The Oak and Anchor is an unusually attractive regional hotel, handsome from the outside and inside. The recent restoration has been done with a fine talented eye to retaining many features of the old building, in particular the superb interior stone work, broad corridors and stairs and large windows, while ensuring modern comforts. Our room was large and light, as was the bathroom. The restaurant is very attractive with good spacing between tables. Breakfast was a self-serve spread of key breakfast foods, all fresh and high quality, and generously barista coffees were available to order gratis with breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The location is terrific for foot access to the centre of Port Fairy and the marina/foreshore.

We found the a la carte dinner menu needed a bit of a rethink. The kitchen is talented - many dishes were good to excellent individually ( superb bread, a memorable quinoa salad and a great mains flounder) but the mains come without anything else on the plate, eg a large serve of roast lamb, with no sides of any size and some of the limited side offerings seem an awkward "fit." The kitchen is generous, which is always a compliment, but the chips, while terrific, would have easily fed a family and we had food waste, as did other tables. The wine selection is varied and interesting.

The hotel is historic and yet it has been renovated to a very high standard with quality fixtures, fittings and linens. Staff were very friendly and we were sent detailed check in information prior to arrival. They have a beautiful open fireplace away from the main bar which proved to be a great location for a few drinks before dinner. They have a selection of tasty bar snacks and the plates of hot chips are huge and great value for the price. Breakfast was served buffet style along the bar and there was home made muesli, poached fruit and local sourdough on offer. Bacon and egg breakfast burgers can be cooked to order.

Perfect location! Beautiful room with all the required comforts for a lovely stay.

Hotel itself did lack atmosphere in the main bar/restaurant. The welcome email, extremely thoughtful but information overload and could have been covered at time of check in and maybe a way for staff to build a connection as they kept forgetting we were guests whenever we past through the main area. Staff were always friendly but not very personable for such a high end boutique style property. The bathroom/toilet was part of the main room and thought the cheap bamboo divider for the toilet wasn’t in-keeping with the high end fixtures and fittings, but the rest of the room was amazing.

The breakfast was lovely, the location fantastic. The bathtub was gorgeous with beautiful products to use. The room has lovely high ceilings and is very comfortable. The staff were also very helpful and professional.

The only drawback to the room is that the toilet/bathroom is not private. When you are using the toilet you are visible to your partner as the room is open plan without a door separating the living space from the bathroom. There is a folding screen to act as a bit of privacy but it is see through and doesn't account for smell and sound! This is rather confronting/uncomfortable for both parties. The shower and bath tub are also open but not so much of an issue.

Heritage charm. Light, spacious rooms with comfortable king sized bed. Great breakfast and even better coffee made by the ‘breakfast barista’. Location very good.

Underwhelmed by Sidro restaurant. For the prices being charged the service did not match nor did the quality of the food. Inexperienced young wait staff that did not really know how to attend table or guests. E.g. Bottle of water just dumped on the table, reaching across the table to place a knife on the far side of the diner, wine glass placed at the diners elbow, no interaction in terms of ‘how was the meal’, or ‘can we get you anything else’. While food was good it was by no means at the higher end expected, e.g., pickled cabbage and feta (and missing dill) did not really compliment the beef short rib, and the confit leak in the potatoes - well, not sure it was there really. Pineapple syrup cake lacked any taste of pineapple.

Beautifully presented property. Our room (Bridal Suite) was stunning. Huge space, outdoor private deck, freestanding bath. Heating and cooling was easy and worked well. The bed was very comfortable. The included breakfast was the best we’ve ever had, and our dinner in the restaurant was exceptional. Such a beautiful area, lovely walks to take, and quality shops to wander through.

The open bathroom was less than comfortable, and the bathroom lighting was not ideal for make up. Other than that - a truly magnificent stay in a beautiful part of Australia.

Breakfast was good. Coffee was amazing and service great. We loved the room, the location and the staff. They went out of their way to make our stay wonderful, gave us extra cookies and plenty of water and coffee. Highly recommend this venue in Port Fairy.

We asked for a late checkout and given they weren't that busy, we got an absolute 'no' upon request at check-in. 'We will try, ask us later' would have been nicer. We would have loved an upgrade given they were offering 3 nights for the price of two in the next two weeks and during the time we were there, most of the rooms were unoccupied.

We loved our stay, we wish we were there longer as everything about it was amazing! The staff were brilliant all so friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable just spot on! The building is so impressive and so very well restored into a stunning all in one experience. We dined at the restaurant down stairs this didn't disappoint, amazing! We didn't need to go anywhere else, it was so cold, windy and wet so this suited us fine, as we ducked down for brekky which was once again delightful. The rooms themselves had everything we needed, the bath was beautiful with all the finer details of salts, and a sugar scrub, the towels such quality! It may seem an expensive option but it's certainly well worth it for a special occasion!!!!

No negatives here!

Hotel has been renovated beautifully. Drinks and snacks available in the Bar during the day. A voucher was issued to us for breakfast at a cafe further up the road which was excellent. Quite a few choices were available from 7 until 2pm. Room was lovely and quiet. Lovely products supplied for showering and hand washing. Bath robes also supplied. A nice deep bath with lovely products although we didn't use the bath. Staff very friendly.

Would be nice to in the future be able to have a meal there. Could do with a couple of extra power points to be able to charge phones easily.
