Our family of four was on a two-week tour of the UK and the Royal Oak was our last big splurge night. We are fans of James May and when we found out he was an investor we were keen to stay in his Inn. The space has been beautifully renovated, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the rooms are comfy and well-appointed. We had a delicious dinner, including cocktails made with Mr. May's gin, and a wonderful complimentary breakfast in the morning. It was a perfect end to our vacation. Our day was full starting at Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm Shop, then Stonehenge, and ending at The Royal Oak so, it was all pretty perfect!

The complimentary breakfast was fantastic. Great service with every change to a breakfast made. (Example, Poached egg hard boiled instead of runny). The room was great with fantastic sized bed but partner felt that for the price the room that it should've had a bathtub with it. Evening dinner menu was really nice. Having fresh bottled water in the room was a great little touch along with the cafetiere.

For the length of the room from the bed, the TV on the wall could've have been bigger and the little bigger. Also, the little fridge seemed like an after thought considering the quality of the overall room.

Our second visit and well worth it!Fantastic base to explore, either all the local history-Stonehenge, Salisbury,Shaftesbury etc or further afield approximately an hours drive-Bath,Bournemouth or Poole. The Royal Oaks location is peaceful and surrounded by picturebook scenery.Homely friendly feel with employees giving exceptional customer service- rooms very tastefully stylish and comfortable.Quirky touches such as a hot water bottle puts a smile on your face. Remarkable food -high restaurant standard, nothing basic or pub grub about it. Overall my son and myself can't sing it's praises enough..superb mini break!!

Nothing.

Lovely, friendly atmosphere in a peaceful, beautiful small village. The garden at the back is very nice, the food is good and portions are big, the pub inside is very cozy, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The location is just 30 min drive from Stonehenge and worked well for the morning visit after a tasty breakfast.

This is a typical, old British house with it's peculiarities, specifically related to plumbing - cold and warm water separately, shower not working very well etc. but all quite normal, one would assume, in the house this age.

Last minute booking to break up our journey home from Cornwall. Beautiful character pub, we were upgraded by Guy to a lovely spacious room (not requested by us). We had our evening meal here and both Guy and Verity were both extremely accommodating along with the lovely gentleman (sorry didn’t get his name) that served us breakfast in the morning. Both our evening meal and breakfast were amazing. You get a little bottle of milk in a table top fridge in your room which is a great idea. Everything had been thought about. We will definitely be back and hopefully for a bit longer next time. Thank you to everyone that made our stay warm and welcoming.

We were only stopping away for one night for my birthday, and didn’t want to travel too far, so decided to try out the Royal Oak because of the James May connection. Its a traditional country pub on the outside, with a restrained gastro feel inside. We booked a deluxe room (Cranmore), which had a vast bed with high quality linen, lots of herbal teas provided, a spacious bathroom with very powerful shower. Food was excellent at dinner and breakfast, priced about where I expected. They had three different real ales. Service from the pleasant and enthusiastic young staff was good, and the pub is dog friendly.

Not much. It’s an old building and there was quite a lot of noise from people moving around in the room above - creaky floorboards and running water etc. The guest staircase carpet is getting threadbare and will need changing soon before it becomes a trip hazard. Might be an idea to fill some of the potholes in the gravelled car park too, but that might be recent damage from the January floods.

The Hotel when you stopped outside after a long journey was wonderful. The thatched roof, seating area outside was so inviting we had a pint of cider before we checked in . The staff were just so kind, friendly and the manager was very helpful , and couldn't do enough for you . The pub was just lovely inside ,the oak room where you had food was beautiful leading onto a bar garden .The bedrooms were clean and done out very well .The fridge in the room was a good shout by the owners . Towels were very good quality. I will be staying again with my son and his family just wonderful

The only thing was the entrance to our rooms , we had our own entrance to our rooms and front door key which was amazing . The entrance had not been cleaned and the stairs needed to be hovered before we got to our rooms . I put this down to the cleaner they must have noticed that the stairs needed doing and chose not to do it ,

A very beautiful pub in unspoilt English countryside. The bedroom was immaculate, the enormous comfortable bed like sleeping on fresh air, and the thoughtfulness of putting fresh milk in a little fridge with cafetiere coffee and Tea Pigs tea varieties made me feel that it was important to you that I enjoyed my stay. It felt like a warm hug from a friend. All the staff I met were so well-trained, friendly, helpful, polite, and most of all, kind. I felt very well cared for. A young man even took my bag upstairs. The food was utterly delicious too. Please don't go otherwise I might not be able to book again whenever I want to go!

Absolutely nothing. One of my most memorable stays anywhere.

Situated in a lovely village. Traditional old Pub which has been nicely refurbished. Staff were friendly and very helpful. We ate in the Restaurant and the food was very nice. Our room was large with a super king bed, a great mattress and high quality bed linen. Nice bathroom with a good shower. Our plans changed and we had to leave at 4am the day after our stay ,due to a change in the time of departure of our Ferry from Plymouth. We asked as we wouldn’t be having breakfast if they could make us some sandwiches, we were assured by the staff member that he would find out. We thought he had forgotten ,but when we left in the early hours there was a small fridge plugged in outside our room containing sandwiches, bottled water along with crisps, apples and some chocolate. This was greatly appreciated and very kind. Our dog was welcome everywhere in the pub including the Restaurant. We had a lovely stay and would recommend.
