Staying at this hotel in the heart of Budapest was a fantastic experience! The staff greeted us warmly from the start, making us feel right at home. The hotel’s classic Hungarian style, with its rich woodwork and vintage touches, added so much character to our stay. The breakfast was simple but delicious. Plus, the central location is unbeatable. We were just steps from major sights, great cafes, and the river. For anyone looking to enjoy Budapest’s authentic charm with modern comfort, this place is a great choice.

No negative comments whatsoever.

Great location (5 min walk to river and 5 min to airport bus drop off spot and a metro stop). It has air conditioning which was very helpful since it was quite hot. The staff was terrific and very helpful. It also included incredibly large spread for breakfast. The room and bathroom were quite spacious. Negatives: the internet was a bit slow and the tv had no access to CNN or BBC or streaming channels.

The internet was a bit slow and the TV had no access to CNN or BBC or streaming channels. And the shower hose sat very low. Nonetheless I would definitely stay there again.

Kalvin House has a conveniently central location, within a block of the metro and the National History Museum, while being just off the main street. The building and rooms are "old", but that's mentioned explicitly; YMMV, but I am fine trading marginally lower comforts in exchange for antiquarian charm. The room was clean. I got a second big pillow on request.

I had to help a person who arrived after the reception closed due to a delayed flight get in touch with management because he hadn't received the code to the building and key lockbox. Without me he could potentially have needed to find some other hotel to stay the night. They should update policy and make sure that all guests get the needed information, including those who arrive after the reception closes due to unforeseen circumstances.

The room was a bit small but overall comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly, can't thank them enough. The hotel has a good location, everything is in reach (if you don't mind walking). Also, breakfast is nice and totally worth the price, but you need to ask for it way in advance.

I was baffled by the fact that my bed was located right next to the entry into the room and oftentimes could hear loud banging of the hotel's front door. The shared balcony is a questionable feature, considering that my neighbors could see my room's entire layout if they wanted to, because balcony door was the only source of natural light in my room.

The rooms are very spacious, the ceiling is at least 3 meters high. The furniture is practical, but a bit old, yet it fits the style of the place. The bathroom is huge too, but one has to be careful with the electrical plugs close to the shower/bath. The breakfast is better than advertised. What they do is they only have small portions at the buffet, to not waste food, but if something is empty, they fill it up again.

The types of bread for breakfast could be diversified a bit, since not everyone likes or can eat white bread. Maybe also provide multiple keys for people travelling in groups.

It was our first stay in Budapest and I don't think we could have found a more perfect place to stay. We traveled by car and there is a parking house very close to the house (Pollack Garage) where we parked for the whole week (weekly ticket 20000HUF/50ish euros). The location couldn't have been any better, it's between the Central Market Hall/Liberty Bridge and the National Museum/Jewish Quarter, everything is easily reached by foot, there are plenty of shops (tesco, aldi, dm, rossmann...) and restaurants in the area, we did almost everything by foot, even the stuff further away, but it's also close to metro line m4 and various trams (2 has a great view when you take it and grab a seat on the danube side) so the few times our feet were too tired to take us back we're covered too. The room was great, size of a living room with old furniture and high ceilings, a good sized bathroom with bathtub, I'm gonna mention that it's an old building and old rooms, so if you're into all the luxury of modern hotels it might not be for you, for us it was perfect as it is exactly the style we love and enjoy and one reason we picked the house in the first place. Staff was nice too from the little contact we had which was at the reception to check in and out (the rest of our stay we pretty much just went in and out with the codes for the doors, which was also super comfortable) and the room maids when we needed something (we were told the room isn't cleaned automatically, which was also perfect for us as we like to sleep in a bit, so we just asked for new towels and toilet paper every few days, still the room was made twice without asking, if you prefer it daily you can just hang out the sign). We didn't have breakfast so I can't say anything about that. What I can say though is that we will certainly visit Budapest again someday and I hope we can come back to Kalvin House then!

Everything was perfect for us, only thing we could think of would be a better showerhead/holder so that you can stand under it without holding it

Because Budapest was extremely hot it was a relief to return to our air conditioned room mid-afternoon. While not as cool as North American standards it was adequate for us. We also liked having locked luggage storage available for early arrivals. Mark who was working in reception was very knowledgeable and helpful. He also arranged for our transport to the airport (less costly than a regular taxi). We loved having a fridge to cool our water and store medications. Having an elevator to reach the top floor was a definite bonus. We took advantage of the breakfast option which was handy for an early departure.

Really, Kalvin house met our expectations as a budget friendly accommodation near to the city center. If we had to think very hard about it, the only thing that could be added is a room safe. One last thing: we can't recall if there was a posted emergency exit plan, (we already thought about a Plan B alternative). It may have been there but because we were worn out from the heat wave we didn't take notice. Apologies if our perception was incorrect.

Very comfortable, good air conditioning unit (you need it in Hungary in the summer). Exceptionally clean and tidy. Nice beds. Nice bathroom. Nice balcony. It even has a communal kitchen on the ground floor behind reception. A quick, polite and professional service from the staff - met my expectations. There are simple communications on how to check in (very easy). There is an elevator and it was quiet. Overall a very pleasant experience, however we were only there for a few hours to freshen up during an airport exchange. I'd definitely book again and recommend. Thank you for making our trip so much easier.

Nothing, everything was as it should be with a hotel room of that price

Pleasant and helpful staff, clean and spacious single-bedroom , good location and connection to tourist attractions. Various supermarkets, shops, coffee shops and restaurants near the hotel. Public transportation connections are near the hotel (metro station, tram station, airport shuttle)

Reception is out of work during the evening and night from 8 pm until morning. In front of my room, there was a mutual terrace used as an outside smoking area by other hotel guests therefore I did not have complete privacy. I had to lower the window blinds to feel more comfortable during my morning stay in the room

The location was really good, with the metro, trams ect right around the corner. Lots of restaurants, cafes, diners etc to eat from. Liberty bridge was also really close by. The breakfast was varied as well and well priced. The place was clean and the staff very efficient. They could also speak good English.

Some maintenance of the building would help. The TV did not work well and the WiFi was a bit slow.
