The service was very friendly, they can speak some English as well :) The view on the ocean with Mt. Fuji in the distance was just amazing (but we were told that it is rare to see the mountain from here). Dinner was brought in our room and we got an explanation for the food, it tasted delicious. Breakfast is in the Hotels restaurant. I was a little sceptical because of some of the other reviews but was pleasantly surprised, the Ryokan is really a very high quality hotel. The roman and cave onsen are nice, they switch times for women/men. The location is great, you need to bring your luggage some meters through a crowded street but afterwards you are just some minutes from the main attractions of the island. Thus we went up the hill in daylight and in the evening again to see the lights from the Sea Candle. Highly recommend, would come again!

My wife and I stayed at Iwamotoro for 6 nights and the experience is something we will cherish dearly. What we loved about Iwamotoro is not simply it’s long and interesting history, not the fact that it inspired a famous kabuki play, but the friendliness of the staff and how they would go out of their way to help us, making us feel at home. Sitting on the coast of Enoshima, simply by looking out of the window from the ryokan, one would see the scene from famous ukiyo-e picture of Mt. Fuji. The traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner provided were also very delicious, well-priced and professionally served. Along with a comforting bath at the onsen, one would receive an experience of a noble during the Kamakura period. The room is cleaned whenever requested, and the bedrolls and tables were laid out for us everyday in a timely manner. The swimming pool was also fully utilized and clean. I have read previous comments about the island being inconvenient because it was inaccessible after ten. That is untrue. Although bus service stops at around 10:20, taxi is able to go on the island. One can also walk freely across the bridge at anytime of the day on and off of the island.
At first we didn’t know we were suppose to leave the room key at the front desk before leaving. This resulted in us waiting for quite some time for someone to open the door when we arrived late at night (around 11pm). However the next day we were informed of this before we left. Coincidentally, we were unfortunately stranded on the JR due to loss of power for 3 hours, and had to be evacuated and walk on foot to the station. When we managed to get back to Iwamotoro, it was already 1:30am, yet we found the staff still waiting for us with our key in hand. After this ordeal, we were cured with a late night/early morning onsen bath.

The staff were very kind and helpful, and helped me find a large size yukata when they realized I was a tall guy. The two bath experiences were both very interesting and felt a bit haunted in a good way. From the location you have great access to all of the sights of Enoshima island.
The breakfast was a traditional style, which I imagine some people would really enjoy, but for us there were many components of the dishes that were definitely acquired taste. I recommend looking ahead to what the breakfast looks like to see if it’s for you.

Our recent visit to this coastal Enoshima Ryokan was simply enchanting. The staff's warmth and efficiency set the tone for a delightful experience. The ocean view from our room was breathtaking, adding a serene touch to our stay. Notably, the Ryokan graciously accommodated our request for vegan dining options. The culinary team impressed us with their flavorful creations, offering a diverse and satisfying array of dishes. They even made for us a vegan burger with beans, just amazing. The onsen was also very particular, Roman bath and cave bath. We will come back again the next time we'll pass from Enoshima

Beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from our room, and wonderfully spacious tatami room. The hot springs was great too! They were very sweet by providing assistance whenever we asked so I definitely recommend if you want to be right at the center of Enoshima’s activities.
It’s definitely not easily accessible during the day with a taxi, which is not obvious via the map. I would have liked a note saying that it was directly on the famous street and that transportation there during midday hours is unrecommended.

The staff was excellent and super kind. We know a little Japanese we learned in high school and when we tried talking to them in Japanese (we didn't do such a good job, but we tried haha), they were very patient and friendly. They took their time to explain different services as well. We're still getting used to the trash situation in Japan, so we were a uncertain about what to do with the plastic bottles and snack trash we had in the room, but we figured it out. It was our first onsen experience and the pictograms with translations helped out a lot. The breakfast was also very good and exceeded our expectations. Overall, it was an amazing stay at an excellent price and really let us explore Enoshima Island in a way we wouldn't have thought possible

This place was really an exceptional experience. The Japanese style room is really spacious and clean, the futon bed is made for you every day and it had a great view of Mount Fuji. Staff is extremely helpful and the breakfast is a real positive experience. The two onsen are beautifully decorated. The staff was happy to read my allergy card and adapt the breakfast menu to gluten free.
The reception closes at 9 pm so make sure to speak to them if you are going out at night. Security staff is available to let you in after 9.

Fantastic place if you want to experience traditional Japanese ryokan, a bit vintage, but this just adds to the place’s particular atmosphere. The location is amazing - you get to experience Enoshima after the tourist crowds have left. The view of Fuji-San from your room against setting sun was a cherry on the cake! Impeccable service and we also enjoyed the big outside pool very much - even more so as we visited during summer heatwave…

Very nice traditional Japanese-style hotel. In general, the room is quite big and clean. Good location on Enoshima island and it has an unusual cave bath and roman style bath, also there is a public outside swimming pool (but not so clean). The staff is polite and English speaking (but sometimes not too well). Japanese-style breakfast (but it's quite specific so you might not like it). We also had a nice view to the sea from our room.
It's quite an old building so sometimes you feel like everything is used for a long time, and you can find some dirty spots on surfaces. No shampoo/shower gel in the room.

Great location Perhaps seen better days but this didn’t distract from its charm Staff were very helpful
The Onsens had male and female timetables alternating between the 2 different onsens The onsens have also seen better days We had breakfast included which was full scale Japanese breakfast, There are plenty of options for breakfast nearby so it may be worth considering what you want to eat before booking
