The best feature of the hotel is her proximity to the castle. I put up with those awful narrow lanes to the car park at the foot of the castle to see harassed drivers queuing there with no hope of finding a parking space or being up at the castle before sunset while I just zoomed up to the hotel next door, parked my car and walked to the castle in 10 minutes. That's why the hotel can proudly say on the hotel information that they were not an onsen hotel and they didn't have a big public outdoor bath. Guest should wash in their private bathroom if they needed to. The room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was sumptuous and tasty. I'm a bit tired of the buffet style breakfast but they offered a J breakfast set which is way better to me. Coffee and other welcome drinks were available in the lounge all day. The safe in the room is much bigger than average.

Perhaps the lift (elevator) could be in the centre of the sprawling building?

Ten minutes walk uphill to the castle along a beautiful winding road, and similar down to village. However taxis are cheap quick to arrive and easily booked by the hotel reception. The staff are incredible as is the chef, and restaurant staff- the kindest reception and most timely serving of delicious food. The hotel is surrounded by lovely Japanese gardens with an amazing view to the town and across the valley. A real escape into the Japanese countryside. We also loved our room - it was huge, remarkably clean with large comfortable beds, fabulous bath and we were provided with gorgeous toiletries and all the essentials. We wished we had booked for much longer, given the work the staff out in to prepare rooms.

Loved everything about it

Outstanding place! Really loved it; The room was so cozy and comfortable, big too, which is something for Japan. Their bathroom had a nice hot tub where you can easily take hot baths. The location was fantastic! Underneath the castle, such a beautiful location indeed! And only 10 minute albeit uphill walk to the town of Gujo Hachiman. Their breakfast was amazing, home cooked Miso Soup, vegetable soup and was very filling. There's also free coffee all day long and orange juice & Tea from the afternoons to early evenings. The staff was also very polite, nice and pleasant. Will overall recommend!

Nothing not to dislike. I really enjoyed my stay! Wish I stayed longer!

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Sekisuien. It is a nice modern hotel, the staff were very responsive and friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious with attentive servers. Gujo Hachiman is a little off the beaten path but I'm glad I visited the town and stayed here.

The hotel is on the road up to the castle which rules out any easy stroll around town. But it is a manageable walk and there is a shuttle bus available for your arrival and departure. The location also affords some wonderful views.

Hotel Sekisuien was a lovely experience! 1. The hotel staff was very kind and accomodating, and tried very hard to communicate with us when we asked questions/for help/service. 2. The hotel is in the mid-way of the mountain! It is easy to walk down... but a bit of a challenge to walk up! There is a shuttle bus to and from the station/castle plaza, thankfully. Please contact the hotel ahead of time to set a timing for the shuttle bus to pick you up. Aside from that, the hotel also provides for a shuttle bus to pick guests up from the castle plaza every day, but only upon request at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm or 6pm. Book your timing at the front desk if you would like the shuttle bus to pick you up (and avoid the walk up half of the mountain)! 3. The hotel doors close and lock at 12pm every night, so be back before that or inform the front desk that you will be back late so they can unlock the front door for you. 4. The rooms are very lovely, clean and comfortable! We had a room that faced the mountain, and it was very nice and scenic. 5. The dinner service is very delicious ( for about Singapore dollars $55 ) - it is served in courses at the hotel restaurant, and they will serve you different dishes each day if you order the dinner for multiple nights. It is also a convenient option for those who take the last 6pm shuttle back to the hotel and want their dinner after that. KIV that the hotel is in the mid-way of the mountains and there are no other restaurants/eateries around- you need to go down to the town at the bottom of the mountain to have your meals there otherwise.

loved the room and the bathroom. Right now it is summer. So i arrive to my room hot and tired. It feels great to arrive back to such a comfortable room. I had my room with a balcony, which had a nice view of the mountains. the music in the hallways is a nice touch. The breakfast is good. There's this miso paste they roast with some mushrooms that i especially liked. They also offer croissants and bread, coffee and orange juice. which i appreciated.

the walk up the hill to the hotel. i think its about a 5-8min walk. i guess it cant be helped. Though.. it being near the castle which is on the same hill makes locating the hotel very easy especially at night.

I stayed in a 4 bed room. The room was huge and the fixtures were all very new. There was even a small living area with a table and chairs to chill at. Everything was well thought out. There were only about 20+ rooms in this whole hotel and it felt very exclusive. The hotel is located on top of a small hill but we drove so it didn't matter. We had full board, so dinner and breakfast were included.

While the ingredients were fresh, the dinner items were not as awesome as we expected. A wider spread would have been nice considering the price paid. We were also provided with rice which was individually cooked in a small pot while we ate. However it took quite a while to complete cooking and by that time we had mostly finished with most of the dishes. Further more it was plain rice so it was a missed opportunity to pair it with some of the items we had earlier. The servers were very very nice and patient with us and they made the meal special nevertheless. The hotel lacks an onsen which was a shame since it gets dark pretty early in this small town and it would have been perfect to have a nice soak in the evening.

Clean, large and comfortable room, beds and bathroom. very beautiful hotel and area!

It is difficult to reserve the free shuttle ahead of arrival because we don’t speak Japanese and they speak little English. They also suggest to pre arrange a taxi if we arrive outside of their shuttle times but also hard to do that w language barrier. This property is far from public transportation. once at the hotel it is an easy 10 minute downhill walk to main town area, but a steep walk back to hotel.

Beautiful location with amazing view of the city. Very relaxing, clean and spacious room. Breakfast was very good. While the hotel is an uphill walk from the main town center being closer up towards the castle, the walk was still doable. The parking on site was super convenient. We have to thank the staff for being able to answer our questions and help us with luggage storage. We had a wonderful time!

Absolutely nothing!

The staff went above and beyond helping us with travel arrangements and restaurant reservations. I cannot stress enough how kind and helpful they were. The room was large and recently remodeled. It was nice to have space to spread out a bit.
