The dorm bad had a shutter-like curtain that protected my privacy, which was great. The facility was neat. The hotspring was awesome. They have a courtesy van for pick-up/pick-down at the station, which was helpful.

For Facility, it was a four-story building without elevator, which I could not find the information prior to my visit. I would have brought a backpack instead of a carrying cart if I had known. For the lounge, orally I was informed that the lounge was used anytime, but there were assigned sections for meals, which was not orally informed (it was written in a hand-out, which I missed to read because I did not order meals), so I felt destructed when they talked to me while I was working. In addition, it was a bit chilly there although they provided blanckets.

The room was wide. There were lounge that we can relax with free drinks (coffee, tea) and some snacks. Onsen usage time was long enough to relax. The staff was kind and detailed to explain the check in and how to use the facilities during the stay.

The place was a bit far from the Yugawara station and other facilities like convenience store. The shuttle bus was limited (2times a day before check in) and the street is steep so it was a bit difficult to move with suitcase. It is recommended to prepare some food in advance or use the cafeteria at the hotel.

Such an amazing weekend escap! It was so nice to relax and chat with friends in the common area. The shuttle bus was really convenient and there is a local bus that goes to the station. My best point is that The Ryokan Tokyo Yugawara is tattoo friendly! So both my friend and I who have tattoos could relax comfortably and we felt really welcomed. There is also so much nature and trails in the area, and beautiful beaches too.

Both me and my friend wished the pillows were softer.

The ambience of the place, we tried the kimonos and the onsen. The staff were very polite, arranged our food right on time and overall the place was clean. The shuttle service from hotel to station in the morning.

The bed sheets were a bit old, the room felt a bit damp, could be due to the weather (it was cold + raining). The location was a bit hard to reach, the steep climb after the bus dropped us off was a bit difficult. Highly recommend to book the shuttle service from station (we did not know about this option).

The room is spacious and comfortable. the Wifi is responsive. The staff is helpful and the common area with the coffee and tea is very cosy. Free train station transfer is very helpful.

No cleaning services for the 3 days I was there. and not enough towels, not even from the Onsen which the towels are normally empty by the time I visit. Perhaps the Ryokan should top up the towel supply more often. The toilet leaks a little. The walk to the Ryokan is tough as it is very sloppy up, very tiring.

I found The Ryokan Tokyo YUGAWARA while searching for tattoo friendly onsens in the Tokyo area. Our overall experience was lovely and we very much enjoyed our stay! The food was amazing and the location was absolutely beautiful. The service was excellent, the rooms and onsen were very clean and well stocked, and the onsen was wonderful after a day of travel and walking. The Ryokan provides a limited free shuttle service to and from Yugawara Station, which I highly recommend. The town down the hill from the Ryokan is quaint and picturesque. About a 15 minute walk from the Ryokan is Man-yō Park, a beautifully maintained public space with shrines and a waterfall situated along a gorgeous river all set in the lush forest.

The walk from the bus stop to the Ryokan was grueling, especially with backpacks. Previous reviewers are not exaggerating so plan accordingly! I strongly recommend timing your arrival and departure according to the free shuttle service, as there are only a couple times per day when it is available AND you must notify the staff that you require the service ahead of time. The traditional room in which we stayed provided floor futons. Perhaps we are spoiled by our mattresses at home, but my back was wrecked in the mornings. Luckily there was an onsen to soak the pain away 😅

Very comfortable individual room with everything you need. The shared showers worked great and were very clean. The common area is amazing - very calm, comfortable and peaceful.

The onsen area was probably clean but didn’t give me the same great impression as others I had been to. The water didn’t seem to be at the usual onsen temperature either.

Our traditional room in this modern ryokan was absolutely gorgeous! We were in awe of just how stunning the room was. The staff was so kind. We were completely blown away by dinner and breakfast! Dinner was make your own sushi followed by make your own japanese sweets. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast with local fish, hot pot, rice, sides, and an egg. It was all so amazing! The public bath on site was really nice with large glass windows to view the mountains. We were definitely thankful for the included taxi ride in the morning back to the train station. They have vending machines, a small game area, books, and plenty of space to relax. Stock up on any additional snacks you might want beforehand.

Difficult to access if you don't take a taxi, their shuttle that operates only twice in the afternoon, or drive yourself. It's a very steep 10-15 minute walk from the bus stop. We got very lucky that a couple of locals noticed us struggling and offered to drive us up at the halfway point. Mats were a bit thin compared to others we've slept on in Japan. Wifi was spotty. Yukata was extra charge.

the lounge area was cozy, with plenty of interesting books to pick. the food was pretty great, staff really kind and helpful.

the path to arrive was way more steep than anticipated. i stayed at the bunk beds, the room was nice but because I´m very special about my sleep, i couldn´t properly rest because of the light

This is a calming and pleasant escape, very good for a budget escape from Tokyo or any city. I booked a capsule unit so I didn't expect much, but the bed was comfy and wide, and the electric plugs in the unit, very welcome. I also liked the yukata provided, and the public baths were of course, a huge bonus - perfect for relaxing. The wide common places to sit and have coffee while reading books were also great. I can see a group retreat working here as well, though a solo one is great. Teleworking from here would also be a nice change and break from the usual; loved the provided shared equipment (mouse, lamps, laptop stands, etc.) and wi-fi routers on every floor.

Google Maps should be corrected to show a better path going up to the hotel, but I appreciate the effort staff did to explain the better way up (via YouTube). I think an English version would help (right now the video is only in Japanese). Also, "Fujikibashi Station" as recommended by the YouTube video, doesn't exist on that bus line anymore. Please check - the only station closest is "Onsenba-Chuo Station" (温泉場中央).
