November 2024

We really enjoyed our autumn stay at Mojo Condo, which is a self-contained part of Mojo Lodge. We hadn't realised that the rest of the lodge would be closed during 'Green season', so it was slightly disconcerting to find everything so quiet when we arrived. But the quiet turned out to be a positive as it meant our stay turned into a lovely meditative mountain retreat. Just us, the local monkey tribe (cute babies) and the bears (which we only encountered as fresh paw prints on the gravel road). Once we'd made ourselves at home, Mojo staff came to find us to make sure that we had everything we needed, including shuttles to get groceries etc. And when I got sick, they helped out with info about English-speaking pharmacists and doctors. I really appreciated that. The condo itself was great, with all the amenities we needed, including coffee and tea and water. Very comfortable beds, plush linen, and a great shower. The surrounding forest is truly beautiful, and we loved gazing at the yellows and reds of the autumn trees from our bed. Hakuba in autumn is so worth a visit.

One thing to note is that Mojo Lodge is slightly tricky to find, even with the aid of Google Maps. We had a hilarious trip with a local taxi driver trying to locate it, but we got there eventually after a few turns up the wrong dirt roads. For reference, Mojo Lodge is directly behind Sekkasai Lodge, which is easy to see from the road. Another thing to be aware of is that much of Hakuba is closed down in autumn, so the selection of restaurants is pretty slim. But the Lawson is always open for supplies, and the gondolas and chair lifts run, so you can access the surrounding ridges for breathtaking views. Well worth it.

It's more like what was there NOT to like? Firstly, the location of the lodge was very convenient and It is fairly close to most of the major ski resorts around the area which is real nice if you drive a car. Even if you don't have a car, they offer a shuttle bus that will take you to bus stops that will bring you to the ski fields. It's also not too far from convenience stores and other stores in Hakuba village as well. Upon entering the lodge, you will find that they have a nice drying room where you can stash your snow gear away. They have many racks to hold a lot of equipment, boards, clothing, helmets etc. They even have a stand if you need to wax your boards which was nice and handy. They had a washing machine which was free to use and it came very handy as I didn't need to worry about going to a laundromat. In the rooms, they have a heater which keeps the rooms nice and toasty (great for drying your clothes etc after washing) and even a wall mounted heater in the bathroom to help keep warm after a shower! The bedrooms themselves felt roomy, with comfortable bedding and pillows. I normally struggle when sleeping in hotels or lodges when travelling and it takes me a few days to get adjusted, but I had no problems sleeping here and it was a very nice comfortable sleep. The service was absolutely amazing and it is probably the best highlight of staying in this lodge. The breakfast service was superb and I definitely do recommend getting the breakfast option. They served a variety of delicious hot food, cereal, fruits, coffee and tea etc. Enough to keep you full for the rest of the morning. The staff were all amazing and were very helpful, especially Michael who was very nice and went above and beyond for us, giving us many helpful info about Hakuba and tending to all of our needs. I definitely 100% recommend this place to others and I hope to come back again in the future when I visit Hakuba again.

Before arriving we got very detailed instructions from the property on how to get into town, which were helpful to reach this small mountain town. On the way there we messaged the WhatsApp number that we were sent and arranged a pickup at the airport. They were waiting for us right at the train station. The building itself is great and it feels and operates more like a cosy BnB than a hotel. Upon entering we took off our shoes at the front door and were given some useful advice by the friendly staff. Overall it was very comfortable to stay there. Each morning one of the staff personally makes you a hot item and there are several cold things to choose from as well. The building is in a quiet neighborhood of other BnB type of places and is a great place to stay. It is about a 10 min walk from the bus station and a convenience store and 20-25 from the train station. Near the end of our stay, we told the woman making breakfast about our departure plans and we arranged another ride to the train station. I would highly recommend staying here.

The room is a bit small, but that seems to be the Japanese style. Given that this is a tourist destination that focuses on being outdoors, I didn't spend much time inside anyway.

Where do I start, the whole stay was fantastic from start to finish. The owner Souza contacted us to find out our arrival time so that he could pick us up from the bus terminal and throughout our stay dropped us off a nearby slopes, to the local 7/11, restaurants and onsens. The breakfast provided every morning was delicious and generous enough to fuel a day snowboarding. As it is a small lodge, you are able to get to know the other people staying at the lodge and it was very lovely getting to know everyone and share our stories on the mountains.

We are a family of 4. We were given 2 adjoining rooms with a private bathroom, which were suitable for our stay. Breakfast and location were very good. Nothing fancy but the breakfast served each day was different and very tasty. Location is also very near the happo bus terminal and happo ski resort.

The lodge seemed short-staffed at times because there were occasions that there was no one at the reception for a few hours during the day. Other than this, we had a pleasant experience.

Everything was what I expected. You get what you pay for it is very good value for money the ensuite rooms are tight but like I said it is not a 5 star hotel and meet our expectations. Will happily stay there again.

Not much you can change as the rooms are already build but they are very tight. If you are looking at spending time in your room only this would not be the place to stay, however they have a very nice downstairs area.

The staff was very friendly and easygoing from the very beginning. And the location is great - central to most of the mountains, hot springs and restaurants.

I thought the general upkeep and cleanliness of the place could have been better, especially the entrance where there was just a mess of shoes and slippers all over the place. The dry room was in a similar condition.

Location in Wadano was so lovely in the forest with the snow. Peaceful and quite, but easy 10 minute walk to Happo One Village. Great value for money, breakfast was great considering the low price, staff were friendly, informative and helpful. Small rooms but absolutely to be expected, as per booking.com website. Would definitely stay there again.

Not alot really.... was looking forward to sitting around the fire, but it wasnt lit whilst we were there.

Mojo Lodge was a pleasant surprise in my trip to Hakuba. The facility is a great value but the best part is definitely the staff. I booked fairly last minute and the manager Souza was very communicative and helpful. He coordinated my pickup from the bus station even though I missed my original bus and was arriving after the normal pickup hours. Daniela came and picked me up and was a fantastic host for my entire stay. She showed me around town and made me feel very welcome at the lodge and in Hakuba. I would highly recommend staying at Mojo Lodge and will definitely visit again.

The staff were super friendly and helpful! There's fresh baked goods and bacon for breakfast! And plenty of fun stuff like board games to do in the evening or rainy days.

The room was much smaller than what I expected. Basically just enough to fit the bed in. There's no AC either, just the fan. But considering the price is lower than the average in that area, I think it's fair.
