A really lovely Country House with lots of character. Excellent fine dining food and an incredible three course breakfast. The rooms had a lot of character. The team managing the house were fantastic, they have good attention to detail and professionalism whilst also demonstrating plenty of character.

We loved our stay here. It was stunning with just so much character. We had no concerns with our stay. However, I will use this space to ensure people realise that this is a country house with lots of classic luxury features. This requires a refined taste for people to enjoy. We loved it so make sure you check out the decor before you stay to ensure it is to your taste.

We were really looking forward to staying at the Schoone Oordt and on arrival we were not disappointed. Staff gave us a very warm welcome and assisted us with our luggage and showed us to our room. The room was huge and very tastefully decorated. The bathroom was a good size too with his and hers sinks, a shower and a bath. The room was very comfortable, clean and inviting. We took breakfast on both days which was very nice and also booked for dinner on one evening, which was also very good. This was a fabulous place to stay and was very quiet. The entire property is clearly very much loved and is furnished with all sorts of unusual bits and pieces. We would definitely stay again when next in the area.

The hotel, common rooms, bedrooms, outside spaces and pool area are absolutely beautiful and designed in a gorgeous colonial style. Everything has been thoughtfully arranged. Dinner and breakfasts were excellent and very creative. All staff especially the owners could not do enough for their guests. If you are staying in Swellendam, then please stay here!

Unfortunately due to load shedding, our air-con unit did not work after dinner which resulted in a room move but thankfully the hotel had a spare room available and helped move us. It was a pity but the amazing staff were very helpful.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Swellendam for 2 days during our time in South Africa and were lucky enough to stay at the Schoone Oordt Country House! The house itself its absolutely stunning! We spent 2 nights here and were greeted with a warm welcome. Alison and her family were excellent hosts, very informative and nothing was too much trouble. We particularly enjoyed our dinner, the food was absolutely fantastic! I hope we can return again at some point in the future! All the best, Tamsin & Willem

There is a reason they say this is the best place in town. It really is a bit of Victorian luxury - the place really is gorgeous. Great bar for wine and G&Ts with Ratchet the Maine Coon providing a "Big Cat" sighting on the lounge sofa. Staff were very polite and accomodating. Food was well thought out and waistlines seriously challenged by the amount and quality of dinner and breakfast. Wished we had spent more time here.

If only the rooms were in the main building. The one we had was beautiful but I can imagine it would be quite a treat to spend time in the main building.

From the moment we got there everything was so personalised and welcoming. Attention to detail. We made a last minute booking but the way they welcomed us from the moment we pulled in the drive way was as if they were waiting for our arrival. Our room was ready and waiting and well equipped with all essentials. Such a cosy room I especially loved the spacious room & bathroom as well as the cosy fire place. Breakfast was really good and well thought out. The fact that the owner Alison took time out to introduce herself and get to know her guest really just added to the experience and shows how this place is really run by love & passion❤️ To add to the experience when we got ready to leave we found that our car had been washed for us ( as we arrived via a muddy dirt road in the rain our car was so muddy you could hardly see our number plates) I thought this was really going beyond expectation. I would highly recommend this place anytime and would not think twice to return here again. KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB

Nothing comes to mind, we enjoyed the overall experience

an amazing place that exudes luxury.. a wonderful breakfast to top it all. i needed a full DSTV package for 2 nights and got it- even with loadshedding the lounge tv worked with a generator. g The owner also went out of her way to give me better rates😍 great bed and bedding.

the logs for the fireplace was a bit wet and since they don’t leave a thong and extra firelighters with you ( maybe to dangerous😂) you couldn’t escape the smoking in the room.. the second night i called for a restart- which lasted a bit longer. overall I will always choose that place in Swellendam.

We spent 3 weeks traveling SA and these guys set the absolute gold standard, hands down. - Charming property in a former colonial setting - Beautiful rooms with a log fire, huge bathrooms. - Incredible food for lunch and dinner - Car wash for your vehicle free of charge in the morning - Absolutely top of the line service from the staff; no task was too much. - Swellendam is a great little town and easily accessible from the property.

Our only regret was booking just one night!

Gracious hosting is the best way that I can describe our stay. The hosts showed great concern that we are happy with our stay throughout. The breakfast was superb, the best we have had so far on our stay in SA. On our last day I was very surprised to see my car being washed...I hadn't asked for it to be done, just one of the little and greatly appreciated touches. Beds were great and our room was cosy. Excellent location to walk into old Swellendam and well placed for journeying around. I hope that we shall visit again

Alison and Richard and all their staff make staying at their wonderful hotel an absolute pleasure! Its an oasis in the heart of a lovely, historic town and so relaxing. Alison produces food that is as good as any top chef in South Africa and the food at the hotel should have far more awards and recognition than it does!!

Hopefully the in-house power supply to counter the Load-Shedding will extend to the rooms soon. Whilst this does not create any issue with a stay there, as it is primarily overnight, it would enable both phones and medical devices to run and charge overnight.
