The suite we had was luxuriously spacious and had an onsen bath in our bathroom. The room overlooks the beautiful river and gorge. Because we are a family of 4, they set up 2 futons in the tatami mat area, which can be enclosed by shoji screens or left open. The hot water was the most instant I’ve ever experienced in my life. The ryokan provides lots of amenities and if we wanted more, there was a cart in the lobby where we could have helped ourselves. The ryokan has a private outdoor onsen too, which you can book, but we were happy with our in-room one, so did not use it. The ryokan has danjo, senbei and matcha tea making stations open in the afternoon, as well as a snack cart that is popular with the kids. I read reviews where guests complained of stink bugs. The weather was cold, so we kept our room windows shut and there was only one stink bug that appeared in our room on Day 2. I called the front desk and a staff member arrived in under a minute to whisk the insect away.

The ryokan provides kaiseki dinner and breakfast, which lean heavily towards seafood, as this area is known for its seafood produce. Despite the multiple courses, the meal is very efficient, so you won’t be bored. The meal is already set at your table when you get there and they have a couple of little ‘stoves’ that heat your food up for you. I would have liked our dinner from the first to the second night to be more different, but the breakfasts were different.

This place was a big surprise almost at the end of our trip: you enter the lobby and some (paper) cherry blossoms fall down ... The very nice room had a view towards the river. The lobby has many features from sweets, to rice cakes, plenty of choices for a yukata (yes, big sizes, too!) and soft ice at night. The private baths are nice and need a prebooking upon arrival for the afternoon and evening. Should have stayed more than one night ...

The buffet for breakfast was organized in an area which gets easily crowded and some things were hard to understand how they work, also for Japanese guests. Unfortunately no coffee :-(.

Luxury boutique hotel with spacious traditional Japanese style rooms with a wonderful view overlooking the river, all the amenities necessary. It's about 30 minutes from Kagaonsen shinkansen station, the hotel provides a free shuttle service. You are welcomed with a shower of paper cherry tree petals and there are free snacks and bathroom amenities in the lobby. The private outdoor onsen baths are really pleasant and can also be used without a reservation late at night or early in the morning. The staff was kind and warm and the activities are various: you can prepare your own matcha and cook dango and rice cakes. A free drink and snacks are graciously offered in the evening. I didn't have dinner nor breakfast at the hotel, I walked to the closest konbini, which took 20-25 minutes back and forth.

Everything is perfect, but I don't think it's worth staying for long for its seems there is not much to do around.

We had a suite with the private onsen which was fantastic. So peaceful, relaxing and romantic. It was expensive at nearly 70,000 yen (approx $700 AUD) per night and we stayed two nights, but the experience was totally worth it. If you can, definitely get this room. The little town of Yamanakaonsen is only about a 15 minute walk and has a convenience store and other gift shops. We found a lovely spot down by the river. The staff were all excellent, as I have found in all Japanese hotels, but I want to make a special mention about a young Indonesian lady (Sushi) who waited on our table. She explained the extensive menu in Japanese to my Japanese wife and again in English to me. Her bubbly personality was a delight. The food was outstanding, top quality and plentiful. Overall one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. The onsen in your room overlooking the river and forest was just perfect.

We had a mix up with our booking which wasted a bit of time at check in, but the staff handled it professionally. The outside of the building is in need of repair in some places.

We loved the simple luxury of Ohanami Kyubei — our room was elegant and comfortable and we enjoyed sleeping on the futons and sitting out on the balcony. We also appreciated the multiple onsen options, especially the private outdoor baths with views of the gorge and of the sky. All of the staff were exceptionally gracious and helpful and we felt very welcome. The breakfasts and dinners included were delicious and extravagant and varied with each meal. We also liked how easy it was to visit other places in the area through Canbus and through the hotel’s free shuttle to Kagaonsen station. We would love to return, and would highly recommend staying at Ohanami Kyubei for a restorative and romantic vacation.

The private baths were wonderful and can be booked between 15:00 and 22:00. As well as the public baths and the activities proposed. A great dinner and a good breakfast can be booked too (which we paid separately), and they offer a navette from and to the shinkansen station. The staff was kind and warm and the activities proposed and the amenities were very nice.

The structure is very well maintained but signs of age can be spotted. They do not ruin the experience anyhow.

The room, the setting were great and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious.

It is a short walk to the town and start of the gorge trail. One of the rooms had a noisy fridge which we unplugged. The wash basin was not user friendly and drained very slowly

We enjoyed the onsen experience. The staff were friendly and advising us how to do everything.

We didn't get there til after 5pm and the senbei making stations were closing but they were keen for us to try so we felt a bit pushed into trying when we hadn't even got our luggage in from the car yet. They were very friendly and probably thought we were odd as we didn't know what to do.

Loved the private bath, large room, the dinner and breakfast. Beautiful walk along the gorge. Had a wonderful break here.

Would like to have been able to be picked up by shuttle bus earlier in the day (say 10 am) as we were travelling from Kanazawa- only 30 minutes away. We would have liked to leave our luggage and walk the gorge and the town before checking in at 3pm (say).

Since not so many guests during weekdays I could enjoy a "roten-buro" (outdoor bath-tub) out of three for 40 min alone. Also it's located upstream of the river almost at the end of the row of onsen ryokans, which is quieter and surrounded by nature.

Yamanaka onsen had been in down turn a while so they couldn't spend enough month to maintain the hotel in the excellent condition especially outside of the building. Once a stream of guests comes back after the pandemic I hope they would clean up outside of "roten-buros" cutting down weeds and low bush.
