We had a family room with river view and we enjoyes our stay very much. The location is a short 10min walk from the train station. And the river next to the hotel was beautiful with bamboo lamps at night and a nice walkway on the other side. The staff was very friendly, we got a tour around the inn at the beginning and some explanation. There where also flyers in our room with instructions for how to ware the yukata and how to set up the futon. The public bath was very nice and clean. The water temperature was also just right in my opinion. There are also 2 privat Onsen for 2 people max. You can use them also for free, you only need to look if the are occupied or not, remember to always keep the fan on and the doors closed when you leave the private Onsen ;) like the Instruktionen say. Thank you for the stay
Since it is and old building (in good condition and nicely renovated) the walls are thin and the floors squeek, you will hear other customers. This it not really a negative point but a fair warning for sensitive people, we had no problem sleeping. They provide earplugs for free in the room if needed.

Best place we've stayed in Japan, loved all 5 days we stayed. The Onsen is wonderful and so easy to use since it's open all day/night except 10am-3pm (I think). Amazing old and very well maintained building, we loved lounging by the river in the common area. Kitchen was also great, and other guests as well as staff were so friendly.
I'd upgrade to a riverfront room next time they look delightful ! but my basic room was economical and we spent most of our time in the common room anyways.

Lovely traditional room overlooking the river. I loved sitting in the sun room with a book. Well equipped kitchen and spacious communal spaces. The staff were fantastic. My daughter got sick and they accompanied us to the doctor to translate. Both private and communal onsen are clean and enjoyable.

Really beautiful hostel, we had a private river view room and it was fantastic. Futons were comfortable and we had a private sink and fridge. The area is lovely and easy to walk from the station. The onsen was fantastic, very spacious and clean, we wish we’d stayed longer.

As you can see from my responses, this was magic. Loved it. The view from our terrace was tranquil and cool. The lights on the path opposite made the night sight wonderful too. The onsen was clean and elegant.
Can’t think of anything.

Very typical and cosy Riokan, exceptionally well maintained structure with very kind and helpful staff. You can either overnight in the dorms or in private rooms. Public and private Onsen available.

Stunning property. We we’re upgrade to a river view room with no charge and it was amazing. Beautiful wooden interior with lovely communal areas.
There is only one private shower and onsen and a public one. Which given the places age is understandable it just means waiting a while for the private one or being brave.

Everything!!! The building is a well-maintained historical building. The public onsen and private onsens are beautiful, clean, and just the right temperature. The room I stayed in had tatami mats and a futon, I was surprised at how comfortable the futon was. My room had a beautiful view of the Matsukawa river, I spent a lot of time sitting on the porch. The kitchen was small but very functional, I was able to cook all my own food there, and the rice cooker is particularly great. The best part is the staff, they’re super friendly and helpful. The hostel has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I want to come back when I visit Japan next with a group of friends.
Nothing!!

Where do I start!! This is such a great place to stay. I stayed for 5 nights and received a free laundry ticket. All the staffs speak English very well. The building itself is historic and well maintained. I only had a look at the public bath. It’s a decent size and only closed for cleaning for a couple hours a day. So you can use it almost anytime you want. There’re also 2 private onsen baths. You can use it at anytime, no reservation needed. Everywhere is clean and tidy. The river view from my room was incredible. Great to just chill and have a cup of tea. My single room was enough for 1-2 people. Internet connection was stable. It’s about 10-15 min walk to the train station. 3 min away from the nearest bus stop. There’s a big supermarket near the station. Many restaurants along the way to the station. I would love to spend more time here!!!
Front desk only open 8-21. So many stairs to climb after a long day 😂 but it’s worth for the view. It’s very cold when I went. The room doesn’t keep the heater well. The walls are a bit thin. I could hear people on the same floor talking. Some amenities are not provided.

The entire property was beautiful, filled with history and artifacts and artworks. We spent quite sometime exploring up and down the stairs and the rooms just admiring the architecture. This is definitely one of our most favourite stays in Japan. If you want a real Ryokan experience then look no further. The facilities were so well maintained and clean, from the kitchen, to the tatami dining area, to the onsen. There is a large public onsen downstairs and smaller private onsen available on some floors. Our room overlooked the river and was beautiful. Everyone was really friendly and you make friends very quickly. The staff were very knowledgeable and super helpful and can speak perfect English. Again, this is not a modern venue, but older and very charming. I felt like we stepped back in time and was transported to a beautiful era of Japan. Well worth a visit.
Nothing.
