Everything. It's beautiful and we had a great Mountain View. We were allowed an early check in which was wonderful. The front desk staff were amazing and very helpful. Breakfast was awesome with cooked to order speciality egg dishes that were so delicious - and plenty of other options. Would very highly recommend.

Not so much a dislike, but there were very young kids running up and down and screaming constantly through the hallway directly in front of our room and front entrance for a few hours into the evening. It was mostly aggravating as it went on for quite a while in the presence of staff with no intervention. I believe the staff may have been hosting a family dinner. Maybe just be mindful of exhausted travelers still trying to adapt to jet leg and time change as it was very frustrating.

Our first room was with bunk beds. They were narrow with no guard rail on top bunk. As I’m 76 I struggled with the top bunk as the space to ceiling was very low. I suggest if you’re over 60 make sure you get beds resting on floor. The following day we were moved without hesitation to a very nice room. This should not take from this property.

The breakfast was excellent. Wide variety, all freshly made. Really enjoyed the scrambled eggs with the homemade flatbread. Staff offered to make daily specials and very friendly. Great location to everything within walking distance. All staff provided great service and helped with any question.

The only area I would improve on is the size of the bed. The singles are fine, whereas the beds for couples are very cozy, although the rooms reflect the history of the area and are more defined as trapper rooms.

I was greeted with my name at the door and the staff were all so friendly, kind, and helpful. It felt like I was talking to friends whenever I needed help with anything. They arranged excursions for me which were lots of fun and I really recommend, especially the husky sledding. The room was extremely clean and comfortable and the style of the interior of the hotel is beautiful and unique. It had a lot of character. The breakfast was tasty with a variety of choices and the chef takes one’s allergies into account. There is free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in reception and it was nice to sit there with other guests and have a drink with locally produced alcohol. The location is along the main shopping street of Longyearbyen and the airport bus stops right outside. Absolutely lovely experience. I will certainly come again.

Everything was awesome. The team at Basecamp treated was so kindly we felt like at home after 1st moment. The chef turned me from a tost fan to a Eggs Benedict fan. I will miss every moment from the time we walked into the reception until our pick-up back to the airport. Thank you all for such a great experience.

There was nothing to dislike.

One of the most amazing hotels I've stayed in (and I've stayed in a LOT of hotels, around the world). Loved the rustic vibe of the facility, it really does feel like you're on an adventure without overdoing it. Location very easy to find. Excellent reception and staff, they were very helpful and very communicative before and during the trip (had an issue with the booking early on and they were able to help me figure it out so that it didn't effect our stay). A bit pricey but then every place in Longyearbyen is, so that is to be expected and it is worth every kroner - I recommend Basecamp Explorers to anyone considering travel to Svalbard and I hope to stay here myself again in the future.

Legit don't have anything bad to say about that spot. A real gem in Longyearbyen and the other reviews bear this out as well!

Wooden rustic features throughout. Room charming and unique. Beds solid and so comfortable! Central location in Longyearbyen giving easy access to shops, bars and restaurants, all a very short walk away. Environmental credentials which is very important to me. Breakfast was amazing.

Perfect location right in the center of town. Fun, rustic “Arctic explorer” style. Room is cozy and comfortable.

The staff is kind and I think wants to be helpful, but there seemed to be some sort to gap in communication. Expect to do all of your own activity planning, arrange your own transportation, etc

Basecamp Hotel is all wood, very warm- feeling, and cozy—wood floors, walls, ceilings. The design was simple, rugged because of the thick wood, and beautiful. It was a relief to be there after being outdoors in the cold, stark arctic town. My solo traveler room had a wonderfully comfortable double bed tucked into an alcove and a modern, sleek bathroom. The breakfast was truly amazing—great breads, eggs, oatmeal and cereals, cheeses. All delicious. They do know how to cook and be hospitable way up north.

First, just the design of the hotel is fantastic, you feel like in a place for explorers (and their families). Walking through corridors and discovering hidden passages is already an adventure. The attic with a glass roof and nice sitting area is a great place to relax. Second, the staff is super friendly and helpful. They will help you arrange your trips if you have not done so in advance. They also serve complimentary hot chocolate, tea and coffee any time of the day (next to the reception). Breakfast is really nice and will keep your energy up for quite some hours. Location is very convenient, just in the middle of the village, and you have an inside passage to the a great restaurant KROA. The supermarket (the only one in the town) is just few steps away. The place overall has a very nice atmosphere. I wish I could stay there longer.

Hard to find anything wrong. Perhaps the light in the bedrooms was poor. You cannot read any book there. Yet, it still adds to the atmosphere. WiFi is ok although again, in my bedroom, the connectivity was poor. Well, eventually the bedrooms are for sleeping and recovering after eventful day of exploring Svalbard. So, it is not something I would complain too much. Still, perhaps investing in a WiFi booster (for the room no.1) would help.
