Very calm colours therefore easy to relax

No coffee machine in room and only one bottle of water for whole stay would expect more for a 5 star hotel

Considering it is a 5 star hotel, it is great value for money and the stay and room was five stars all the way. The service and staff are beyond my expectations. I had just completed my 8 day solo walk around the island and asked if it was possible to have a quieter room away from the road (I booked a lateral sea view room with a balcony, which is also excellent itself). Carla at reception was very helpful and found me another room, an unexpected upgrade, with a larger balcony and direct sea view. I also appreciated her sincere recommendation for dinner, specifically "no touristy restaurants please". I listened and had a seafood platter at PVP - Pão, Vinho e Petiscos, opposite the hotel, and it was the best I have had in a long time! My picnic (on the day I couldn't have breakfast), taxis and room changes were all efficiently organised and carried out. Unfortunately, while I was there, the hotel was undergoing some refurbishment due to damage caused by the bad weather, and I think part of the restaurant overlooking the pool was closed, as was the indoor pool. I imagine it would be an even better experience if these areas were not closed. However, we were given plenty of notice of the refurbishment before we checked in. As a substitute, the hotel did well to liaise with the neighbouring hotel to allow us to use their indoor pool. Overall a great stay and only regret is, I could not extend my stay as the hotel was fully booked on my last night in Funchal.

We enjoyed the location and the access to local amenities. There is free indoor parking and it has access to the elevators. The room size is nice and comfortable. Enjoyed the sitting on the balcony with side sea view. I would rate that even better than direct front sea view probably. The breakfast was good but see below what I did not so much like....

I find that the hotel could provide for breakfast a little bit more exotic fruits which seem to be available on the island. We had them at much smaller hotels. Also I find the coffee here in Madeira generally too bitter and the machines seem to produce a funny awkward taste when you select anything with milk options. This is something I could complain at all the 6 hotels we stayed on Madeira.

We booked a standard sea view room and to our surprise when we got to the hotel we got an upgrade for a superior sea view room. That was quite a nice surprise to the start of the holiday. The room was amazing in every possible way. Super clean and tidy, toilet was massive and with both shower and bath tub. The beds were super comfy and in amazing state. The balcony is as so big we barely ever needed to go anywhere to sunbathe. The customer service was excellent and always prompt to help. Hotel made our day. And our stay. Thank you very much.

Staffs are very friendly and helpful! Their response to my questions before and during my stay were always quick and helpful. Martin and two ladies at the front desk provided me many good sightseeing suggestions. On my husband"s birthday a fresh chocolate cake was delivered to the room. Breakfast buffet is really good. The day after Christmas we had the delicious buffet dinner with lamb chop and duck entrees. I wish we could have stayed longer to view the new year Eve famous fireworks.

Hotel staff was vey friendly and accommodating to our requests during our stay. In particular. Catia is a gem! She assisted us with a late night check-in (our plane was 1 and 1/2 hours late in arriving to Funchal), taxis when the local Bolt service was completely booked and information about how soon we needed to get to the ferry to go to Porto Santo along with a breakfast box that morning (before the Melia breakfast buffet would be open).

We had some difficulty understanding the thermostat in our room and how to regulate the temperature.

Breakfast --There was problems with the Numbers of Guests using the Breakfast Room - at Peak Times (9 to 9.30 am) Lack of large coffee cups, and the Egg Service did not have enough staff as there was almost always a large Q waiting to be served --The Hot Extras such as Bacon and the fried eggs left a lot to be desired, -- OTHERWISE all Good especially all the Cold Items

the Delta coffee. Could not drink it! I cannot understand how a hotel like this has such bad coffee! Delta seems everywhere. No idea how they achieved that. At the bottom of the pile as far as I am concerned in terms of coffee.

The room was huge and very comfortable and clean. Great amenities (shampoo, moisturiser, etc) and Wi-Fi. The breakfast had a lot of variety but could have more traditional foods. Staff was kind. The swimming pool and the bar were cheap and nice

It is forbidden to hang your towels on your room’s balcony. It is not a big deal but more of an annoyance because there is no other option to dry them.
