❤️❤️ Many places around to immerse yourself in the nature with some animals in the forest: During my walks I saw deers and sika deers, birds, monkey, snake, kind of partridge with very very long tail... Didnot see a bear in the forest but in and edge of the guesthouse 😃 A old style japanese house very charming, plenty of historic trace...

a bit noisy at time but I don't mind for my one week stay!!

This was such a magical trip getting to stay in an old inn with a beautiful view of the mountains. My soul really needed this stay and everything was fantastic. Mr. Tachikawa and his wife are very kind people. Their kindness, hospitality, and Mrs. Tachikawa’s cooking touched my heart and soul. I learned so much about the history of the Otaki village and got to meet & connect with amazing people. I will definitely be coming back to Otaki and staying at their guesthouse that felt like home.

Nothing. Everything exceeded my expectations.

The view was absolutely breathtaking. It is possible to go play/swim in the river down the guesthouse (the path is quite steep but 20mn not even) and the water and view are amazing! The beds are really comfortable. Hajime-san is very kind and helpful. There are many hikes to do around and if you are just here to enjoy nature the buses do reach the Mitsumineguchi shrine which is the main attraction around! The food was also delicious !! My partner and I loved staying there.

One of the best accomodarion experiences we’ve ever had! Incredible views of the beautiful japanese forest which you see from the moment you wake up. You can enjoy this view while being served a delicious breakfest or dinner. The host is so nice, and you will always feel welcome and taken care of. We really enjoyed our stay - thank you so much for celebrating my birtday with me :-)

Hajime, the owner, was super helpful and kind. We ordered dinner and breakfast and it was delicious. The guesthouse is a traditional, rustic, old-style Japanese house and it was exactly what I was looking for. The view from the room was absolutely gorgeous! I was on foot and walked from the station to the guesthouse- about 30 mins. There are a couple of places to eat nearby, by foot or bus - all delicious! I spent a couple of days walking in the mountains nearby. It was an amazing experience- very rustic, but that was exactly the type of place I was looking for. Thank you Hajime!

The food prepared was delicious! The place has a great view that will relax you. It would be a great place to stay with your friends. There are no other guests when I booked the stay so it was rather quiet (except for the cars passing by) but the walls are made of wood so it might be a bit noisy with other guests.

Since I'm a girl and it's my first time travelling alone, I was a bit anxious at night because there is no lock on the doors. There are no other guests when I booked the stay but I was still a bit scared. I know Japan is a relatively safe country but still I'm not comfortable to sleep somewhere without a lock. I didn't know about this when I booked it. But overall, except for this, the stay was good!

I think for the price I paid the house cleanliness/maintenance is what I would expect it to be, I liked the DIY/messy home feeling 👀 the room had a fantastic view and was clean😍😍😍 The breakfast was simple but made with care. The owner was super lovely and accommodating. Also great hikes near by.

I don’t have complaints, but it could be a hassle for some people to get there.

Comfortable and cozy lodgings in Chichibu. We stayed for our wedding anniversary and enjoyed a short weekend trip in the national park. Tachikawa-san is a friendly and hospitable host who was very patient with our beginner Japanese. He kindly arranged pickup service for guests who wanted to see the famous Misotsuchi Isicles at night, and gave us information about the hiking trails nearby. He spoke slowly and clearly, which was very helpful. However, if you don’t understand Japanese, he also speaks good English. The lodgings were clean, and the historicity of the guesthouse gave it a lot of charm. Although it was cold outside, the kotatsu and futon were warm and cozy. Breakfast in the morning (miso soup, rice, pickles, green tea, tofu), which can be ordered separately, was delicious and a nice start to the day. I would recommend Nishiki Guesthouse to anyone who wants to experience traditional Japanese lodgings and enjoy the beautiful hiking trails in Chichibu National Park. It’s about 3.5 hours by foot to Mitsumine Shrine with many interesting sights, peaceful forests, and friendly folks to meet along the way.

Buses in the area run infrequently and end early at around 4pm, so if you don’t have a car, it’s best to get an early start and plan to return by then.
