Hotel Atwater is a lovely hotel with modern, beautifully appointed rooms. The staff was friendly and efficicient, getting a boatload of guests into rooms well before the 4 p,m. check in time.

I don't really agree with a $44 resort fee without any resort ammenities at the hotel - no pool, spa, golf, tennis or anything that can be construed as resort facilities. It is a nicely appointed hotel in a resort-like area. They offer to loan you beach towels but that shouldn't cost $44. Perhaps summertime guests get entry into Descanso Beach Club included in the resort fee, but that doesn't really apply in the winter.

This is a beautiful hotel and it is beautifully maintained. The common areas are, in particular, very attractive and very nicely decorated. The maintenance and cleanliness of this older hotel are both spectacular. The staff is extremely nice and very accomodating of (for example) showering on the last day after being at the beach, storing luggage, etc. The hotel also has access to a sister hotel (The Pavilion) and a very good sister restaurant (Avalon Grille), where the daily resort credit is useable.

Only one problem with this hotel and it is unavoidable in an old hotel: the rooms are very small (even though we paid extra for a larger room). If this had been better, than I would have rated this hotel a 9 or a 10. (And please note that this is probably pretty standard for the hotels on the island - they are all old and the rooms are probably small.)

Hotel AtWater is the perfect combination of luxury and affordability. It's perfect for the discerning eye without breaking the bank. The touches of old world charm, attention to detail, and the extra step taken whenever possible really makes the AtWater shine even when compared to the front street hotels. You feel like you've been transported back to 1920s Avalon in its heyday the moment you step into the lobby. While small, the room was immaculate and tastefully updated in a way that makes the space limitation of the original building creatively functional. The bedding is soft and fluffy, not flat, with an actual comforter instead of a thin blanket covered with a sheet. The matress was decent afforded quality sleep. While not directly on the main street, the views from the room were still spectacular with the ocean peaking above the buildings. It's centerally located among all the main attractions and right across the street from the island tour pick-up lot. The staff are fantastic, provided luggage service to and from the ferry terminal, and were able to assist with booking tours and activities directly through the hotel. It was our 15th Anniversary and our first visit to Catalina. Our stay at Hotel AtWater made it one of the most memorable and special trips we've taken.

The room doors are wood and not insulated, so hallway noise can be heard more frequently. Vouchers were given in lieu of providing a breakfast, but you do not receive one for the day you check out. So, if your stay is short, you're forced to use their coffee shop or hope something is open early enough for you.

Central Location made it easy to shop, dine, explore museum, beach, tour center, escape room attraction. Hotel had an elevator which is not always available in older hotels, The Atwater Hotel has been recently remodeled and the bathrooms are amazing with very updated showers/shower heads. Temperature control in our room was a nice touch - it worked! Hotel staff were anxious to help us find restaurants, attractions, etc. We arrived early on the 1st boat and they were able to give us an early check-in. We felt very pampered. Beds are wonderful, we had a room safe, refrigerator, updated tv, 2 complimentary wine mixers, complimentary water bottles. Although we didn't use it, the hotel had a wonderful exercise gym. Inside access to next door post office. Lots of water activities at the pier a block away. We ordered a cab twice during our stay and they showed up as mini-vans within 5 min each time. Hotel has discounts available for many restaurants and attractions. We enjoyed a wonderful meal at the nearby Avalon Grill and they just charged it to our room! (Try the Buffalo Milk). Special thanks to Lilly at the front desk of Atwater Hotel for magically coordinating all our needs.

Noisy restaurant across the street. No in room coffee. Nearest coffee stand very expensive, (go to the ice cream/candy store on the corner for your nearest coffee and pastries). Breakfast nearby at Original Jack's Country Kitchen for Kona Coffee.

I appreciated the hotel's central location, which made it convenient to access a variety of amenities within a short walking distance. The accommodations were well-maintained, the staff were courteous, and the lobby served as a vibrant social space where guests could engage in various activities. Additionally, the $20 nightly credit was a thoughtful gesture, and the availability of a fitness center further enhanced the overall experience.

I would like to bring to your attention that we experienced some discomfort with the bed, as both my husband and I woke up each morning with back pain. Aside from this concern, we have no other complaints.

We stayed at Hotel Atwater on a recommendation from family who had been staying there since the 1950's. The location is wonderful. Right in the heart of Avalon within minutes of every restaurant and bar in town. The walk from the boat dock is 8 minutes and completely paved for roller-type luggage. Golf cart rentals, kayak and SUP rentals are all nearby and the hotel offers discounts when booked through them. We stayed during the Palisades fire in January looking for a brief respite from smoke and flames as well as a destination that is quiet and "off-season", no cruise ships or large crowds that time of year. Check-in was straightforward and easy. The room was clean and located above the parking lot on the back side of the building. The bathroom was large and clean. The thermostat was a bit challenging to operate but staff arrived to assist with that. There was no remote available in the room for our television. Staff delivered a non-working remote that could not be programmed to our room. So, no TV entertainment or news during our stay. We requested a later check-out of 12 noon so that we could take an early morning hike and return to shower before our ferry departed, but were told that was not permitted and staff could not accommodate that. Upon check-out we were told by reception that our fee for coffee and croissants would be waived as a compensation for the television not working...but full fee was processed to our card anyway. The hotel is renovated and very pretty. The lobby is warm and inviting. The location is ideal. Service, amenities and guest considerations are a bit lacking.

Service, amenities and guest considerations are a bit lacking. Staff does not seem to be empowered to make decisions to assist in some guest requests.

The hotel staff were amazing! From the bellhop at the port who assisted with taking our luggage to the hotel and recommended we check in and get placed in the queue for early check in to the gal at the front desk (Lily) who was helpful all throughout our stay. Lily was able to assist me with the purchase of activities to do during our stay, providing us with beach towels and informing us with how we could get our luggage dropped back off at the port on our departure day. Overall our stay was wonderful and very relaxing. The beds were so comfortable and the room was spotless and clean upon arrival! Thank you Hotel Atwater for the hospitality and comfortable stay!!

Everything during our stay was phenomenal! Keep up the great work!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They always had some water and coffee in the lobby so you could hydrate when you're coming and going. My mom has mobility issues and they were very helpful to get our stuff to our room and help us around the lobby. The location couldn't be more perfect. It was one block away from the water. It was one block away from everything, very centrally located. They had a great little coffee place open in the mornings. They had a great little baggage service to get your bags to and from the pier.

No suggestions.

First of all, I was comfortable in my room. The beds were really comfortable. The bathroom was super nice. I liked the air-conditioning. I also loved the water placed in the lobby. The cucumber water was perfect. Thank you. We had a double queen which was perfect for us. The Atwater cafe was nice for breakfast and receiving the $20 credit towards food was super nice. I used it everyday. Thank you. I would have liked a coffee maker in the room but its OK. Thank you for giving us a refrigerator. I also enjoyed the two flights of prosecco upon arrival. Booking was easy and checking out was super good because there were two of us checking out at different times. Was also super to have luggage picked up at arrival and delivered to ferry dock. I was also pleased at the ease and discounts used for excursions. TY

Maybe a coffee maker and a microwave in these rooms.

Loved the Hotel Atwater. Location is great. Close to the water but set back enough to avoid the noise of the crowds. Beautiful property. Elegant design. Our room was TINY but thoughtfully designed and beautiful. Tiny fridge with 2 gratis bottles of Prosecco and bottled water. Lovely fluffy and thick white towels. Comfortable bed. Nice $20. credit per day at Avalon Grill or small cafe near lobby. Staff was great. Highly recommend!

AC/Heat was a bit loud and control not easy to use. Room was TINY. Out view was of a wall.
