Overall, we were really happy with our choice to stay at this hotel with our kids. It was a last-minute nature getaway to hike Mt. Takao, and the family room was perfect for us. They even allowed us to check in a little early, which we really appreciated, as this is quite unusual in Japan! The accommodation was just as we hoped it would be and the staff were kind (except for the unusual restaurant situation below). We had good expectations from the other reviews--we knew the mattresses would be thin and the pillows made of beans, so we anticipated a more rustic stay, and we really enjoyed it!

Unfortunately, we had planned to eat dinner in the on-site restaurant, but this didn't work out. They told us at check-in that the restaurant would stop taking orders at 7pm. So we came around 6:40pm ready to order, but were surprised and frustrated when the host turned us away at the door, saying "there was no food left". This is somewhat hard to believe and, even if true, they still seated another gentleman that came in after us (whether he ordered food or not, I don't know). This was particularly a problem for us because there aren't many other restaurants open for dinner in the area, so we struggled to find dinner for our hungry kids that night.

Great food and drink in their restaurant. Polite and helpful staff. Clean Easy to access good location Rental hiking gear and maps

Beds are about a 3" mat or pad, not sure what you'd call it, it has the feel of a firm gym mat. The "pillow" they give you is about 1/4 the size of a normal pillow and filled with foam or rubber beads, it's like using an a corn-hole bean bag for a pillow. Between the discomfort of the bed and 2 or 3 different people changing the A/C settings (like battling for control of A/C) all night - A/C beeps every time someone pushes a button on the remote - I probably slept 3-4 hours each night.

The clean and well-maintained facilities of the hostel offer a refreshing retreat after a day of outdoor adventures. The simple yet inviting style permeates the atmosphere, providing a serene ambiance for guests to unwind. Additionally, the exclusivity of my own room during the quieter period in May was a definite highlight, allowing for a more personalized experience.

On the downside, despite the overall cleanliness, there were occasional sounds of creaking from the bed when I moved, which detracted slightly from the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. However, given the limited occupancy during my stay, this minor inconvenience was manageable, and I appreciated the solitude of having the room to myself.

The staff made me feel right at home. I was there for a tattoo and not to climb mt takao and they were still so amazing. From the second I walked in to the second I left they made sure I felt so welcome. The restaurant has the best cook in takao 😊👍 made me wanna eat there everyday!

The beds could use a little more padding but that was literally my only complaint.

The location was great. The staff was very good and the dinner we ate there was excellent.

The beds were very uncomfortable for us. It was like sleeping on a board, and the pillow was small and full of pellets. I had to use my parka on the pillow to make it a little softer. I know it's a hostel, but I missed the part about no towels!

Good hostel near a popular area for trekkers. The interior is very well kept and new. Good value for money. Good onsen nearby, and not far from the train station.

Rooms are a little bit cramped, but the staff did well to space people out around the place. Beds/ pillows could have been more comfy. Wish they provided towels.

The lounge area was cozy they even had ukulele if you wanted to play.

Storage for luggage was outside the room. And in the room was barely any space except the bed Also if you were at the top beds you could just stand up and look over to other people's beds which felt weird.

It was very clean and the family room was spacious and comfortable with a view of mountains. There were comfortable communal spaces for eating and boiling water. There was conscious effort to recycle and be sustainable.

A little bit expensive but I guess it was the peak period. The bunk beds were abit hard for me.

nice modern wood hotel. felt like camping indoors! nice design of everything and really love the feeling and smell of the wood. restaurant and bar downstairs was nice too! and the wooden bunk beds with a bean pillow was surprisingly more comfortable than I thought.

I guess the only thing was it stated that the cafe/restaurant downstairs would open early for breakfast time, but when we checked out it was completely empty and nothing was open. so we just left.
