This is a great value for money in a superb location. Despite being right in the midst of Gion it was quiet for sleeping. There are absolutely no frills - really the bare minimum of space for bathroom and beds, no restaurant, and front desk staff only there certain hours - but if you want to save your money for sightseeing and dining as we did you can't do much better. Clean and easy to deal with. A couple tips: you can get breakfast next door at the Granbell for under 2000 yen if you want to eat something other than coffee early in the morning, and get the benefits of a much more expensive hotel without paying for the room there. Also in Japan you can send luggage ahead with various luggage transport services which means you don't have to lug bags on the shinkansen - and the hotel had these brought to our room before we arrived which was great.

It would be nice to have some food options in the morning for breakfast, and the staff wasn't always at the front desk. The bathroom is also only EXACTLY big enough - in fact the sink and bathtub share plumbing. Hard to get dressed in there, for example, if you need privacy from your roommate.

Location is very easily accessible as it is near to bus & train station. Near attractions which is walkable by foot (near many sakura locations) & Hotel staff is friendly & nice. When we early check in, they help to store our luggages then transfer to our room when it is ready. When we come back from our walk, our luggages are already in our room (which is fantastic service!). Overall experience is above average. If given another chance, will stay again in this hotel.

Room is small similar to other Japanese hotel thus is comparable (open one luggage then no space to walk). If remember correctly, after 10 pm there will be no receptionist at the front desk until next morning.

Just a 2 to 3-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station, or a 10-minute taxi ride from Kyoto Main Station, the location is highly convenient. It is in proximity to the shopping district, ensuring there are no concerns about finding places to eat, attractions, or shopping opportunities. We arrived early, during lunchtime, to drop off our luggage since the actual check-in time was after 3 pm. Despite having a group of 10 people with numerous pieces of luggage (10+), the staff was exceptionally friendly. They assisted in storing our luggage in the storage room until our return late at night, just before 11 pm. Moreover, they even arranged for the next shift staff to be on standby in case we returned after 11 pm, showcasing flexibility in their support. Bravo to their accommodating service.

I don't recall disliking anything during our stay, appreciate about everything.

Right in the Gion district and a block away from the main street with tons of stores and convenience stores. Minutes away from the train station and the famous Hanamikoji street where we were lucky enough to see some real geisha's (actually maiko's). Heard it was rare to see them so we were really lucky! The room itself is a bit small but we were out the whole day enjoying the attractions and food and only came back to sleep so it wasn't a big deal. Beds were comfy and staff were friendly. Within walking distance of famous attractions like Yasaka shrine, Hokanji temple, Todaiji, and Kiyimizudera. They also provide umbrella's in case it rains and a nice self serve counter at the check in counter. Definitely would be staying here again the next time we come. I can't wait!

The room was a bit small but we were out the whole day and only came back to sleep so it wasn't a big deal. Plus the location in central Gion was so amazing that it made up for it.

Extremely helpful staff that speaks English. The hotel was very helpful in accepting our luggages via Ta-Q-Bin luggage forwarding. Although they do not deliver out for luggage forwarding, there is a nearby FamilyMart within 5 mins walk that serves as a luggage drop off. It's near the Sanjo train station and surrounding bus stops, which connects directly to many key attractions within Kyoto. The coin laundry is helpful for light travelers, and the room size is spacious for its price.

Bathroom and toilet are 2 different sections of the room, taking up precious space of the room (bathroom space can be reduced/ toilet and shower area can be merged do there will be more space to move around and arrange stuff Water temperature for shower is inconsistent; you have to adjust knob every few seconds. The water becomes too hot or too cold immediately.

The room is relatively much more spacious compared to a usual hotel in Japan with sufficient luggage space for 2 person. The shower has amazing pressure. Although they do not do daily cleaning, they provided extra and more than enough towels needed for the 4 nights. Location was great. The self-laundry is convenient and affordable (400yen for the entire process of detergent+washing+drying). Loved that the TV is a smart TV with Netflix and Youtube! The staffs are very attentive, halfway through the stay our room door access had intermittent sensor issues, they were able to sense my partner walking to the staff area even before we spoke and attended to our troubles.

Minor issue but it would be better if the shower and sink tap control is separated.

Superb location in the centre of Gion with plenty of restaurants and shops and all the main sites just a stroll away – Shirakawa Lane, Keninn-ji temple etc, even Kiyomizu-dera – which is approx a 25-minute walk away. As someone mentioned before, be sure to get the correct address as there is another "Laon Inn Gion Shinbashi" on Google maps. The room was decent and clean with a comfortable bed and a shower with all amenities, hairdryer etc, and there was scarcely any noise at night, even though it was on a lively street. I felt safe as a solo female traveller. Lovely staff.

The window opens, so there's fresh air, but it opens up to a narrow space between the hotel and the next building, so don't expect a view!

Our stay in Kyoto was absolutely phenomenal! The location of this property in vibrant Gion was a highlight of our trip. We enjoyed being able to access so much so quickly. There was even a subway line that went to Osaka with only one transfer! This was exciting for us as a few travel buddies situated themselves in Osaka to party. The actual room was quite comfortable with amenities like laundry, free tea, a comfortable shower/bath, and clean room. This spot was an awesome home base as we explored Kyoto. The local buses and subways got us where we needed to go with little to no trouble as well.

Everything about this stay was decent. If you do not like crowds and tourists, this may not be your favorite spot. It is in a very busy area with large amounts of people. The actual hotel is down a side street but you do need to feel comfortable dodging around folks a bit!
