Loved our stay at Active Life. Lisa, Stuart & all the team were fantastic & very welcoming. The hotel is in a prime location with a short walk to the ski slopes & has many great restaurants closeby. The onsite restaurant has lovely meals with daily specials, so we choose to dine in most nights. There is a bar for drinks, a game's room with a pool table & table tennis plus an onsite hot spa. Breakfast was buffet style with daily specials of hot meals made to order, eg, eggs, pancakes, french toast, etc. Rooms are warm, comfy & clean . Beds were heaven. Thanks again, Lisa, for making our stay so special . We will be back & recommending Active Life Madarao to all ⛷️❄️☃️

Was perfect for our group of 5 families with kids! The spacious common areas, allowed adults to mingle at the bar, while kids played nearby in a kids chill-out space or down in the pool table / foosball room. The staff are next level helpful and also very relaxed about kids being kids, making the stay stress free. The onsen-like indoor/outdoor hot tub was well enjoyed, it’s a bathers on situation, as males and females use together. Warm up with a soak, then do a snow angel… repeat. Short walk to the slopes. Skied many mountains in Japan, Madarao/Tangram is the new favourite. Easy to get around with something you offer everyone.

I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Lisa and Stewart for their exceptional customer service during our time at Stay Active. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, they went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Their willingness to assist with the installation of tire chains and in finding a VERY convenient parking space truly exceeded our expectations. Moreover, Eric and Vanessa also contributed to making our stay exceptional through their attentive service and unwavering dedication. Despite many centimeters of powdery snowfall, Eric kept access to the hotel clear, which made getting around on foot no problem. Vanessa consistently provided us with delicious food and beverage recommendations, ensuring that we had a delightful culinary experience throughout our stay. Getting a reservation at nearby restaurants was more difficult than during the height of Covid travel restrictions in past years when most of the area restaurants were empty. That said, Vanessa made sure we got a seat at every restaurant we wanted to try in the area. The level of service we received from the hotel staff was nothing short of exceptional. They are the epitome of hospitality, and their genuine care for customers shines through in every interaction. Thank you for going above and beyond to make our stay a truly remarkable experience.

The walk to the lift (3 to 5 minutes) is on a bit of a slope, but totally manageable.

Our recent stay at Active Life Madarao was the absolute highlight of our snow trips this season. What truly sets Active Life Madarao apart is its warm and welcoming atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the staff, especially the managers Lisa and Stuart, went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment throughout our stay. When they noticed that it was getting later in the evening and we hadn’t checked in, they initiated communication and even waited for us to arrive after hours to ensure we got settled in comfortably, understanding the challenges of a 4+ hour drive with kids. As a family accustomed to the spaciousness of most U.S. accommodations, the room was HUGE and provided us with more than enough space for a family of five to unwind and relax without being on top of each other, which is RARE in Japan. Breakfast was delicious, and our kids looked forward to the pancakes each morning. There is a small bar and an activities area for the kids. Location-wise, Active Life Madarao couldn't have been more convenient. Situated just across the street from the lifts, it made our days a breeze. We definitely were able to maximize our time on the mountain, even with bringing the toddler back to the room for a break. There are plenty of food options in the area, and the staff made great recommendations. Our experience at Active Life Madarao exceeded all expectations, offering the perfect mix of comfort, convenience, and hospitality. For families seeking a comfortable snow trip in Japan, we wholeheartedly recommend Active Life Madarao as the perfect accommodation for family fun and relaxation.

The location is amazing- metres from the Madarao slopes, easy access to other ski resorts. Lisa and her team are amazing, going above and beyond for guests. They are responsive, full of useful information and make the hotel feel as homely as possible. Good simple breakfast with hot and cold choices. We booked 2x Deluxe Room with private bathroom. Each one had plenty of room for 2 adults. Simple bathroom and slightly small toilet cubicle but functional and very clean. The beds were comfortable and there’s ample wardrobe space for winter gear. Active Life Madarao had a typical older ski lodge feel with some furniture updated. Not fancy but clean, comfortable, convenient with onsite gear hire and close proximity to food choices in the village. However, the friendly team and their helpfulness is what made the experience wonderful.

A kettle and two small teacups were provided in the room. It would be good to have a basic set of crockery and cutlery (larger mugs, small plates) etc to allow simple self-catered meals in room when guests prefer.

“Onsen” requires bathing suits (which we don’t take on ski trips usually). There is regular Onsen at the hotel nearby however.

A group of us stayed at Active Life for 10 days and had an amazing time. Lisa, Stuart and the staff were fantastic and very helpful. The rooms were comfortable, breakfast was delicious and the onsen in the afternoons is exactly what the body needed after being on the slopes all day. Location wise it is a short walk (few minutes) to the slopes and there are restaraunts and a small shop nearby. There is also a ski shop and rental gear on site and 3 of us in the party organised all of our ski gear through the shop (better prices than other vendors). I highly recommend Active Life and hopefully we will be back next season.

The managers (Lisa and Stuart) were extremely welcoming and accommodating. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and help with our plans, which made it felt more like a B&B than a hotel. Active Life is in a great location close to the mountain. The room was a good size and there were plenty of communal spaces to hang out. We’d definitely stay at Active Life again for future trips to Madarao!

Exceptional staff. Lisa and her team always went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. The accessibility to the ski field, restaurants and rental hire are all just a short walk. Beautiful hot breakfast each morning. Delicious dinner if you choose to dine in. Comfortable beds. Bonus was the fabulous onsen downstairs which was very welcome after a day of skiing. Highly recommend staying here.

This is our second winter stay at Active Life, Madarao. The managers (Lisa and Stuart) and the rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly. We really liked the small onsen with outdoor view. Excellent location only a few minutes walk from the slopes and restaurants. The hotel bar and restaurant is great if you don't want to venture outside. Highly recommend!
