I absolutely loved my stay at Ronenai Base. The hospitality from Sheesa and Kuwa was exceptional - at the end of my stay, I felt like I was leaving the house of a friend's. Some of the (many!!) highlights included: being only a 20mins drive from Asahikawa airport; got recommendations for sights to see, & places to visit; had daily brekkie which was Japanese or Western style & there was a dinner option if advanced notice is given to the hosts; the futon was comfortable bed; and, there was a sauna which I could use on a daily basis. It was such a relaxing week for me! Looking forward to staying here the next time I'm in Biei. Thanks again to Sheesa and Kuwa :)
Nothing, I loved every bit of it!!!

Literally the most comfortable, quiet, amazing place I've ever stayed!!!! When we arrived we were asked what time to prepare our daily private sauna and we opted for after dinner. We then sat down to a multi-course incredibly cooked Japanese dinner filled with vegetables, meat, and fish, and it was truly so delicious and included in our stay! We then went to the sauna which was so spacious and beautiful, wood burning, and smelled so nice with the wood paneling. There was a private plunge pool and warm bath as well as a shower to use privately during our hour long sauna session. Also, the toilets are "shared" but there were 3 or 4 so it did not feel that way and they were SO CLEAN and in private, single rooms. We then went to our room which was HUGE. Easily the biggest room I stayed in while in Japan. The beds were extremely comfortable, there was heat and AC, and tons of closet space as well as a desk and enough space to do yoga. The room was also so quiet and lovely. Breakfast was another huge highlight of the day with both American and Japanese style home cooked meals! The location was perfect. We went to Daisetsuzan national park, nearby Biei and Furano/Kamifurano, and Asahikawa. The area is surrounded by beautiful farmlands and we went on a jog in the morning on day which was beautiful. In the evenings we sat in the main living/dining room area and they always played fun/soft music and had a wood burning fire going. They also had a full bar you could choose from and our evenings were so relaxing and perfect. Then we would do it all over again! Lastly and most importantly, the hosts were SO kind, hospitable, and warm. They poured their entire lives into this place, it's only 2 years old, and they designed and built it themselves. You can tell how much love went into it. They're both incredible skiiers and surfers and just want everyone who stays there to have the best time.
NOTHING it was literally the best place ever.

we loved this boutique hotel so so so much. Although it is a little bit far from most things, the facilities and food and the hospitality from the owners have far exceeded our expectations and made up for everything! It is a 20+ year old building that the owners bought and renovated. Rooms are so clean and well kept, mattresses and pillows were comfortable. Although there were shared toilets (and this can be slightly troublesome), the toilets are fully automated and very clean. We had full board (breakfast and dinner) and we were here in summer. Food provided was excellent and cooked so well. The produce used were all from within the farm!!! (how much fresher can food be??) It was like 'farm to table' experience. Rice was from the vicinity too. Meats used were from Hokkaido. They even had a variety of natural wines (mostly imported) and a good variety of sake. We had very tasty sake. The owners also took a lot of effort in building a traditional (? Swedish) sauna and japanese bath. The water used was boiled using firewood in a traditional firewood stove?!! We both enjoyed these facilities very very much. We're sure this is even better during the peak of winter after skiing for a whole day. The owners (sorry I didnt get your names) were also such pleasant people and were very hospitable - this made the entire experience soo perfect. (tip: They are snowboarding coaches! they teach during winter season :) ) Thank you!! We will be back :) I will highly recommend this place to friends!
Everything was nearly perfect! We only wished we could have double beds - minor inconvenience. There was good selection of natural wines - but may we suggest including Hokkaido's own natural wine too :) ?

It's a very small hotel, and the staff were exceptionally helpful. If possible, order the breakfast and dinner - both were absolutely delicious and used a lot of fresh local ingredients. Another amazing feature was the wood-fired sauna and baths. Guests can reserve the bathrooms to use privately (I think for a maximum of one hour) and after a long day of hiking it was fantastic.
The walls are very thin - you can hear everything that your neighbors in the next room are saying. Don't forget your earplugs.

We used this hotel as a base for our hikes into the mountains in summer. It is perfectly located for this. The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable and were able to advise us for the best walks we had in all of Japan. Apart from that, we had the best food of our whole stay in Japan here in this hotel!

The warmth of the welcome - such a lovely restaurant / bar area with wood burner - and the lovely couple (sorry forgot names) who looked after us so well. Private sauna and bath, amazing food and great things to see near by.
