The cuisine of the proprietor is of high quality. The tâble d'hôtes is excellent and we decided to eat there every night. The stories around the Château are interesting. The family's endeavour to keep the Château in running order is courageous. The strong points of the Château are idiosyncratic. Those who prefer a less personal and more streamlined hotel experience may differ. The dog is friendly and enthusiastic but does not slobber or seek unwelcome contact. It never barks.

Our advice to the owner is to give up the rigid denial of access to guests who arrive before 5 p.m. Not only is that hour late, but it creates a bad first impression. The terrace could be more welcoming.

Carl and Sabine were wonderful hosts and we enjoyed staying at their chateau very much. Being out in the French countryside so close to the Utah and Omaha D-Day beaches was perfect for us. Carl gave us many tips on the best places to visit, and we enjoyed his stories about the history of the chateau and the area. The traditional continental breakfast was appreciated also. The views from our room were beautiful!

Maybe some eggs at breakfast, but we know that is not usually part of a continental breakfast.

Carl & Sabine were very welcoming. The accommodation was comfortable however this is a historic building so is not as modern as some would like. Breakfast was simple but delicious with fresh local produce. Carl cooked a three course meal during our stay which was exceptional and gave us a mini history of the chateau. Added benefit of a quiet secluded location but within easy reach of all the d day landing beaches and museums. Makes an ideal base for exploring this part of Normandy.

We were fortunate to stay at this lovely Chateau in Sep 2023. Carl, our host, gave us a nice greeting and provided us with recommendations during our trip. The Chateau is wonderful and located within a short drive to Omaha Beach and Bayeux. Our rooms were quintessential beautiful Country French with period antiques and decor. You will get a feeling of old France when staying here. The breakfast was as advertised. Carl served us a private and perfectly fresh breakfast in his beautiful formal dining room. It was a great experience, and we definitely recommend a stay at this Chateau!

Our last stop in our week trip to France and we had such a lovely time. The hotel is run by a couple who have dedicated their passion for retaining the history of this lovely chateau. The accommodation is comfortable and an experience not to be forgotten, the large room was airy, and even during the very hot weather we had during our stay, the room was cool by the evening so sleeping was not an issue. The special nightly sounds from the bull-frogs and frogs lulled us to sleep. The bed was very comfy and the breakfast sublime. Very friendly hosts who booked us a table at a seafood restaurant in Grandcamp-Maisy on our first night. An excellent location to visit the Normandy coast and historic beaches.

Everything was lovely

The historical value of the location, Carl and Sabine were very gracious and friendly and Carl is very knowledgeable of the history of the area. The breakfast was not only great with local items but interacting with other guests from different countries was truly a great bonus. Sitting outside in the evening after our day trips drinking the local cidre and playing with Newton, the chateau dog was a great way to end the days.

I can not find anything to mention about not liking.

Breakfast in the 17th century dining room. Our hosts who regaled us with many historical facts and stories. Newton the dog who sat beside the fountain looking out for a kingfisher who was seen.

Sadly our host was having a week off cooking dinners, however he did recommend excellent local restaurants.

The chateau was absolutely amazing and our room was too. We had breakfast in the main dining room which was a real treat.

The only thing to say was that you had to hold the shower head yourself, there wasn’t anywhere to place it. Not a big problem at all, but that was the only thing we can say we didn’t like. Would not stop us staying again.

Carl Engstrom was a fabulous host who also served up the most delicious and bountiful breakfast each day! The 1643 built Chateau was quite amazing to be staying at. Only wish was that bathroom had a real standup shower instead of the hose attachment on the tub but we understand trying to keep the rooms in historical configuration. Also, Carl’s wife (can’t remember her name) was very nice and helpful and Winston<the family dog was a great addition.

So much history! The desk in our room was older than America! The host was fantastic. He shared the history of the chateau and made dinner reservations at wonderful restaurants for us.

You have to drive to get to a place to have dinner. But it was well worth it both because the property was great but also because the restaurants were wonderful family run establishments.
