Amazing value for money, good location, the washroom is an onsen. Although everything is a little old, it seems to be maintained pretty well.

The facilities are rather old and could use some renovations, but then again that would probably result in an increase of the prices, so it's actually nice that this affordable opinion exists.

The place feels cozy and comfy (despite or maybe because of a bit outdated rooms and facilities). The rooms are basic, but clean and serve the purpose well. Downstairs there is a great spot for hanging out, with a guitar and toy rifles (you can shoot for prizes like at a fair). The kitchen has two fridges and a lot of space. The onsen was under reconstruction, but we got a free ticket to a nearby public onsen, which was hot and nice. The staff was really helpful and attentive.

The futon were quite thin (compared to other places). Only two electric sockets for the whole room & bathroom (for three travelers it's a little lacking).

its a interesting place, the place has visibly a lot of histroy, lots of space in all rooms, common room, kitchen, onsen, you name it. you even get a free bike to ride anytime you want. did i mention onsen? yes it has onsen. And for the price you pay this is exceptional. But i still cant give it 10.

the place looks too old. I would suggest owners invest a bit into property. honestly its the worst maintained property ive seen in japan, and dirty. Still I liked the place, but if it was a bit renovated owners could go for a higher price. both parties win.

Very traditional feeling given by this hotel. Our room with the futons was big and great, especially as we had the family room we could use the 5 futon and make it more comfortable (less hard). Clean and cosy. There is a kitchen that you can use. The common space is really nice. We enjoyed the onsen inside the guesthouse, even if it was pretty small. Two really nice perks : they lend for free bikes, so we used them to go to Beppu Hells. And you can make and eat cotton candy for free too. The staff was helpful. Conveniently located, close to the station.

The bathroom was old and very basic. This is the first time I have to pay to have a towel in a hotel/guesthouse (not talking about hostels). When we can have bikes for free at the same time, we found that quite weird. Nevertheless it was not expensive, but still.

Such a quirky place, loved the lower floor with it's lovely and cozy seating area and the funny game room (even as adults we had great fun playing the games). There's a big kitchen and two gender-separate Onsen area. Furthermore an outside foot bath, free bike rental and even a cotton candy machine! So many perks! Friendly no fuss staff. Private room was of a good size. Bathroom was clean. Plave looks a bit worn but definitely has its charm.

No towels provided Didn't have the best sleep unfortunately due to the futon being very thin, woke up with a back ache

It is an old building but it is close to the city town and station and also it has an onsen. everything at a very low price; the partners in the room where really nice and kind. The kitchen was super clean and you could cook everything you need; also, the onsen has soap and shampoo; there are quite a lot of families so there was a nice atmosphere! What else do you need?

Maybe because it is an old building, the walls and stairs smells a little bit but not big problem;

Onsen was great, hostel offers lots of free things like the foot bath and bike hire. Very good value for money. Feels like staying at grandma's place which is a bit old and worn but cared for.

Futons and pillows were a bit thin and hard to sleep on (we had a family room for 3). Not having an elevator was a bit hard with large luggage but that's pretty normal in Japanese accommodations.

This place is great value. It’s a little run down but has everything you need. We had a good sized room with lots of windows and light. There’s a communal bath as well as our own bathroom. There’s a washing machine for free. The kitchen is handy and kept clean. Good vibe with a range of people staying. Close to the station and shops. Helpful staff.

The decor was a little outdated and dilapidated but it had no bearing on our comfort.

even though some of the interior is showing it’s age the place is nice and clean and the beds were comfortable. the staff was always willing to help and the Wi-Fi was reliable. for me the best part was the free bicycle rental and free laundry, I went everywhere with the bike and hanged my clothes dry in my room. all this for a cheap price, can’t beat the value.

Common spaces were nice, there's an Onsen bath available, service was good.

The washrooms were a bit inconvenient, rooms a bit tight fit, and bathwater a bit too hot for me. Nothing serious tho. Still a very good place to spend a few days.
