from the beginning to the end, we felt so comfortable with a very nice place. the room was according to our expectations and we had a great time in the thermal bath (onsen). dinner was superb, with the staff explaining to us each dish and how we need to eat it. breakfast was very diverse with mutilple choices for oriental and occidental meals. definitley, if returning here, will come back to this hotel

staff didn't speak much of english when we arrived, but we managed to use google translate to anwer our questions. for dinner and breakfast we had staff that spoke english and was more comfortable to us.

The staff was courteous and helpful. Many spoke English, so while we never expect it, it's always a bonus and makes things easier. The breakfast bar had a wide assortment of both typical Japanese and Western breakfast foods. And dinner was AMAZING. It started with appertif, then appetizers, sashimi, hot pot, grilled meat... There were at least 8 or 9 different servings. We were stuffed and couldn't finish everything (but I tried 😉). The onsens were luxurious, as was our room, which came with the sauna. We had a room with a tatami and roll-out beds, so I could've used a little more padding, but that didn't detract from the experience at all. I enjoyed this girl's trip so much I booked again with my family.

Excellent Ryokan with many options for the onsen. It was worthwhile booking with dinner and breakfast. Dinner was delicious and breakfast selection was huge.

Could be a bit hard to get to the location without a car. There is a bus from Matsumoto station that will take you there but it is not going to have much space for luggage. The staff try their best but not all of them can speak English. Best if you can speak a bit of Japanese

The hotel is in a great location overlooking the city. The onsen facilities are brilliant and we also enjoyed the games room. But the real highlight was the incredible kaiseki dinner - several small courses each served or cooked on the table. It was a real work of art. Very special. And after all the amazing food we had had in Japan, we were really impressed.

Beautiful decor that told about the crafts in the area. They had a live jazz group that brought so much joy and happiness to us. The spa/osen was exceptional. They had all the bath essentials needed and the best part was the wonderfully after bath products they provided—Lotions for the skin and face, lotions for aching body parts, and wonderful products for the hair. I wish we could buy these products somewhere, but was told that they were only at the osen. The dinner was amazing with local produce and meats and the breakfast buffet was out of this world. They had Japanese and western foods with made to order omelets. We wanted to eat there the whole week! The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Also we loved the baggage holding service at their sister hotel, Ace Inn and the shuttle from the Matsumoto station to the hotel. We dropped our bags at the Inn and it was there for us when we checked in at Shoho. We had a wonderful time at Shoho!

Excellent onsens! Spectacular and relaxing views. Staff were all really friendly and attentive. Everyone was so nice as well and well equipped facilities. We had mini snacks given every day and free drink stations. Dinner and breakfast were yummy and large variety. It has its own bus stop so public transport was easy too!

We’re a bit strange but there was only heating in the room and no aircon so it was a bit too warm for sleeping. But hotel staff were super helpful and helped us open the windows.

Friendly staff, spacious room, good amenities, nice shuttle bus service. Good varieties of breakfast.

- The room was (extremely) warm and room temp couldn’t be adjusted cuz the building uses central heating (as we were told). The staff brought us iced water in the end. - We barely used the shower in the room as it was too old and small, and the water pressure was significantly lower than standard (like we are in the desert climate) We had to use the public shower. - The room is somewhat dusty.

Shoho was an amazing experience. We had a family room with a private onsen/bath. I used the bath 2-3 times a day, and found it very restorative. The food was absolutely outstanding. We ate breakfast here, and also did 1 dinner as well. The dinner, despite being several courses, was modified to fit my severe food allergy. The way they accommodated my allergy made me feel quite special. Like I said, the food was outstanding, it was so incredibly delicious.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The Onsen venues are remarkable. Huge and has good views in one of them. Food spread at breakfast is sumptuous, allowing us to taste the different Jap cuisines all in the morning! The dinner was also a good experience with quality food served. I must commend on a staff at the reception who took the initiative to reserve a place for us when she learnt where we were going. Without that, the second night dinner could not have taken place as the place was run by only one person.

I really have nothing to add here, considering the reasonable price I have paid. Only perhaps travellers should note that this is quite far off the city.

Room and onsens were very nice. Hotel lobby floor has nice seating areas.

The hotel has 3 restaurants but if you do not include breakfast and dinner at time of booking, the hotel restaurant’s staff is not very accommodating. The hotel was recommended to us by our friend, a Japanese travel agent. She and her daughter came and stayed at the hotel, for one night, to visit with us. They wished to have breakfast with us the next morning but the hotel could not find a time for them to join us at the breakfast buffet. When we ate at 8 am, the resturant tables were half empty.
