Well positioned for the town and plenty of public space inside. A very good breakfast with lovely staff in the breakfast room.
Rooms were very hot and little fan provided didn't really do much. The rooms were rather dark and electrics were dodgy with flickering lights and one day our lights popped a fuse and someone had to come and fix it. We also had some trouble with our entry card and the response at the desk was not as I would have expected but rather blaming us. A replacement card was eventually provided after some discussion. Unfortunately we stayed when there was a festival at the harbour so lots of outside noise until 2am. Under our window was the courtyard area and unfortunately smokers gathered there and the smoke came up into our room as the windows has to be open. Maybe a smoking area away from the rooms could be made?

We liked the room, it was very specious and clean. Actually the whole hotel is very nice, old but with a lot of history. Feels like a bit of labyrinth :). Everything was very clean and neatly put together. The breakfast was splendid. Staying here gives a bit of a "royaly" feeling. :) The location is great, near the city center, you have a lot of things to see and do around in a walking distance.
The gentleman at the checkin wasn't the most professional. He was staring at the computer, didn't even take the eyes off of it when I greeted him - twice. He was very cold and overoccupied. It felt like he really doesn't want to work there. All the other staff members were very professional and helpful. The bed was a bit too soft for my liking. During the night, the garden/terrace of the restaurant stayed opened and one "gentleman" decided to occupy it and talked (or rather screamed) on the phone for over an hour. It was around three in the morning when my husband lost his nerve and went to tell him to go away.

Very nice and "grande" hotel. Great location. Very nice rooms and comfortable bed. The breakfast was also fantastic. We sat outside and the servers actually came around and refilled coffee cups for the guests. We thought that was a nice touch.
There was no elevator in the hotel. We had a bit of luggage with us, and we needed to lug that up. We could manage, but others might find this impractical. It is understandable that they do not have an elevator, as the hotel is from 1690 and they have preserved the hotel as much as possible in original fashion. Also, parking was limited. The parking at hotel was NOK 150 for the night. There was a garage close by, but cost there was double. I would reccommend to book parking in advance at the hotel, if you are bringing a car.

This is a traditional hotel and is fighting hard to stay relevant in a world of customers that are probably content to have a different type of hotel experience. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, the furnishings plush and the showers were great. The buffet breakfast was magnificent.
Just small things which are probably not fixable in such an old building without costing too much money but if you've got into bed and realised that you've left the main light on, there is no switch by your bed, you have to get out of bed and go to the bedroom door to switch it off. Being British, I'm used to English Breakfast tea in the mornings. The only sachets the hotel seemed to have were Earl Grey and Lady Grey teabags which are quite niche for most British people but if you don't get many British travellers then it's not a problem.

The breakfast quality and choice were excellent. The hotel has a great location in the centre of town with easy access to shops, bars and restaurants. It is a short and easy walk to the train station and the fjord marina and ferry terminal.
The room was small and at ground level, it overlooked the car park and the back entrance to the reception and restaurant, so was very exposed. There were no net curtains to provide some privacy and the heavy drapes produced a black-out darkness which plunged day to night. The description of the room said tea and coffee making facilities. There were tea bags and instant coffee sachets, but no electric kettle to make hot water. I asked at reception how I got hot water and was given a flask with hot water and told to come back if I needed it refilled.

A lot of charm for this old building with history! A great out-door area to chill with a drink, or for lunch / dinner, a compact menu in the restaurant with some local dishes... The room was cosy, the bathroom large enough and well-fitted. Internet was functioning and stable. Staff was both helpful and very professional. All-in-all, everything was almost fine and perfect. A great note for the opulent breakfast buffet which was really, really good (the local bread is amazing!). Hotel Kong (Karl) is King !
This is a cute, yet old building: there is no air-conditioning in the rooms and those oriented to the South can get very hot during the day. Ok, you seldom need air-conditioning in Norway, true... But exceptions are always possible (it was quite hot during my stay in June, with outside temperature close to 28° C outside). Make use of the curtains to shield your window against sunrays and heat!

The location is perfect - near the railway station and very close to the centre of the town. The breakfast was excellent. The bed was very comfortable. Our room was looking to the backyard of the hotel and a parking, but despite this fact, it was very quiet in the night. The bathroom was big, pretty and very clean. The hotel itself is small, but nice and cosy
The view from the room was rather unpleasant, as the room was looking to the backyard of the hotel and a parking. There was some smell in the room, but luckily there was a fan and after using it everything became OK.

The rooms here are spacious and of a boutique-style done very tastefully. large bathrooms with nice rainfall shower in a glass door wet room style. the hotel rooms were quiet and the communal areas were very comfortable. The hotel restaurant is highly reputable in its own right and the food was excellent. Well above good hotel quality and more like a specialist restaurant! as a consequence, the morning breakfast was also absolutely excellent with a wide range of beautifully prepared breakfast items all of which you’d expect.
There was literally nothing I didn’t like!

If you are a person of nostalgia as I am, you will definitely love this hotel! All the decorations reflect the old time but at the same time you can enjoy modern comfortableness. The room was beautiful with big windows, and the breakfast was superb. The small town is surprisingly beautiful with a lot of interesting shops. Had we known that earlier, we might have stayed in the hotel for one more days. Very reasonably priced for both the room and dinner.
The parking space was small, and the gate was very narrow for driving in and out. However, you may park your car in nearby parking lot.

For the price it is a fantastic place to stay. The hotel has a lot of historic charm while also offering modern, renovated facilities. I have stayed here twice and my rooms have been very comfortable, particulary due to the heated floors in the bathrooms. Breakfast includes a nice selection of high quality dishes (including freshly cooked scrambled eggs) in a cozy and calm restaurant.
The sound isolation of my last room was average, meaning you could hear steps in the corridor. However, I am particularly sensitive to waking up to noise and I always wear ear plugs. With ear plugs, it was no problem.
