Ok I'll start by admitting that I've never spent any significant time in Cherbourg. It's always just been a point of arrival or departure. What a gem we've been missing! It's lovely big pedestrianised areas and lively cafe/bar atmosphere is fantastic and very easy to get around. The Hotel de Cercle is right in the heart of this. The room was huge (junior suite) and spotless. The bathroom was massive and the shower was perfect. The room had everything we needed for a family of 4. We opted for the breakfast option and were very happy that we did. There were lots of fresh and delicious options. The bread and fresh juice were especially good. The parking is over the road in a very reasonably priced car park (€2.90 all night). The staff in particular were friendly, helpful and very happy to help. Wholeheartedly recommend though.

One word of advice would be bring earplugs. The hotel is very centrally located which is very convenient but obviously comes with a degree of noise and the hotel's green credentials mean it is very well insulated and warm, so if you want the windows open....

The room was very comfortable and attractive. There was a mini fridge & microwave. The bed was comfortable. The location was convenient for walking to shopping and restaurants. Breakfast was very good with many choices of cereal, bread, eggs, sausage, yogurt, fruit, etc. Best of all was the staff - very helpful, professional, and friendly!

The bathroom didn't smell so clean. The area in which the hotel is located has a lot of street noise and loud church bells which rang surprisingly frequently during our stay. We always travel with earplugs, so we still slept well :)

Great location in the heart of the town but quiet and comfortable accomodation with spacious rooms and very comfortable beds. Audrey on reception was a great ambassador for the hotel and very helpful and informative about the area and things to see and do. Hotel has a lovely breakfast room also and there is parking nearby.

Housekeeping could be better - cups were not checked and left dirty after housekeeping had been. Some supplies like milk and toilet roll were left short. Once we asked for these they were freely given.

If you are looking for an amazing hotel in Cherbourg. Look no further. This was the second time I stayed at this amazing hotel. The staff went out of their way and ordered me a taxi on two occasions. They were all very helpful. The hotel is in a great location and the rooms are very modern. The bath rooms are amazing and have everything you need. I definitely will stay at this amazing hotel again in the near future. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland, Lived in the United States for over thirty years and served with the United States Marines all over the World. I definitely know an amazing hotel from all my Travels and Life Experiences. This Establishment rates ten stars ⭐️ and more. You won’t be disappointed by your stay here.

No dislikes at all

Really good location. 7 minute drive from the ferry port and right by the historical centre and marina. There is a free car park directly over the main road opposite the hotel (next to the marina). There are some nice places to eat just round the corner and the markets on Saturday were great, lots of fresh fruit, veg, bread, etc. The room was a good size, clean, nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good. I liked the refillable shower gel/shampoo dispenser in the shower. There was a safe, wardrobe, hairdryer, fridge, espresso machine and kettle in the room.

Just a suggestion, but it would be nice if there was also a refillable soap dispenser in the room instead of the mini wrapped soaps. Also, it was nice there was a free bottle of water in the fridge, to go and extra step would be nice to have a water refill machine/tap on the corridor to reduce plastic. The floor in the shower was a little slippy. Maybe add a shower mat?

This is a really lovely hotel. We booked one night ahead of our ferry crossing. We had lovely adjoining rooms for us and the children. Lovely high ceilings and big windows - the rooms were really light and airy. (It's an old Naval building) Nice view of the port. Hotel was immaculate and staff were really lovely and very helpful. Large bathrooms with big walk in showers. Nice coffee making machine in the room. Beds were large and comfortable. Both rooms came with very large electric tower fans to make up for the lack of air con which did a good job of keeping the rooms cool. Hotel was in a great location - over the road from free parking and an easy 10minute drive to the ferry terminal. It was also only a 20min walk to Citi De La Mer which is a museum of the sea and aquarium on the port that we took the kids to before our ferry. It was also city centre location so 5mins from shops, bars and restaurants. Ideal for our needs. Exceeded expectations. Would consider returning if ever back in Cherbourg.

There was nothing I didn't like.

Location. We were travelling back to the Channel Islands the following morning and had an early check in. Travelling with two dogs. We had a comfort room and it was stunning. It was on the third floor and we were chuffed to bits with it. Bath robes, kettle, coffee machine and a massive really comfortable bed. Lovely pillows! There is no restaurant service in the evening and we’d been driving all day, so didn’t want to venture out. The hotel offer a limited room service menu which we took advantage of. The food was really nice. The hotel gave us bread and a piece of cheese which was a nice touch. Very friendly and fast check in.

Nothing not to like. A note of caution currently-there are road works next to the hotel (not the hotel’s fault) and a straight forward drive to the ferry terminal became a little more difficult with diversions and in the dark - but we still got there in 15/20 minutes.

A gem of a hotel right on the harbour. We booked this hotel for the Friday night as we had a ferry back to jersey on the Saturday. Unfortunately our sailing was cancelled till the Sunday. We decided then that we would stay in Rennes on the Friday and requested to change the date in the hotel to the Saturday. Even though this payment was non refundable and the hotel could have refused, they changed it absolutely no problem and didn’t charge a penny extra. Big thank you tho Clarisse and Mathilde for helping with this, they are a credit to the hotel. They gave us a lovely room with a view over the harbour on the 3rd floor. I highly recommend this hotel, close to all the bars and shops, free overnight parking directly outside, great value for money

Really nice comfortable room and bed, nice shower, very central for shops etc, I have stayed here before hence the repeat booking, did not have the breakfast or use the room kettle or coffee machine, but the coffee in the reception bar was very nice as was the draught Leffe beer. The ladies on reception were very helpful allowing me to securely store my bicycle in the store room and for storing my panniers on the day of departure until 16:00 to allow me to collect my belongings and go straight to the port for the evening ferry to Poole. I visited the Hippodrome de Cherbourg while I was there, but as this was on a Sunday the buses are infrequent so this involved a long walk.

As I stayed here on a warm October night with the windows open and did not want to use the aircon, there were drunk people making a lot of noise outside the hotel for much of the night, when I arrived there were people obstructing the hotel entrance drinking cans of Heineken, which detracted from the ambiance a little. This is however, outside the control of the hotel.

Staff was very friendly, both, at the reception, as well as at breakfast,. Breakfast was excellent, with a really great selection of food on offer. Although, the hotel does not have a car park, it was really easy to find parking space just a few yards away at very low cost.

There are only two slightly negative points: The air in the room was very sticky and it only had a fan, no air conditioning. Further, the window could only get opened fully, and not at a tilt. With the warm weather, we slept with the fully opened window, careful not to bang against it when getting out of bed, but if the weather gets hotter, it will be tough to find sleep. Second point is, as the toilet is separate from the bathroom, it would've been great to have a basin to wash hands in the toilet, too.
