I had a great stay at Hotel Selfoss. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Our room was spacious and comfortable, providing plenty of space to relax. While there was an EV charging point available at hotel parking, it wasn't owned by the hotel and wasn't free. The breakfast had a good selection of options, ensuring a great start to our day. The hotel's location is excellent, situated along the main route, making it perfect for planning day trips around the area. Overall, I highly recommend Hotel Selfoss for a comfortable and convenient stay.
The hot water in the shower had a very strong sulfur smell, which is understandable given the area's geothermal activity with geysers and volcanoes. However, the smell was particularly intense at this hotel, more so than anywhere else during my trip, making it difficult to enjoy the shower. It was an unpleasant aspect of the stay.

The hotel is well located and the rooms we have booked for the two stays at the hotel had great views and were very comfortable.
Even though the breakfast is good with many options the lighting was disappointing. The entire place was so dark that we could not even eat properly because there were so many lamps missing. Also, during our second stay at the hotel they closed part of the restaurant and we needed to share the tables with other groups. Another negative point was the lack of instructions during the check-in regarding the Northern Light Call during the night. No one explained for us and we thought that the hotel was not offering this service but during the checkout we have found a piece of paper on the reception table where the guests should fill in case they wanted to be called.

Excellent location. Considering the price of food in this country, free breakfast for two was a huge value. Lots of protein options. The room was large compared to European standards. Excellent location across from the food court, Skyrland, the town center, and next to the river and a lot of little restaurants including an interesting fried hot dog fast food place. We saw the northern lights from our room. Efficient, modern, Scandinavian style room. Plenty of free parking. The hotel was busy but we didn't hear a thing in our room.
Not as many drawers as we are used to. Water pressure was a bit low. No outlet on one side of the bed. Minor quibbles.

We have rented a car at KEF Airport and planned a 5 days tour for the most interesting sightseeings. As city Selfoss is 50 km away about Reykjavik, so I decided not to cross the capital of Iceland every day as Selfoss is the optinal basis for daily excursions. Room is just 16 m2 so not too big but beautiful view to the river. Breakfest is expensive as generally everything in Iceland but 200 m from the Hotel there is a hipermarket...
In July there is no real sunset in Icelend so no darkness neither outside nor in the room. The curtain is not enough...

A room nicer than expected. Mineral water from the hot tap. Wonderful view from the restaurant and supposedly from the rooms with river view, which are more expensive. Good breakfast, however the vegetables are not tasty. Perfect skyr and bread. Good options for a walk around, since a bike lane passes by and runs along the river- splendid sun set at the river, it is worth to take a walk during summer in a good weather day-unforgettable views. Trade center and street food hall is very close by. Free parking for the hotel guests.
The complements in the rooms are instant coffee and tea-not interesting. No chocolate or espresso capsules. The SPA costs 15 EUR per person if you want to enjoy it. Staff at reception polite but not quite friendly and warm.

Great property. Breakfast was good Staff were very helpful
The main door of the property is hidden. And the car parking lot is like 50-75 meters away which means you have you carry or drag your luggage to the hotel door. It’s like 100 steps which on a normal day is not an issue but on a day when it rains heavily like it did when we were there, it’s painful. I saw an old couple just waiting for a long time to get to their car because of the rain. I offered to get the car for them but still it was some 100-125 steps of rain which they were not keen on taking.

The hotel is on the edge of town, by the river and easy to get to by car. The free parking was useful. We paid extra for a river view and were glad we did. The river is wide and fast flowing with rapids and it makes quite a view from a 4th floor window, with mountains in the distance! The staff were welcoming and helpful. The rooms were nicely done and everything was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. There is a restaurant in the hotel but also plenty of places to eat in the town too. Down by the river there is an information board about the lava ‘bubbles’ in the rock - some interesting geology.
This was the most expensive hotel we stayed in but I guess that goes with it being a large, business style hotel. A minor point - we didn’t find the lounge area very cosy, with what feels like a few easy chairs in the glass entrance. But there are also some easy chairs in one corner of the the dining room where it’s a bit warmer and more atmospheric.

The room was spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed. It was great to have an actual kettle and small fridge in the room. For a small additional charge you can access their spa, which was a very pleasant space to relax in a hot tub, sauna and steam room. The food at the restaurant was good and came with the added bonus of views over the river. Selfoss itself is nice to walk around, and the hotel has access to a walk right along the river.
We honestly can't think of anything we didn't like about the hotel or the area.

Location is great. 2 min walk to the world’s best Pylsur (hot dog stand, ask for the Icelandic salt on the fries!!!) Less than 5 min walk to Street Food (food mall), grocery store, drug store and gift shopping. SPA was excellent! Great staff!
Wish rooms advertised on websites were actual rooms you booked…typical Iceland switch, but the view into the interior was amazing. Visibility was unlimited (rare and seeing Hekla in the distance was stunning!). Oh and the Northern Lights dancing will keep you awake…it’s a good thing!

In example order, the breakfast was excellent, it was a great buffet and you just helped yourself. The staff were lovely and it was a great way to start the day. We had the riverside room and it was gorgeous, we were in awe when we first walked into the room. The beds were comfy the room was spacious and we loved being there. The location is fantastic, right in the centre of Selfoss. There are some lovely walks around the hotel and is close to all the best eateries, the staff helped us with finding the northern lights, and they were always polite and friendly. From the moment we arrived, we loved it, and we want to return to Iceland. So, we will gladly return.
