Nice accommodation in the middle of town, well located to walk to downtown and Barrio Escalante. We felt safe, but we were there without a car. The hotel garden is green and quiet, the staff very nice. What we liked the most was the rich and varied breakfast!

As good as the grounds, staff and breakfast were: We didn't particularly like our room as it was inside to the hallways and close to the reception. It was very dark, stuffy and warm (but had a fan) and you could hear everything from outside. The bathroom could use renovation, the furnishings were rather rustic and simple, though spacious. It was okay for 1-2 nights. We would give the room a "6", everything else a "10".

There was great advisement from the proprietor about arrival to the hotel, and I was able to arrange for airport pick-up that worked out super well. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was in love with all the art and plants around the property. It really adds charm to the experience. The service from staff was great. The breakfast in the garden was lovely. The location was nice with cute cafes, a nice supermarket and other things in a walkable distance.

There was no A/C in the room, and my room was near an area where a lot of people walked by, but thankfully people were not too rowdy, so I didn't notice it too much.

Breakfast was great, encountered first costa rican wildlife while eating made-to-order omelette. Quirky interior was refreshing in comparison to the many sterile, IKEA decorated hotels. Attached restaurant serves great food - fancy, but not over the top. Walking distance to other nice places to eat too. Staff are all very friendly, multilingual, and helpful. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the walls of our room were very thin. Some visitors had early (eaaaarly) flights, so every morning around 4-5am, we were woken up by rolling suitcases. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the central corridor and maybe bring earplugs.

The hotel was in excellent location, quiet street yet within short walking distance from main attractions. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very delicious and there was something for everyone to choose from. We really enjoyed the decor of the hotel and learning about various Costa Rican myths and fables through the art work.

This is not a criticism but more of a FYI. This in an eco friendly hotel and the water is heated through solar panels. This means that if there is not enough sun there may not be hot water. During our stay one day was overcast so the water did not warm but the second day was sunny and the water was very hot and shower comfortable. Overall it was not an issue for us though.

We booked a room for a night in Aranjuez, but ended up staying 3. The place is magical. We loved quirkiness of it, unique decor, jungle growing inside, hidden cosy chairs, and the absolute highlight - breakfast area. The breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica. Its a buffet with a great selection of fruit, bread, cheese, ham, cakes, teas etc. Special compliments to the chef, who is making omelettes. They are nice, We watched amazing wildlife during dreakfast every time: squirrels, hummingbirds, butterflies, tropical birds of most amazing colours.

Absolutely delightful funky-cool old set of connected buildings, decorated with local art and Bruja sculptures. Loved the various little garden sitting areas. Our room was large and the bed was excellent. Fantastic breakfast in a large garden area. Kind and helpful staff who worked with us to find a restaurant for Christmas Eve dinner (not easy in San Jose) and actually had a corkscrew delivered so we could open our holiday bottle of wine. Great value!

This is in a great location, away from the noise of the city but not far to walk to the attractions. The breakfast is the highlight, a wonderful experience in essentially a plant garden behind the property (see photo), and the staff running the breakfast are very friendly. I will stay here again if ever in SJ.

The only issue I had was people talking in the lounge through the night and early hours of the morning. In room 4 I could hear this.

A stunningly beautiful hotel, extending over three or four adjoining properties. You have to admire the brilliant and bizarre artworks here, there and everywhere, the fantastic breakfast (with a staff member to cook eggs any way you want in addition to the standard fare), and the really comfortable room (I had one on the courtyard). A perfect sitting room and free coffee available all day meant I had the most relaxing time ever in a hotel. A beautiful (if expensive) restaurant next door (but with a Spanish restaurant alternative just 50 metres away. And there's a cinema just down the road.

The location is excellent - lots of nice bars and restaurants nearby, and an easy walk into the city centre. Good shower in the bathroom Lovely breakfast served in a garden setting, give a piece of banana to the squirrels!

Room and bed a little compact. If a light sleeper you might need earplugs.

Hotel Aranjuez is located in a very nice area, some 15mins (safe) walking distance north of Plaza de Democracia. It has a jungle like garden in the backyard with flying birds and squirrels running around. Breakfast is also served there (the best we had in 3 weeks in Costa Rica) so you can already experience some "wild life" while being in the capital city. Rooms were very clean and quite spacious. Staff was really nice and helpfull.

Due to the small window facing the backyard the room was a bit dark and damp.
