The hotel is in a fantastic location, very close to the slopes, making it extremely convenient for skiing. It’s also just a short walk to the main street, where all the restaurants and bars are located. Additionally, it’s very easy to reach from the train station, and I really appreciated the owner’s support with transportation arrangements. This was a family trip for us, and they were incredibly accommodating of the fact that we had a little kid. The warmth with which they welcomed us and the baby was truly exceptional—something we haven’t experienced elsewhere. I really, really appreciated the support and care they provided from this perspective, which made our stay even more special. A wonderful place for a family getaway!

We had a wonderful stay here. We could walk out onto Akankura Onsen ski mountain and everything was very close within walking distance. We did not have a car so we did a short walk or took the town shuttle bus. The onsen at the property was amazing after a day of snowboarding. The room was very big and spacious traditional Japanese style room. It is a family run hotel Daiske San and his family were very nice and accomodating. We would definately recommend staying here and would stay here again.

There was nothing we didnt like.

The hotel may not be a new building, but it is very cozy and welcoming. For skiing & snowboarding, there is a dedicated dry room and a storage room for equipment, conveniently located right next to the hot spring bath, which is the perfect setup for relieving fatigue after snow. Both breakfast and dinner are excellent, with high-quality food. The hotel seems to be family-run, and all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, providing me with a very comfortable stay.

The whole stay was amazing! Daisuke, the owner, picked us up from Myoko-kogen station and took us back when we left. The hotel is small and family-run with very friendly staff. The room was nice and comfortable. The buffet breakfast has many options, mainly Japanese but you can find Western options as well. Being a vegetarian I found multiple options to choose from. There's also an Onsen on the lower level where you can warm up after a cold day on the slopes. The best part is how close it is to Akakura-Onsen's chairlift and just a block from the town's centre which has a lovely old Japanese style. We would definitely choose Akakura Wakui if we come back.

The host Daisuke and his wife Mari have done their best to make us feel like we are home. The room was clean and had everything we need. The onsen was not crowded and was comfortable. We were provided with discount vouchers for the nearby ski lifts. Daisuke was kind enough to welcome us at the Myoko train station and bring us to our next hotel location. The hotel is located right next to the Akakura Onsen ski resort. The Akakura Kankan is about 5 min away and but there is a free shuttle bus and the closest bus stop is in less than 10 walk, which is quite convenient for us to to get to the other resorts. Overall, our stay was comfortable and we would love to come back here.

Location to the ski lift was perfect - literally ski on and ski out. Our room had private shower and loo which was great and the view was superb. The size of the room for the 3 of us was good - had a separate seating area. The staff were amazing and so helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

Needs a little work done on it to freshen it up and would have liked more western options for breakfast. We couldn’t get any wifi in our room.

Location was perfect, just outside one of the Akakura Onsen chairlift. View was great (we got the mountain view), onsen availability was helpful in soothing our tired muscles. Emergency food (shops/restaurants open late and close early) was variable and vending machines available. The one time we got breakfast (on the last morning) was fantastic, great spread and a variety of food, and a mix of wester and japanese cuisine. I love the no-shoes policy, keeps it cleaner than most places, and the owner, Daisuke, is such a lovely man, does not have perfect English but can easily converse (which is not common with the Japanese people). He was always helpful and willing to do anything we asked. They also provided a shuttle to and from the hotel, which was great!

It was cold in our room, even with one heater, and with a bed right next to the window, you could still feel the draft. But easily fixed as Daisuke provided a portable heater which made it more comfortable. The WiFi kept dropping in and out, and that may be due to the number of people on it at the same time. I just stuck with my data sim card. The WiFi improved when most of the rooms around us were emptied.

Daisuke san was amazing and would have picked us up from the station but we didn’t need to as we were already in town. We planned to leave our luggage at reception and ski Akakura onsen before checkin but when we got there in the morning our room was already ready!😍 The room was lovely traditional Japanese style. There was an entranceway with another western style single bed and our own bathroom (with bath) and then sliding doors into the sitting and main bedroom tatami area. There was a lounge area downstairs in lobby with a tv and lollies. There was also a microwave and vending machines and a little shop. The dry room downstairs was large and had locks for skis and boots. Another mini dry room for coats and jackets. One morning I came down to ask about bus times and Daisuke san offered to drive me to the slopes and even gave me a discount voucher. He had lots of other discount tickets for lifts passes too. He also drove us to the train station when we left. There is yukata to wear down to the onsen and tea set in your room and a fridge. There is an arrangement of paintings downstairs. Daisuke called and made some reservations for us for dinner at a couple of places. It is a short walk to akakura onsen Panorama lift and into the centre of town. There are a couple of convenience stores/shops just a few doors down. You will get a map of the area with shops and restaurants marked at checkin.

The heater was making some noise and not warming enough when we first arrived. We adjusted the fan and cleaned the air filter and the noise stopped and it heated better. The dry room didn’t dry our boots very well so they were still a bit sweaty in the morning. The onsen was a bit dirty or mouldy. It could have done with a big scrub down. I guess it’s hard when it’s in the basement level and so busy in peak season to find the time. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as other onsens I’ve been to because of that, even though it was actually bigger and more spacious with two pools. Only one futon was set up when we arrived but was all good as it only took a minute to set up the other one.

The owner is friendly & nice. He might give u a serious look/impressive and quick Q & A talk every time. But notice he is actually a jovial person after had a few short chat with him during the stay. The lady staff at the reception counter is very helpful, can see she is practising her english well with us. The senior lady staffs at the breakfast room are attentive and nice. Like that i can parked my rental car. The simple jap & western breakfast are enough to fill our stomach till lunch.

The onsen is at the basement. Is the classic type which i like it, but it would be nicer if the faucet area can be cleaned or changed as it was covered with green mouldy or dirt. 😝

Unbeatable hospitality. Daisuke and his family are wonderful. They helped us make meal and transportation reservations, among other above and beyond things. I've stayed around Akakura Onsen over many years, and I'm certain THIS is where I will stay going forward. The room we had was huge. We had 3, but could've easily fit another. The Onsen is crazy hot! Loved it.

No complaints at all.
