The property is super well located - in the heart of the action. It made it easy to wander around and get back easily. The room was small, but plenty big for myself as a solo traveller, and very clean. It was equipped with a mini split air conditioning unit which cooled the space quickly enough to be comfortable. The room gave onto Calle Mayor and had a small balcony to take in the action should you choose to do so from above.

The property is hard to find at first. The signage is minimal, and the elevator was a bit sketchy looking (turns out it works great - it helps you avoid the 77 stairs). The shower was really small. Like borderline too small, but it got the job done. One thing that would have been nice is some tourist maps to be able to grab and go to get situated. Easy solve since there are tourist kiosks peppered about.

This hotel is ideal if travelling in Madrid. The location is perfect, so close to shops, bars, restaurants etc. The hosts were so welcoming- especially the cleaner who helped us store our luggage on the last day so we wouldn’t have to carry it round whilst still travelling after we’d checked out. We had to rely on translate due to not being able to speak Spanish but this never stopped the hosts from helping us. The other reviews are correct in that the building is noisy (you can hear other guests through the walls) but by being an old building you wouldn’t expect any different. The value for money is great, would return again if travelling in Madrid again. :)

The location is perfect - no need for taxi to go around Plaza del Sol and Plaza Mayor. Added to it is that the taxi stand is practically in front of Hostal Mayor. Lots of food places nearby. There's an elevator which is very handy, and an air-conditioner. And there's Museo de Jamon on the street level. Can't go wrong with that.

Room was a little bit small, but that's what hostals are. Good enough for two.

There could have been a bigger or extra pillow in the bed. From time to time, it was a little cold in the room as the heating system was automatically switched off for periods. During these periods, the heat was completely gone from the radiator. The balcony needs renovation.

Although the hostal is part of a very old building, it's great shape with modern facilities. Everything worked splendid. The location is superb, being right next Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.

Because it's located near the main sites of the city, there's a lot of noise coming from the street. People partying and the cleaning up of the streets around 5 am wake you up easily. I had to wear earplugs.

Great location, clean, and very nice hosts. The hosts didn't speak English, but we were able to communicate through Google Translate, so everything worked out fine.

Very noisy, due to the antique balcony doors and thin walls, rather hard bed, we couldn't figure out how to use the a/c, and extremely small bathroom, but everything worked out fine for our short stay.

I liked that it was central. Nice room for just one person. Lady who runs it tried her best to communicate with me even though she did not speak english. She was lovely

I found it too hot. Though I know at this time of year in Madrid locals would find it cold and had heating on. I could have done with a/c and no heating. I also did not ask for the a/c so that is also my own fault

Easy to find, clean, great location, Luisa is more than adorable clean, quiet, did I say clean ? I know cleanness is the minimum requirement, so it's nothing excepcional. It's basic and should be expected, however, there's something about the brilliant floor and the facilities, I don't know....I just felt great there like I was staying in my aunt's house. Loved it ! Will recommend and hope to be back. Gracias Luisa and your brother.

Can't find anything....No breakfast? But it's said in the offer, so you know what you pay for and that allowed me to go to a nice chocolate café and eat their traditional Churros con chocolate. Delicious!

Very clean, secure, comfortable, with balcony overlooking Main Street. Location 1/2 block of Plaza de Sol was exceptional. Taxi stand out front. A million restaurants and interesting shops within a few blocks.

The bathroom floor was on two levels, which you had to be carful about. That's it, everything else was perfect.

In an excellent location, this hostel was exceptionally clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. The room was perfect for our needs, with modern private bathroom and small balcony with a good view of the street below and beautiful surrounding buildings. 2 minute walk to nearest Metro station (Sol) and extremely close to the fabulous Plaza Mayor.

The noise from the bustling city (and current pedestrianisation works) was loud but to be expected in such a fantastic location and ear plugs blocked that out while sleeping.
