The photos don't do justice to what u will experience there. It is a total disconnect from the outer world. U are in our own wonderful world and the surrounding and people are amazing too. We stayed in a regular room , but every room actually has a mountain view. The beds are great and comfy. The breakfast is limited selection but very yummy. There is lots of hiking to do around there or u can even choose to get a massage in the spa and relax .the restaurant also offers good food . The rooms provide all necessary amneties. Highly recommend the Sentinal peak hike, it's a long one,so my recommendation is to stay there at least 2-3 nights

Nothing to mention here

- Beautiful view over the Amphitheatre - several hiking paths you can choose straight from the hotel - food at the restaurant is fabulous. And I'm super picky with food. for the price it's really tasty (filet steak, fish and chips, Dom Pedro...) - they sell proper hiking maps

- I wish the staff would have been more proactive in suggesting us to book the shuttle car to go to Sentinel Peak hike, and that they would have suggested to take a guide, or at least to give us the option and list of guides. We are amateur hikers, and we would have preferred to do the Sentinel Peak hike with a professional guide because it's not an easy one and we got scared a couple of times. I think the staff is a bit too relax about that, or maybe it's not their responsability so they don't care - would have appreciated to know the hours of load shedding. we got several electricity shut off and were not aware and it seems the generator didnt take over well (maybe because of the thunder storm at night) - room a bit small, no tv

The entire staff from the front desk (Miss Try was so helpful!) to the restaurant staff, to maintenance and the spa, everyone was so kind and knowledgeable. They helped set up a guided hike as a solo traveler. As a vegetarian, there were plenty of options for each meal. I stayed in the bungalow with private bathroom and mountain view and it was breakthtaking, the shower was lovely and hot, there was a security safe for valuables, and the bed was comfortable. There were loads of trail heads just outside my door. Thank you to all the Witsienhoek staff. You all work around the clock so hard to keep guests happy. Will be back!

Everything met my expectations.

The location and the spectacular view. Great for hiking even if the weather did limit us somewaht.

Menu offerings are very limited for vegetarians and even more so for vegans. If I had looked at the menu on line before booking, I probably wouldn't have booked. There was a party of 54 research students staying at the Lodge for 3 weeks and each evening they have a buffet. The chef is therefore more than capable of offering a greater variety, particularly those with different dietary needs. Maybe consider making the buffet available to all guests and/or having some specials each evening that include vegetarian and vegan offerings. My husband was more than happy with his two meat meals!

Where do I start? The most SPECTACULAR location, incredible views from each room, very comfortable bedrooms with all the comforts needed, a cosy restaurant and bar and most importantly the BEST staff! Each staff member from the cleaning ladies to the restaurant staff and especially Tumi at reception had a huge smile & was clearly very proud of the work that they did. We will definitely be back!!

I can't fault Witsieshoek for anything at all! Unfortunately one of our party wasn't feeling great so without the long hikes during the day we found the location a little remote but that was due to our own circumstances.

You come here for the location and on that it cannot be faulted. You are surrounded by the mountains. We had one of the larger rooms which was very comfortable and spacious. The fire in the guest lounge was a nice touch. The reception staff were very helpful and I think it was Emma, sorted out a change in my date of the Tugela Falls hike due to poor weather on the original scheduled day. My guide for the walk, Tebogo, organised through the lodge, was excellent. He gave the perfect level of support, and encouragement. I had a great time on the hike and as a 59 year old, fit, but not that fit person I was delighted to get to the waterfall view point via the chain ladders, a bit scary but just take your time.

The restaurant could improve it’s offer for those with dietary needs. The restaurant staff could not advise on what was gluten free and while the food was tasty I was ill the next day after eating there. The taxi service to the start of the Tugela Falls Walk was over an hour late; I was meant to leave at 6.30am plus on the return journey one of the drivers was rather intimidating towards me saying he had waited for me, not a pleasant experience.

Let's be honest this is the place to be if you want to do the Tugela Falls/chain ladders hike as well as other hikes. We stayed in the newer Sentinel rooms and they were very comfortable, roomy with great views. We enjoyed the bar/lounge for a drink before dinner or just to hang out after the hike. Breakfast buffet had plenty of options. We also requested a packed lunch for the hike, which was very welcomed! The staff is very nice and helpful. Note: We would recommend to book a transfer to the start of the chain ladder hike at the Sentinel carpark. Do not attempt to drive there yourself as the road is in extremely bad condition. Worth the cost!

Nothing!

The location of the lodge is unique. Treat yourself a room with view of the Sentinel. It is very much worth it :) Rooms are basic but very clean and safe. Food in the compound restaurant is very reasonably priced and of good quality. Staff is extremely helpful, particularly with hiking/ activities recommendation. The lodge is by far the best starting point for the Drakensberg mountains!

For those who stay a few days longer, a small shop for supplies would be a wonderful add-on.

Great location. Very, very close to the mountains.... awesome picture-perfect views. Very quiet and peaceful. Relaxing. Very friendly staff..... The Via Ferrata up Beacon Buttress was a highlight as well as the many walks (I guess the various walks could be a bit better sign posted).

Would be nice if the Spa facility had a heated pool and a Sauna and or Steam room. A small gym would also be useful. A well appointed games room for children would be nice (with various board games, a pool table, a table tennis table, football, dart board etc.

Beautiful scenery, remote located but still provides comfort and necessary facilities. Beds are good, showers are warm, the restaurant is good, and there is a lot of variation, incl a few vegetarian options.

The price is a bit steep compared to what you get. Presumably caused by the fact this is located in a national park and the starting point of many day and overnight Hikes to the drakenberg.
