Nestled within the winding streets of Melaka, Baba House stands as a testament to the rich cultural tapestry that defines this UNESCO World Heritage city. Recently, I had the pleasure of immersing myself in the timeless charm of Baba House, an experience that seamlessly intertwined history, culture, and hospitality. Upon arrival, the grand façade of Baba House exudes an aura of nostalgia, transporting visitors to a bygone era of Peranakan splendour. Stepping through the entrance, I was enveloped in the warmth of traditional Peranakan hospitality, as the friendly staff greeted me with genuine smiles and a warm welcome. The interior of Baba House is a marvel to behold, meticulously restored to its former glory, yet tastefully adorned with modern comforts. Intricate Peranakan motifs adorn the walls, while antique furniture and artifacts offer a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Peranakan elite. Every corner of the house is steeped in history, inviting guests to embark on a journey through time. My accommodation at Baba House was nothing short of luxurious. The rooms, adorned with ornate wooden furniture and vibrant Peranakan textiles, exuded an air of elegance and refinement. Modern amenities such as air conditioning and high-speed internet seamlessly blended with the heritage ambiance, ensuring a comfortable stay without compromising on authenticity. Beyond its architectural grandeur and culinary delights, Baba House offers a myriad of experiences to enrich the soul. Guided tours provide insights into the rich history and heritage of the Peranakan community, while hands-on workshops

Brilliant location and beautiful historic setting. Just a block behind Jonker shopping street so you have easy access but none of the crowds. The accommodation is actually 8 adjoining historic Baba Nyonya heritage homes repurposed into a hotel. Always wonderful to see heritage buildings given a second lease of life. The hotel have kept much of the decor (e.g. water well, courtyard, sitting room etc) intact even going so far as to add plaque explaining the history and previous owner. Staying here is like visiting a time capsule but with modern amenities such as WiFi and air conditioning. Regarding facilities, the room is comfortable, spacious and well lit. WiFi signal is strong and room has a small fridge. There is a rooftop bar terrace that gets quite full in the evenings. Didn't eat at the restaurant but prices were fair. Plenty of eateries and shops downstairs regardless. Would recommend Jiuyi Kitchen which is a few doors down for their excellent Cendol and Nyonya curry. Finally, this location is also walking distance to A Formosa Fort but a better destination would be the Baba Nyonya museum also several doors down. Else staff is extremely friendly and helpful to recommend things to do or places to eat in historic Malacca.

Single use plastic bottles for bathroom amenities. The recycling bin in the room is a step forward but the single use plastic is 2 steps back. Finally the hallway lights are always running regardless of time of day. With so few floors and so many windows, the hallways are bright in daytime rendering the lighting an unnecessary waste. All knocks against the environment.

The design is beautiful: historical but contemporary and stylish. Beds and pillows were excellent. Had the buffet dinner which was exceptional in quality. The price I paid for, with the discount since my friend and I were staying in a room, made it cheap if compared to what we would have to pay for if we had eaten in a Peranakan restaurant elsewhere. What small number in facilities there was was made up for by the homey touches: movie nights, a library, antique items to take photos with, making this hotel unique in its offerings compared to other hotels elsewhere offering typical facilities. The staff were friendly and considerate. Very helpful too! Their warm relationship among themselves is infectious, carrying their happy attitude over to their customer service.

Haha... my room in the photo looks bigger than it is in reality. There is lack of space around the basin to place our own toiletries. It's fantastic to have friendly, helpful staff which clearly have great collegial relationship among themselves. But they could be more mindful to maintain a professional manner when hotel guests appear (e.g. instead of looking at the handphone).

Charming ambience and decor. The Western Restaurant was surprisingly very good. Excellent location.

(1) The bathroom door squeaks terribly. (2) For the price, the bed linens were visibly well worn and can find a few small black dots of stains caked into the sheets. (3) For our first night, there were little bugs on the bed which woke us with their itchy bites. We killed three on sight! Hotel Staff changed rooms for us immediately. Maybe its just that one bed, second room no such issue.

The location was great, just behind Chinatown and the Jonker Walk. The room was very big, clean and comfortable equipment with everything needed such as Shower Gel, Shampoo, Soap, Toothbrush etc. The facilities are very modern and well maintained. The rooftop and its pool was amazing!

It seemed as the ground floor was under construction work, so that the restaurant was closed. It would be helpful, if the opening times of the roof top bar would be published. Moreover, the drink at the bar was not really value for money. The room itself was very nice, only negative point was that you could hear everything from the corridor and the rooms nearby.

Location, design

Everything was great about the property, except there was a funny smell in the room. Smells like Sewarage. Also their website is misleading with the room types (ie it states that junior suites come with balconies, but there is only 1 such room. Descriptions have to be clearer in order not to mislead the customers.

Clean & roomy for three persons. Unlike some hotels, basic amenities already stoodby without the need to ask for missing stuff. Baba House has a nice, cosy & authentic setting. Staff were patient, friendly & helpful. Room service was prompt eg. when we asked for some ice, they were delivered shortly. In another instance, we were waiting for Grab. It rained & we asked a young male staff who was manning the reception alone to help to collect the umbrellas when the vehicle arrived. After we got into the car, he cheerfully collected them from & at the same time he gave direction to a stranger when being approached. He was able to multi-task & stay cool regardless of the rain. Very convenient to Jonkers walk & the shops.

Small place for breakfast. Cramp at food collection area. Have to wait for seats & distance between the tables quite close. Very noisy. Room rate high.

Our stay was absolutely delightful! The location was perfect, conveniently close to all major tourist attractions, making exploring effortless. The property was beautifully designed, blending aesthetics with comfort seamlessly. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating a home-away-from-home experience. The hospitality was outstanding—attentive and thoughtful in every detail. Everything we needed was readily available, ensuring a stress-free visit. This is the ideal spot for anyone looking for a relaxing yet centrally located retreat. Highly recommended for all travelers!

Nothing to dislike at all

Second time staying here. Can't think of a better place to stay. The hotel is located on what used to be Malaka's millionaire row. The original building is a Dutch building (like the others on the street) but was given a more fancy finish and looks like a piece of Wedgewood porcelain.) You can walk to the entire tourist area from here. Excellent service and really friendly staff. The building has a lift which makes it perfect for aged or people with mobility issues. The TV in the room allows you to access Netflix and Disney plus which is great if you have kids or just want to binge watch after a day of sightseeing. The bathrooms are so practically laid out and the water pressure is excellent. Looking forward to coming back..
