Stunning resort!! We stayed in the hill town of Orvieto for 3 nights and then stayed here in the countryside for 3 nights to get best of both worlds - we loved both experiences! The panoramic views from the pool were just beautiful. We enjoyed a pool day and liked the poolside bar (drinks and food) for a relaxing day. We ate at the resort restaurant each evening, we liked the food! The breakfast was great, huge spread with tons of variety. Resort staff helped us book taxis to and from Orvieto (30 euros). Clean, comfortable, and spacious rooms. There was a nice well lit path between our room and restaurant.

Our 3-night stay in the Altarocca Wine Resort was the highlight of our holiday in Italy. After the heat and crowds of Rome, it was a haven of quiet and beauty, set amongst vineyards and olive groves, perfect for a few quiet, lazy days. Also a great base to discover the region - Orvieto, Rocca Ripesena, Civita di Bagnoregio. We booked a picnic in the vineyards and spoiled ourselves with the Oil & Spa Experience. It was just magic. Our rooms were located in the Borgo del Vino; we had lovely big rooms, comfortable beds and air conditioning (essential in Italy in the summer!). It was a short (beautiful) walk to the Villa Gualtieri where the reception, breakfast room and spa were located. Both areas have their own swimming pool with loungers and bar.

Our only negative comment would be that we had extremely flimsy plastic cups instead of glasses in the rooms, and paper cups instead of tea/coffee cups. Surprising for a resort catering to the luxury adult market, and not sustainable. Also a coffee machine instead of instant coffee would be a plus.

The staff is excellent; patient, very friendly, most even remember your name (or the name of the room you're staying) and very helpfull. The breakfast is 'Italian' but with added 'continental' elements (like scrambled eggs); so it's more than enough for all diets (gluten free is also provided for, by the way). The food in the restaurant is excellent and the wines (of their own vineyard) goes very well with the dishes. The pools are big and clean, enough chairs and beds for all guests. The one we preferred had a very nice view over the valley.

Pools were clean and there were chairs available; Wine experience was a highlight of the trip! Gym was well appointed for a hotel gym! Quiet and beautiful scenery!

While breakfast was included, charged for coffee beverages. Beverages at the pool were expensive and small pours. There was not any option to have food delivered to the resort.

After traveling to Munich, Innsbruck, Sorrento and other cities in Europe, we arrived at The Alta Rocca wine resort . The moment we got out of taxi we immediately noticed the amazing Fresh air and peace and quiet. We loved our romantic walks, great food, fabulous views, phenomenal wine, a breakfast to remember, peace and quiet, and did I the mention fresh air?! Shout out to Roberto who took the time to make us feel at home. Memories for a lifetime. Thank you for a relaxing vacation from our vacation! K and Kevin

Spa use should have been included in the price and not additional....or a reduction for residents. Would be good to have complimentary bottle of wine and glasses provided in the rooms for residents Shortage of mirrors in main room. Lack of sufficiently detailed and reliable maps of neighbourhood.

The resort was in winter mode which was perfect for us. During the week (14 day stay) we had our room and building basically to ourselves. Weekends had a few more guests but everyone was very polite and quiet. We were in Orvieto looking at property so the resport was a fantastic basecamp.

Not to like? Pillows are stiffer than i like but i travel a bit so i just adjust. Otherwise, the resort is ideal for short or long stays.

The room was well appointed with comfortable bedding and chairs. The restaurant was very good and we enjoyed the ambience. It was nice having a pool although the water was a little cool for swimming, but it was still early in the season (late May). I called reception to ask for glasses and ice to have a drink in our room and within 2 minutes there was a knock on the door. Their Orvieto Classico wine was excellent and we bought 2 bottles. Wish we bought more!

Plastic glasses and paper cups for tea/coffee are unacceptable in a four star resort. We ate in the restaurant both nights as there are no other restaurants close by and we didn't want to tackle the winding road and search for somewhere to eat in the dark or drive all the way into Orvieto. It would have been good to have the bar open in the main part of the hotel with maybe some light bites to eat instead of going to the more formal restaurant again.

The breakfast was very good. The staff was wonderful.

We weren't sure how to get there when we arrived. We had a private tour in Orvietto. Our train was over 2 hours late coming from Rome. We had to check our luggage at the train station, take the furnicular up to the top, have our tour late and then ate dinner up top. When we returned to get our luggage at the station, there were no buses or taxis available. My phone had died and it was pouring rain. A nice young man in the store at the station allowed me to call this property, and they sent a taxi for us.
