Very nice staff although only a few spoke basic english (understandable in Japan but as more and more western guests start going to Otaru it would be good if they were able to increase their service in english). Breakfast selection was VERY good, and the restaurant staff were super friendly and polite (as were most Japanese people we interacted with). Onsen was very good. Excellent location across from the train station, and easy walking distance to all kinds of very cool little restaurants and the historical district.

Really didn't like the annoying TV screen & talk show silliness in the sauna (why would they do that, while also encouraging guests to relax and meditate while in the onsen??). Also, the hotel really needs a refreshing upgrade, the hallway carpets have lots of stains, the walls have dents and many corners & doorframes are showing years of wear & tear.

Located directly opposite (approximately 300ft) from Otaru train station and adjacent (approximately 50ft) to Don Quijote. Breakfast is fantastic (First Class- in fact, better than a lot of other 4 or 5 stars hotel that I have stayed). Free flow ramen on the house every evening (2130 - 2330 hours). Facilities & Value Added Services are REALLY GOOD! Onsen - very clean and well maintained.

Location may be a bit out of the way if your main intention is to visit Sapporo. Hourly train available from Sapporo to Otaru and vise-versa @ ¥750 per passenger per journey but staying at Dormy Inn is well worth the ¥1,500 per person that I have spent going from Otaru to Sapporo and back everyday with my family while we were there.

The views..... On the right was the Otaru Station and Bus Terminal. On the left was a view of the sea. And all around the background, all i see was the mountains. On a clear day, just looking out the bedroom window, the view was breathtaking. How i wish we had stayed just a little bit longer. Otaru in itself is beautiful. After a long day, a trip to the in-house onsen was perfect. I feel that the hotel sets itself apart from others with thoughtful gestures. We came early as with Otaru, everything shuts early by 5pm during winter. We were welcomed with a smile and were offered to keep our baggages before the 3pm check-in. Later while registering, our family made ourselves comfortable on the sofa with a cup of coffee available on the house from the coffee machine at the reception lobby. In the lift on our way up, there is even a built-in corner seat for those in need. Something i have never seen before. Our room was beautifully furnished ala the ole-skool Japanese decor. It really created a nice ambience. We simply loved it! There was complimentary water bottles and...get this...cool jellies in the fridge. That night, when we went to the onsen, there was complimentary ice cream and even instant ramen for late night indulgence! We truly enjoyed our stay at the Dormy Inn. We would definitively come back again on our next trip to Otaru.

Just one thing. Maybe a halal ramen for Muslim families like us, so that we too could enjoy these indulgences...

I like the following: - Free noodles from 9:30pm-11:00pm - Free pineapple and orange slices in room - Large public bath and free manga to read - Breakfast seafood bowl (salmon roe, salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, shrimp tempura, etc.) - Free popsicle and yogurt drink after hot spring bath - Convenience stores nearby, restaurants, tourist attractions

The property is a little old, but very clean.

I do love the onsen that they have in the hotel. It looks serene and glade they open it at night. It was great to have a night bath. The room is clean and also amenities inside is good. I like their strategic location which is located near the train station and also the heart of the town. It is convenient to walk around and go back to have a rest once we are tired.

I did ask them to place us together with my other friend. However i did ask them as additional request if they can provide me with 2 single bed. They didn't reply the message and also didn't tell me yes or no. When i reached there, i found out that it was a queen size bed. I have to go down to request for a change of room so i can get another room with 2 single bed. I do wish they reply earlier instead of surprising me.

This is one of the best location you can get for a hotel in Otaru. Just across the street from JR train station / bus terminal / taxi station. Close to all the key attractions in the area. Plus they also have an elevated parking garage that you can park your car securely overnight, etc. (pay parking) Excellent facilities with in house natural hot spring well done Public bath with indoor and outdoor onsen and a sauna plus cold water bath that is comparable to some onsen hotels. Onsen alone is worth the money.

We like everything they have offered including the extra features like free popsicle and ice cream and snacks outside the hot spring bath. Plus late evening half ramen noodles for free. These extra free items made you feel welcome and promoted gathering at their public places.

I like the onsen, access to the train station and there are free noodles and icecream in the evening.

I didn't like that I was searching for over 30minutes and had to ask a staff to find a way to turn off the lights in the room. I used a coupon for free sashimi at the restaurant next door but it wasn't that good. I didn't notice the hotel had free noodles and would have preferred that, but it wasn't explained to me at check-in so I missed the opportunity.

The location was perfect especially because it was snowy and we didn't want to travel far from the train station with our luggage. The onsen was spectacular. The rooms were set up in such an efficient way. For a small room, the setup was great.

It would have been nice if our whole family could stay in 1 room instead of two. It also would have been nice if there were breakfast options other than a buffet. But neither of these things were deal breakers. We were comfortable splitting up into 2 rooms, and there were plenty of places to eat near the hotel. We ate at a donut shop a few steps away and it was really cool.

Super value for money. Situated right opposite to the Otaru Station exit. Three minutes' walk across the road. It's within walking distance to the famous scenic canal with lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. The seafood market next the station offered good values seafood like king crabs and seafood bowl rice. The twin room we had was a free upgrade. With the close proximity to the railway, we heard no noise of the traffic. Sound proof. Besides, it's neat and clean. The beds were hard and supportive. The pillows were comfy just right for a good night sleep. The breakfast was worth mentioning. All-you-can-eat style with salmon roes, sashimi, salad, fresh carrot smoothie and many more Japanese food items available. All fresh and tasty. Highly recommended.

Good location right across from the station. The sento is really nice! It is also nice there is a taxi pick up right next to the hotel so you do not even have to walk to the nearby Otaru Station to get a taxi if you need it.

Old and not as clean as many other hotels but it honestly isn’t that bad as many other reviews make it. The main gripe is that it is small so its hard to open two large luggages.
