If you want to visit the 17th Century defences of Elvas and the matching Star Fort, this is the hotel to stay at. Right on the walls at the entrance into the old town. Old fashioned hotel in the good sense. Excellent and helpful staff. Note that car parking can be difficult in old Elvas so take that into account. Once you park, do not move until necessary. Elvas also still has a garrison of Portuguese military. Do visit the Military Museum, it is very interesting and you might see the horses that are still keep there.

The restaurant in the hotel had a limited menu. Bar was fine for drinks and snacks. This is an old building, I would guess late 18th century so the room organisation is unusual. Lovely room, but only a view into what might once have been a internal open patio. Play extra and get a room with an outside view, preferably out over the 17th walls

Friendly and helpful staff Great size room clean and fresh impressive location Bath towels, great quality Good breakfast choice Parking for motorbike within gated courtyard

Lift out of service Menu not available in English or any other language If staying in room above the arches - there is constant noise from cars etc driving through and sounds like thunder Dinner portions seemed on the small size The rice was clumpy and suggest that it was reheated, or left in a rice cooker

Staff was amazing at handling a situation in our room and were quick to transfer us to a better room with no additional costs and offered free breakfast for both days (we had a water puddle in our room). We understood the situation and we were ok with it but the staff went beyond to give us an amazing stay and make up for the incident (which wasn’t their fault at all). The pool was great, the building is very calming and has a very good ambient. The breakfast is impeccable with an amazing patio to enjoy the morning sun. I was impressed with the mattresses and how fresh the sheets and towels were! Probably one of the best places I’ve stayed!

I wish they had more options for dinning as they only serve toasts and sandwiches and they’re a little bit pricey! The reception does offer to make reservations in local restaurants for you to make up for this!

Fantastic, historical building. One can really feel the history in this, one time, convent and hospital within the wall of the 17th century fortifications. Room was huge with large opening windows. Staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Covid regulations were adhered to stringently. Free parking on site was great and drinks under the orange and lemon trees in the courtyard was fantastic. Has a rooftop swimming pool which, when open in season, would be a super place to relax. Easy walk into town and the local bars and eateries. Breakfast was good and the waitress friendly and attentive.

Not much really. Lighting in the room could be improved - two small bedside lights and a solitary downlighter in such a large room was a slight issue.

Location was excellent as we travelled to/from Elvas by bus. Hotel was very clean. Staff were very pleasant. Building is full of character & really interesting. Breakfast was excellent: varied, plentiful and very good quality. Overall, our stay was excellent value.

Nothing except that the interior double room took a little getting used to; it seemed dark, air circulation was not good and there was a strong smell of old wood - it was OK for a short stay.

Amazing place. Beautiful garden. Very good breakfast. Good to relax.

The ladies at the reception were unfriendly. It wouldn't hurt them to smile more often. They even denied my request for staying at the pool on the last day. I had to leave in the warmest hour of the day because of that. No hotel staff ever denied me that kind of request! I was totally surprised and did not appreciate that lack of sympathy and kindness at all. All other staff was very friendly and attentive, namely the ladies at breakfast, the cleaning ladies, and the gentleman at the reception.

Breakfast in the courtyard was very nice, the pool and area was very well kept, the staff were lovely and the hotel was in a fairly good state.

We live in Portugal and know that wasps are an everyday part of life but we feel that they could have been better controlled in the courtyard. Our bathroom tiling was extremely poorly finished with tiles being uneven, grout falling out of them and watter leaking through the gaps onto the plasterboard wall behind them.

nice breakfast with several choices of breads, fruits, cheese, meats, yougurt, fresh juices, eggs. Located in a place within the city walls making it reasonably easy to walk everywhere around the churches, castle, mercado etc. A short drive to the forts and a minute drive to the aqueduct. Only an hour to Merida Spain with it's roman ruins to explore. great price, loved the old furniture, the patio for eating breakfast was awesome too. so beautiful.

I had minor dust allergies in the room. The room did look very clean but probably just time to do a good once over cleaning the draperies etc. Internet sign was moderate to great for my work. Would like more plug ins to charge up phones, work equipment.

On arrival on our motorbikes we were hot and tired it was a very hot day. The reception staff were super nice and friendly they supplied us with a cool refreshing fruit drink which was really nice. We were told where we could park our motorbikes and they guided us in to the courtyard where our bikes were safe. The courtyard/garden was stunning with orange trees and statues with tables and chairs to relax and have a drink.

The staff upgraded our room free of charge, by their own initiative The room was super large The staff was very, very helpful and nice The breakfast is worth its money. Taking it to the garden is a luxury!!! The inner garden is delightful And also the pool location The hotel location is extremely good, close to the city center and several restaurants The hotel building is embedded into the city's walls, with a magnificent view over the valley and the monumental fortified walls Parking is just around the corner, with a dedicated entrance

The views from the windows were not so good as certainly are from other rooms over the valley, city or inner garden. But cannot complain, because our initial reservation was an inner room, without any view at all... The second floor has a very nice living room, with ample chairs, couch and tables. But a trio of tourists were there talking after 22:00, and we could hear them distinctively, even though our room was well 10 meter away The building is an historic one (a former convent), but needs some new improvements The pool was closed, but we new that in advance. With the increasingly high temperatures, the owners should consider opening earlier Tge parking gate communication with the reception didn't seem to work, but once again the staff helpfully solved the issue....
