We spent a little more than two weeks in West Sumatra, and Padi Ecolodge was our favourite accommodation in our trip. We love the raw and relaxing vibe of the ecolodge. We miss waking up in the morning seeing shrews and birds on the tree right from our bed. We miss falling asleep and waking up to the sound of nature. We also miss Rio (nickname Yok) who listens to our juicy day report in the evening. We loved it so much that we decided to extend another night (and cancel our trip to Harau Valley). Thanks Jaka for helping us with booking Ayu travel to Kerinci.

I didn’t enjoy the local burning their organic matters but it happens across Sumatra so it isn’t the property’s fault.

The location and the buildings are gorgeous, with traditional minangkabau architecture set in a rice paddy. At night, you can hear the frogs - it feels like you're deep in the forest! The beds are comfortable and the room is light and airy. The food at the café is also "sedap", with freshly cooked breakfast. Staff were very helpful in organising activities and transport.

It is a fairly steep 20 minute walk up to the centre/shops - particularly in the rain, but that's what makes the place peaceful.

The room was very spacious, with an incredibly comfortable bed and great pillows, the windows all opened so we could have a lovely breeze flowing through. No AC, just a fan but as Bukittingi is cooler a fan was plenty, in fact at night we sometimes used the blanket! We had a lovely balcony with chairs so could sit out there, the bathroom was heaven! Hot water, decent pressure in the shower, nice clean toilet. Lovely gardens too and right next to the rice paddies. Nice breakfast too, pancakes or omelette plus fresh fruit, toast, tea and coffee.

There is very little WiFi signal so it was difficult at times to connect with our family. There is a cafe not far from the lodge which has loud karaoke music till quite late with loud bass, so not actually something wrongwith the lodge which was pretty much perfect!

the atmosphere and the style of the lodge itself, adapted from the traditional house, are excellent! the staff here are very nice and helpful, most of them are English speaker. the driver,Rio, they recommend are safe driver and good English speaker with rich local knowledge, learn a lot from him.

the restaurant is not impressive. the weather here is cool the air condition is no need, so the room is humid when rainy, and the tower is not able to be dry.

fantastic accommodation, extended our stay. The most beautiful room we have had in Sumatra. With the best beds! The accommodation was like a fairy land cottage. Location very close to town centre, but a bit of a walk up a hill. Didn't worry us as had scooters. Very handy to many local attractions. Can't emphasize how lovely the rooms were. Situated in the middle of very picturesque rice paddy fields.

EVERYTHING!!! The accommodation is soooo beautiful! The room is so comfy and relaxing. The view is so greeny that it's breath-taking and calming. It's also culturally aesthetic - Rumah Gadang! Also, Uni dan Abang there are both helpful and accomodating. Thanks alot. This is my very first time coming back home to Bukittinggi and I'm glad having my 3D2N stay at Padi Ecolodge. It was all pleasant experience.

Not that we don't like, but that will be more helpful if Padi Ecolodge has the self-trasport (such as bicycle perhaps) to go in-and-out from the accommodations :) Also, some lights on the paddy field path? It will be useful when guest return at night! 2 days we returned at night and we used our flashlight of our phone :D

The Padi Ecolodge is absolutely unique! The buildings are quite magical, with the walls leaning further out on each floor. The setting is also unique being in the middle of the rice fields but also just outside the city of Bukkitinggi. They organised the scooter for us which was delivered directly to us. Just be careful riding over the rice paddy walls! The woodwork of the buildings is amazing.

If you don't want a banana pancake, you can ask for an Indonesian breakfast.

The building itself is gorgeous and feels authentic Minangkabau style. There is a lot of space in the room to move around. The hot shower heats fast and only needs minimal adjustment to find the 'feels just right' temperature setting.

The hot water gets colder if you take a long shower so you need to keep adjusting the faucet to maintain your preferred temperature.

Padi Ecolodge is the place to go if you are in Bukkittingi, the people working there are really really nice ! I had a health issue and they were ok to drive us to hospital (at night!), the guy helped us with the translation and took us back home - im not even sure it was during his working hours and almost didn’t accept the money we gave him for all he did at the end. In general, everybody is willing to help you and the atmosphere there is so chill. You can rent motorbikes which is cool because it’s not really in the center. For the breakfast, the banana pancakes are good, but the peanut butter pancake “pour le goûter” is amazing hehe. We only ate dinner once and it was good too (the curry) The beds are really comfortable and the room is clean, we had a little balcony with the view on the nature around- perfect ! big plus for the team working there, the location (don’t miss the entrance tho, you have to work a bit in the middle of the paddy fields) and the room.

Beautiful and comfortable rooms in traditional Rumah Gadang style buildings, located in the middle of the rice fields. The location is perfect, very quiet but just outside of Bukittinggi. And the views of the valley are absolutely stunning. The staff are friendly and helpful as well. Jaka is always close by to answer questions or take you on a trip to some of the local sites.
