Excellent location--Just 3 mins walk from the tram station and the 足湯. The staff is helpful and kind, able to speak English. Truly great onsen facility--one at the ground floor the other at the top. The bath area is very clean and the onsen area, especially the outdoor one on the first floor, offers very refreshing experience of switching between hot (two truly hot onsen pool and one with mild, warm temperature) and cold (the outdoor air and the cold water pool). I ordered both the dinner and the breakfast, and both are excellent. The Japanese style room is also great, spacious and full of grass fragrances from tatami. The pillow is also filled with such stuffing with fragrance--and actually you can choose the stuffing the hardness of the pillow if you want to. Regret that I got lazy and didn't use this service. Would like to try next time if there's chances.

Location is a bit away from city center still it's convenience for our car trip, yet it's not too far since we can reach to any attraction places within 15-20 mins. and peacefully surrounding also meet our preference. The japanese style rooms are all good as well as many facilities inside the room, we have a separated toilet and baht room. The hotel is a bit old but still lovely and their onsen is very good to take a baht there before go to sleep, we love it. The breakfast and dinner is very good, there are plenty of food for breakfast and a Kiseki dinner is special. There is a small souvenir shop at the 1st fl. which we can buy many things as a gift.

It will be more convience to get here by car or taxi yet they have free private parking nearby.

We are fortunate to have the room that came with good bathroom size, but not so for my friend's room. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. I'm glad to be served by a lady who can speak Mandarin.

We couldn't book the dinner as it's a Friday. There were some issue when making the booking of room. Alot of confusion in the meals as stated on the website. Though I selected the options with room, but upon confirmation, it we changed to without meal. I didn't notice until the day I checked in. Very disappointing.

A very nice ryokan located right near a tram station. It's a bit far from the city center but the tram helps a lot. There was a choice between 2 onsens, a beautiful garden and a mini shrine in the hotel. I especially appreciated the futon laying-out service.

For some reason, I got charged 300 yen during check-out (150 per day) -- the staff said it was "onsen tax." It's my first time seeing this despite visiting many hotels and ryokans. Left a bit of a sour aftertaste because I was never warned in advance and not sure how they would count the days if I hadn't visited onsen daily. Some doorways were way too low, but that's probably a personal problem.

Warm and friendly staff; spacious, Japanese traditional room and the futon was comfortable to sleep on. We had dinner and breakfast there and the food was great (e.g., seasonal hairy crab, free flow ikura). The onsen was relaxing.

The futon could be thicker. The walls were a little thin and we could hear some noises from next door.

great Japanese food, very relaxing onsen, pleasant and hard working staff, comfortable rooms - thank you. While a way from central Hakodate, in the onsen district, trams were on time and comfortable and the fellow passengers interesting and friendly

the air con wasa bit quirky but not a big deal

Breakfast was expensive, but excellent buffet style with huge selection of offerings.

You get charged a fee for using the hot spring bath, even if you didn't(t use it. This is added on at the end, rather than being included in the room charge, as it should be. This is a form of deceptive advertising, since this isn't mentioned up front.

I had the best sleep in YEARS, and I tried every climate, bed and pillow (okay, maybe not every, but I changed 16 countries/states in 2 last years). The whole place is just perfect: tattoo friendly public bath, tradition-inspired rooms. But the bed – is the true wonder! Thank you, Hanabishi team!

I liked everything

breakfast was lovely , times to use the onsen were accommodating. From Hakodate station take tram number 5 and it’ll drop you off 3mins walk from the hotel. I forgot my charger and the hotel forwarded it to my next hotel free of charge. The staff were very nice and spoke good English. Chang was amazing and made my first ryokan stay a special one. The hotel does have a card machine, disregard what it says on booking.com.
