The location is great, right in the middle of the city center. In our case, we were able to easily park the car in the street because it way a bank holiday, not sure how parking is around the area. The room had a mini fridge and AC, which ended up being super important, since it was very hot (mid august).

The building has elevator, but it does not fit the baggage cart, so if you cannot be used to easily move a lot of luggage upstairs. Reception closes very early, at 8pm. We arrived there at 8.30 and had to enter a code to get in (the properly called us beforehand and send the code to us, we had no issue). The bed was not the most comfortable. We were exhausted and only stayed for one night, so that was good enough, but not sure if I would like to sleep there for 4/5 days.

The owner behind the reception, a great bloke always ready with advice for anything you need in the city, and you can just tell he wants all of his clients to have the best possible time while visiting! And the wife in charge of the breakfast, what a sweetheart! Even taught me how to pronounce some key words! 10/10 for the staff from me. The facility itself is very old, and you should keep that in mind. It's even possible you might find an appliance so old here you've only seen them in movies before, especially if you're a young traveller like myself. I found all this fascinating and fun change for the usual, but I could see how someone would be turned off by this. And then the size of the room.. the bathroom alone was about the size of the rooms you usually get, and on top of that there was of course the room for sleeping, and that too was more than big enough for my needs. So really the size of the room shouldn't be an issue for anyone staying here, that's for sure!

The building itself is very old, and the tiles and the appliances in many cases might be almost the original ones, which for me, is quite an opposite to a negative, but I could see someone not being into it, so I think it should be mentioned. Also the reception is open during very limited hours, once you're checked in you can go in and out as you please, but if you arrive early, be prepared to kill the time until the reception opens again in the afternoon.

Emergency stay ! But good value for money, and the lady at Reception was just WONDERFUL: so friendly, helpful, kind… and the other lady with whom we interacted was delightful, too. Rooms were fine in an older hotel, no frills.

Air con could be looked at (but great fan provided at no extra cost); ‘courtyard view’ is overselling it, but a little spend (paint, plants: 1 day’s work) could have it fixed for a year ! A bit of money and care could have this hotel up its prices a little to recoup the outlay. Perhaps a cheap coffee machine in the rooms ? Again, it would justify the outlay.

The bedroom had openable double glazed French windows and was tastefully decorated. The views were interesting and leafy. The area is delightful & was peppered with cafés in the morning. The Hippopotamus nearby served tasty evening fòod. There were many good restaurants nearby for lunch. The shower had a wide enough entrance for me. The ensuite was well equipped and spotless. The coffee at breakfast was very good. There was a functioning lift. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Was given extra pillows with a smile. The see through desk chair was surprisingly very comfortable. The breakfast fruit was very frresh. The whole place is very homely and friendly service was a delight. The instruction manual for TV, phone etc. is very clear and helpful.

Bed was a little too low but very comfortable. Getting out of it was a challenge for me since I am heavy with painful knees. I forgot to ask for a kettle. Continental breakfast had no cheese, butter or ham but had a fine array of jams and good croissants. I would have preferred a noon exit as I am very slow in the morning. I would like booking.com to make it clear one has not paid the bill by giving card details. It is embarrassing for the staff and the customers to have a strong misunderstanding around full payment needing to happen on departure. They are very polite about it but customer confusion is not something they should need to field.

It was very good to return to the Hotal de France after two years away because of the pandemic. I have returned a few times this summer. The same very cheerful and warm reception. Henri , the director, is the perfect host - welcoming, helpful but not intrusive. All the rooms are different and charming- this is not your typical chain hotel where every room is the same wherever you are staying! Some of the slightly more expensive rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The air conditioning is very efficient in all rooms. Excellent value for money for a city centre hotel with only a few minutes walk to restaurants, shops and tourist sites. Thank you Henri for another great stay.

Perhaps a desk light where the table is in a dark space. Perhaps tea and coffee in all rooms!

Location could not be better. All the very best of Perpignan on the doorstep. The staff is extremely helpful, kind, welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast was a delicious buffet with fresh bread, croissants, jams, fruits, cereal, yoghurts, coffee etc. Love the vintage vibes of the place. So French, with the high ceilings, glass doors, lift, beautiful artwork and the general decor.

Great location amongst lots of bars and restaurants and a nice view of the river, comfortable bed and excellent continental breakfast. Henri, the owner, and his lovely wife are excellent hosts, they really made our stay very enjoyable. Would definitely stay again in the future

No kettle in the room, although advertised on booking.com However, when we asked about it, we were able to borrow one. Was a bit inconvenient having to wait a few minutes for electric and water to come through. WiFi signal not always available.

I've known this hotel for almost thirty years now and they keep it up well. It's good to have a hotel with character and tradition. Cheerful and responsive people on the desk. And very central.

Chance to make tea in the room ... but it was easy to fetch one in

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great view from the room and an excellent location. Excellent, cold fridge in the room, with ice.

For the price we paid I would only have expected instant coffee, but a small cafetière and real coffee would have been a treat. The bathroom had some peeling paint, from the painted-over tiles. The bathroom could do with being renewed, but for the price it was perfectly fine.

It is a very good value hotel. Big, clean room and well located in the centre of the city. The hosts are very friendly and helpful.

The bathroom is a little old fashioned but perfectlt usable.
