Stay was exceptional!! Service was the sweetest in all of Germany and the room was nice and clean; perfect for my stay of 2 nights. As a professional idiot getting there via Google Maps was a bit worrying because there's no listing for "Gästehaus Alter Keller;" there's only "Restaurant Alter Keller." Fear not, the guesthouse and restaurant are in the same building. You check in at the reception for the restaurant and from there they gave me the option to add dinner reservations and breakfast buffet (10€/person.) Highly recommend that breakfast. Bathroom is directly attached to the unit and private. The building is right in the city center off the main tourist road so you can immediately walk out into your day in the city.
These are more things guests should be aware of rather than genuine gripes about the property: Yes, the floors aren't completely even. It didn't bother me. You're staying in a building that's hundreds of years old, so I say that's part of the charm. I had to re-sign into the wifi network every time I went back to the hotel for some reason, but other than that it worked well. Room was a bit colder than I would have liked but it was no trouble at night, and it was also December, so that's kind of on me. I realized at the last minute that one of the glass bricks in the bathroom window was propped open as the only ventilation, so that's likely an easy fix.

Very charming old world accommodations that complimented our Rothenburg stay. Did not hear guests in other rooms. Clean and just off the main street so no outside noise. Close to the Christmas market. Rooms have all the typical amenities. Owners are very responsive and easy to contact.
No one will sneak up the stairs - they are very creaky! Wasnt a big issue for us since there are not too many guest rooms that would create a lot of coming and going. The floor in our room was creaky too but you will learn which boards to step on! Our room was above the restaurant but we did not hear the diners. Cooking food smells do permeate the common area but did not enter our guest room. Took us a little while to get the room heating right but that is because we are used to numerical thermostats.

This was my 5th or 6th trip to Rothenburg and this was my favorite in large part thanks to the room. It was a pleasure and I'll say honor to get a feel for the town staying in the historic building. I was expecting a smallish room but the room was very spacious, comfortable, and quiet. The staff were very helpful. The location was perfect--close to the key spots to visit but on a quiet side street. We didn't eat breakfast but we did eat one supper and the food was also fantastic.
I could not imagine a better room, no suggestions for improvement.

This property is within the city walls, which made it handy to take early morning walks without the crowds. We stayed two nights and had the opportunity to eat at the restaurant on Sunday night (the restaurant was closed on Monday). The Sunday dinner meal, as well as the breakfast served on Monday morning was extremely good. The hosts were very pleasant and hospitable. I would definitely recommend this location to others. There were 4 adults (two sisters and husbands), we reserved the family room (entryway with a shared bathroom plus two side by side bedrooms). This setup worked perfectly!

A traditional building converted to guesthouse. Although hardware is old, but the heart is cosy and warm. A stay with nice ambiance and lively history. Location reasonably close to all attractions, and yet off from main traffic and crowds, therefore pretty quiet. Staff are friendly. Very popular restaurant on the ground floor of the guesthouse. Need to reserve for a table. Breakfast with good choices.
Timber floor is a bit flappy that every step will make a sound. Not a problem for me, but maybe a problem for peoples under my floor. Luckily it is the restaurant below my room.

Very clean, great location right close to the center, good food as well inside the inn which was beautiful and traditionally rustic decorated. One of the waitresses in the restaurant was as well extremely polite.
Nothing really important, maybe just bit more adapting to customer requests at breakfast (they had a very good breakfast and also offered scrambled eggs, we asked however for fried eggs instead but they were unable to provide it even though it should be a normal breakfast request)

Gastehaus Alter Keller has charm, is clean, and is VERY well priced given its location. Lots of cute, charming touches. Wood beams. You feel more a part of the small, medieval town. The best part is the location. It's SO CLOSE to the town square, yet on a VERY quiet side street that we were able to leave the windows open all night without being disturbed. It was a pleasure to sit by the window and listen to the diners down below (don't worry, restaurant closes early). The bathroom was updated and shower surprisingly good for such an old building. Places like this don't have the "luxuries" of more modern or chain hotels, but they really add to the overall experience of the town.
A few things you should note before booking: - No AC. This is pretty standard in Germany, particularly in a budget-friendly hotel. We stayed during a HEAT WAVE and boy was it hot during the day. Cooled off well enough to sleep fine in the evening and hotel provided fans which were key. I would still stay again despite the heat... the charm was worth it. - I heard wonderful things about the restaurant but be aware that it (and many other places in this small town) close pretty early. When we went to try to get food a little after 8 it had stopped serving. We were super bummed and wished we'd planned better! Double check hours when you check in. - If you're tall you WILL bump your head. Husband is 6'1" and we had some good laughs over this.

This historic old building was very charming and the family room we stayed in reflected that. The room was clean and comfortable with so much character. The restaurant served both breakfast & dinner. We had dinner the first evening, it was plentiful and certainly tasty. Unfortunately we did not have breakfast but if it's anything like dinner, it will not disappoint. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderfully atmospheric house right in the centre of Rothenburg. Easy to get your car there to unload your luggage and then park in a public carpark very close by (€5.50/day). The room was small but perfectly clean, and I found great value for money. The owners were super nice and friendly and extremely helpful. They also run the restaurant downstairs which is excellent and highly recommended. We lived our 2 days there. Thank you.
Nothing we didn't like but 2 considerations for other travelers. 1) the stairs to the rooms are very creaky and can be heard from within the rooms when other guest and coming and going. For me this added to the atmosphere of this old building in the heart of a medieval town. 2) The room doors and ceiling is very low. Not as problem for us as we are short people, but anyone who is 6+ foot and suffers from claustrophobia may struggle. These are just notes to help other travelers, but we loved our stay.

The location is fantastic. We had the family room and another room on top level for a family of 6. The listing said they were double beds but they were actually the size of American King beds. It was very clean. The restaurant is the main business and it smelled fantastic. We ate there our last night and it was the best meal we had in Germany! Delicious!
The super old building has very crooked floors, but they didn’t bother us much. Thick walls meant WiFi was spotty.
