The location is great. 3-5 minutes walk to the bus station to go to Happo-one and 8-10 minutes walk to the bus terminal where you can get on a bus to go to other ski resorts. The buses are free if you have Hakuba valley ski ticket. It seemed intially quite daunting about how to get around. After the first bus trip, the rest of bus rides became so much easier. It is walking distance to a lot of bars and restaurants. The staff members were super friendly and helpful. We liked the traditional Japanese breakfast, which was different each morning. The hotel restaurant is facing Happo-one ski field, with amazing views. There is a small spa/Osen in the hotel to relax after ski each day. There is a ski storage in the baseline level, which keeps the skis and ski boots dry overnight. The hotel is actually nicer than the photos show. Overall, the hotel offers everything we needed for our ski trip. It was a great value with functioning facilities. We would stay there again.
The bed is a bit hard. I guess that's just personal preference issue.

Our stay at Happokan honestly exceeded expectations. We can confirm the reviews singing the praises of the two women who run the place are correct - they were so attentive (eg. realising my partner drank coffee at breakfast but I didn’t) and kind. Happokan is also in a convenient location for access to Happo-one slopes, ski rental, the main bus terminal and the bus stop outside Panorama for shuttles to other ski areas. We also really enjoyed our Japanese-style breakfast each morning and our end of day onsen. The rooms were spacious (especially for Japan) and the Japanese futon beds were very comfortable. We would definitely stay again at Happokan!
Nothing.

From the moment we arrived, the exceptional service made this stay truly special. This charming boutique hotel is run by two wonderful ladies who go above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcome and well cared for. Their kindness, humility, and cheerful nature created such a warm atmosphere. They provided invaluable local tips, helped with shuttle bus services, and even offered discounted ski lift passes—a fantastic bonus! The rooms were spacious and comfortable, offering breathtaking mountain views. While the bathrooms are basic, they are clean and functional. One of the highlights was the onsite onsen, the perfect way to soothe tired legs after a long day on the slopes. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby, but the included Japanese breakfast was a standout—delicious, beautifully prepared, and changing daily for variety. A few Western options were also available for those who prefer them. Overall, an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to return next season!

The staff are absolutely amazing. So nice and literally cater to your every need. Obviously English is their second language but with a little bit of google translate, everything worked out perfectly! They helped us take all of our suitcases up, gave us extra pillows, and we had little Japanese treats every time we came back from a long day of snowboarding! The place was exceptionally clean and tidy, and only a 5min walk from the nearest chairlift! The location was near everything, even the bus terminal, that takes you to other ski resorts! They even have their own onsen which was great! We booked a room that had mountain views and it was honestly so worth it! Everything was perfect and we’ll definitely be back!
We loved everything!

BEST hotel of my trip due in most part to the most lovely hosts ever! The two ladies who run the hotel were both so friendly and welcoming and always wanted to help in any way that they could. Their energy will bring a smile to your face. Room was clean and had plenty of space, split system heating/cooling which worked great. Very good onsen downstairs (open 24 hours), coin laundry, and drying room for ski gear was very effective. Also the best foot massager machines available to use free of charge as well. Breakfast was solid, a traditional Japanese set menu which varied every day, plus cereal/toast/coffee that you could serve yourself as well. Good location, very close to bus terminal (3-4 minute walk) and easy walk to spots for dinner.
Can't really fault anything! Thanks for an awesome stay.

What a nice quiet place to stay in Hakuba. First of all, the location is good as it’s within walking distance to the bus stop for Happo One slopes, as well as the main Happo Bus Terminal for the other slopes. Lawson & many of the restaurants for Happo One are all within walking distances. The staff are fantastic, they definitely pay every attention to detail & take care of you. The breakfast every morning was brilliant, with daily varieties (we were there for 6 nights) & definitely filled us up before our days at the slopes. The Japanese traditional tatami room is decent though a bit small, but that’s to be expected & more than adequate for both of us to have our two luggages opened. Oddly our beds on the floor were mattresses rather than futons, but not that this was an issue. The other facilities like dry storage lockers for your ski equipment is good & plenty of space. The onsen is good & up to the Japanese hot standards, though only downside (depending on your preference) on this is that it’s only indoor. Daily usage of the onsen, I think I’ve only seen 2-3 people during the entire period so it’s quite private as well.
I mentioned good location, but there are others that are even closer or right next to the bus stops for the slopes (especially when you are walking in your ski boots). There’s a small flight of stairs at the entrance that requires you to drag your luggages up, before you get to the lift to your rooms.

Great location, the hotel is about 5 mins walk from Hakuba bus terminal. It is a family run hotel and the fantastic breakfast is freshly cooked each morning. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating, albeit they can speak very basic English, there is no trouble communicating with them. You can also get a discounted lift pass for Kakuba Goryu from the reception. There is an onsite onsen which helps to relax the muscles after a day of skiing.
The room is a bit on the small side, however this is fairly common in Japan especially in the ski town. The Fulton is the room is a but too hard to our taste.

Whilst it is a fairly basic room, the staff and other amenities are what make this hotel a wonderful place to stay while visiting Hakuba. There are two ladies who run the entire establishment and do an excellent job, always greeting you with a smile and doing that little bit extra to improve your stay. The onsen, ski storage room, and daily Japanese breakfast were amazing during our stay.

The hospitality was excellent . Owner was attentive and her husband who is the cook was amazing . We had dinner there and it was the best . The onsen was great and felt very authentic. The location is quite good with shuttle to go to happy one nearby. You can walk to restaurants very easily and main bus station
We had the Japanese style bedroom so beds were on the floor . The duvet covers do not go all the way around so you can see the stained duvets from the top . Not very welcoming to get into bed . Closets had no hangers and there were no HOOKS anywhere to hang up your ski parkas, helmets , etc . Pls add hooks by front entrance , outside bathroom room and in the room so clothes could be organized.

Noriko and Hisako are masters of hospitality! They left no stone unturned in making us feel welcome, comfortable, special, and valued as guests. The chef created daily wonderful breakfast fare, which we very much looked forward to each morning before hitting the slopes. Happokan is a wonderful place to stay in peaceful, Japanese style, run by wonderful people. Arigato gozaimashita.
Nothing at all.
