The food is very good.

As the booking.com info on this hotel has noted, it’s a bijou 2 story hotel, with around 6 upstairs rooms, set back from the road in 2 or so acres of immaculately maintained gardens, with a pool. Security is very good, with a long driveway, and electric fencing all around (to keep the guests in…joking). Staff are super attentive, and the food is very good. The entrance and foyer are impressive. It looks to be an old colonial style building, maybe 1940’s?, renovated with the addition of a breakfast lounge on the rear, split unit a/c’s and possibly other additions not so noticeable. But, that’s where the good stuff really ends. When you’ve been there a few days, the cracks start to appear. Remember, this is a bijou hotel, so there is nothing much to do there, it has a pool with the usual array of sun chairs, a sauna (didn’t visit), and……that’s about it. Also, unlike most other upscale hotels in this price range, (we paid close on to $1000 / day), there is no complimentary transport of any kind….ever. So, no airport pickups, delivery, or day visits to the few sites around (Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe centre etc). The hotel will arrange for a fee of course. The building is old, with paint peeling, woodwork in desperate need of a refresh, and overall in need of some serious TLC….it’s seen better days. The room we stayed in was the largest room, the “Malaika” room. The room is huge, in a studio apartment style, (the bed separated from the lounge by a permanent partition), is looking like it’s not seen attention since 1970. Don’t misunderstand, this is a big luxurious room, but both it, and the adjoining en-suite needs attention. The wooden boarded floors have shrunk with large gaps which creaks underfoot, the ceiling is boarded and painted white, and the bathroom (also huge with a corner bath) has loose floor tiles and a shower that leaks so badly it floods the bathroom floor.
