I am honest it is not the best hotel on earth BUT I loved it nevertheless. You can see that it had been a luxurious hotel once and now maybe it is more likely to be booked by backpackers. But really, it was a nice stay. It really depends on what your preferences are. My preferences had been: - offers Onsen and doesn't care about tattoos - near the Senjogahara Marshland (戦場ヶ原 to go on a hike - has a bus station close-by. This hotel offers an Onsen (with its own water spring!) Even for people with tattoos! This was the main reason I booked the hotel. It was worth the trip!! The view over the lake is wonderful. Alternatively there is a really tasty restaurant near-by (20-25 minutes by feet) called "Taro". Fish, meat, vegetarian or even vegan meals are available. It's very tasty there. But be aware that the last bus takes off at 6 pm from Nikko Station, so if you want to eat dinner later then that you will need to go by feet and walk next to the street. Didn't bother me, though. There are machines with instant noodle and other food in the hotel lobby, but probably you should buy something decent in the conbini in Nikko city or at the little super market next to the Taro restaurant.

As long as you are aware about the bus schedule (last bus arrives around 7 pm, takes an hour from Nikko Station) and relatively hard availability of food (and are fine with both of these "hardships") I can only recommend this hotel. You can book dinner additionally (ask the service staff at the counter). According to reviews the food is great but relatively expensive.

Honestly everything. It’s not the most modern hotel but to me it has his charm. The traditional bedroom is beautiful and so big. Only 8 rooms in the property so not many people on site, I was almost always alone in the onsen. I recommend taking a walk down the lake from the property and explore. This was such a relaxing stay for me, I loved it.

If you’re not aware that the location is fairly hard to reach to and don’t have a plan for meals, it might be challenging. But I knew about those things and the stay felt extra special

The property is rite at the bus stop 32, very easy to access to the lake and walk 20 mins to the Nikko Futarasan Jinja shrine..

if u travel there at night time, bettet get to the hotel before 5pm because the last bus is at 6pm and takes 1 hour to reach the hotel.. its very dark and hard to get to the hotel.. better have car or small luggages other wise no one help u to bring upstair.. and staffs cannot speak english well, no restaurants so only have dinner there or at the nikko station before heading to the hotel

The location was great in a calm area close to the lake. When checking in we received very friendly greetings from the staff. Access to the onsen area was included in the price. Healthy japanese style breakfast.

The downside of the remote and calm surroundings do mean that restaurants and other options for food are limited in the area, Nikko is about 30 minutes driving away so if you have a rental car you'll be fine. We stayed in the japanese style room which was a nice experience, but if you prefer a softer bed to sleep in you will probably struggle with the thinner futon beds.

It's a lovely quiet location about 15 minutes' walk from a small town area. It's around 40 minutes from Nikko on the bus, but it's a beautiful ride up the mountain and is exactly at Tobu stop number 32. From the hotel, it's a comfortable walk around the lake to Ryuzu Falls and further, if you enjoy walking. The hotel is traditional, with futons on the floor and a shared bathhouse downstairs. There were no meals available when I stayed, and dinner options at the nearby village were limited. If you're a flexible traveller and enjoy walking, beautiful scenery, and are happy with a more traditional style of accommodation, this offers unbeatable value. I would definitely recommend staying, and if you have the Nikko Pass, it's perfect.

The hotel location is perfect (we rent a car in Nikko), the room is amazing and big, the shared bathroom is very clean and the bath is incredible to remove the tiredness of long walks !! Nikko is the perfect place if you want to be surronded by Nature (lake, forest, mountains, waterfall...) far away from stress, noises etc The only point you have to be careful is to order breakfast, dinner from the front desk in advance otherwise (in November) the restaurants were open from 11am to 16pm. Fortunately there is a small market near by, a vending machine and a microwave in the hotel which is very convenient.

Peaceful little hotel at the lake with its own Onsen. They allowed us inside the Onsen without us having to cover our tattoos, which is not something you can take for granted. The staff was friendly and the room was very clean. The room was super spacious, especially for Japan!

Unfortunately, they were not able to accommodate vegetarian food at the hotel restaurant (which we would have loved but did not expect because finding vegetarian food in general is hard in Japan). The hotel's location is super peaceful, but remote, so it is only accessible by car. Be prepared for a drive down a serpentine road if you want to Nikko. It's fast to drive to many hiking spots from there though!

I really enjoyed hot natural baths. Japanese-style equipped room, big-sized and comfortable. We had nice view of forest where we could observer wild monkeys and deers in the natural environment. On the other side nice view for lake.

The restaurant were closed, and even breakfast was not available, although description on booking.com says it is available. It was one of our decision factor so we were negatively surprised. Fortunately we were by car so going to the city was not a big deal, but without car it would be really disappointing.

Great location, only a minute’s walk down to the lake and there’s a bus stop right out the front. We could see the lake from our balcony and monkeys in the trees in the morning and evening 🙉 Only a short walk back to Chuzenji onsen area for food, supplies or sightseeing activities.

No breakfast or dinner service, but we made sure to make meal arrangements before heading back to the accommodation each night 😊 staff were accommodating and heated up our meals for us!

After a long day of sightseeing around Nikko, having the onsen at the Lake Side Inn to go back to was just what I needed. From Tobu station, you can get to the hotel by bus. It sits right on Lake Chuzenji, and many different attractions are within reach. It was my first Ryokan experience and the room was exactly what I had pictured. Tatami mats, roll-out futon, and a nice view. Plus the vending machine in the lobby was a nice touch. Great experience.

If you're visiting Nikko, and especially the Lake Chuzenji area (or further), I'd highly recommend renting a car. I wish I had known this going in but it's not the most accessible place by foot (although you can make it work). I didn't reserve any meals, and the town was too far a walking distance for nighttime, so I had to hunker down on some cup noodles for the night. The hotel itself had no downsides (but a noticeable sulfur scent in the onsen)
