The Ryokan was fantastic! It is located in a lovely Tokyo side street in a quiet neighbourhood, but close to the Sky Tree, Asakusa and Kappabashi street. The futons are super comfortable and the room is small but smartly designed, with space for all you need. The place was quite quiet when we went, so despite sharing the bathroom and the toilets, we never really had to wait at all and everything was clean and quiet. It feels the building had a lot of secret amenities, like the onsen/bathtub, the roof terrace, the kotatsu, the shared small kitchen with free tea. We run out of time to try the tea ceremony! But the highlight was the breakfast, cooked every day by the team. They had 3 vegan options and they were all delicious - our first experience with natto and it was the best one we tried in the whole trip! The staff is lovely, the common room is great. This place has the best value for money I have ever seen, when we come back to Tokyo, we would definitely try to stay here again. Thank you so much for having us!

You need to plan your day and set times for breakfast and using the hot tub ahead of time, which can place constraints on your trip - but this is not a criticism, it is a warning that a guesthouse requires a bit of planning that staying in a hotel does not.

My wife & I really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Andon Ryokan for the final nights of our Japan trip. The location is great. Minowa is a more quiet area but super easy to walk to the busier sights of Asakusa or take the trains to other sights. There’s many great restaurants and public baths within walking distance. The host family was so kind and helpful. We much preferred staying in a family-run establishment vs a corporate hotel. The rooms are small, but the tatami floors and futons were very comfortable. You’ll be sharing a bathroom with the other guests but they have several so it wasn’t a problem to have to wait. The private jacuzzi bath was a nice treat. Also recommend getting the breakfast. The food was delicious and filling and there’s not a lot open early nearby. Check-in was super easy. We arrived very late due to some travel issues but they messaged us with instructions and left us clear notes on what to do.

The rooms are on the small side with basically just enough room for the futons and luggage. There were plenty of hangers, cubbies and a small storage closet so it wasn’t a huge deal for us.

Staying at The Andon Ryokan was an absolutely lovely experience! The property itself is beautifully designed, blending traditional charm with modern comforts. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. One of the highlights was the superb breakfast—beautifully prepared, fresh, and a perfect way to start the day. The hospitality was also outstanding, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay. If you’re looking for an authentic and unique place to stay, I highly recommend The Andon Ryokan. I would definitely return on my next visit!

Such a quiet neighbourhood, I slept so soundly. The room was comfortable and plenty of space for 1. I loved that you can help yourself to really nice tea and take it back to your room. Don’t miss the onsen (ideally before bed for a great sleep!) and check out the roof terrace. A lovely stay, maybe a little pricier but that seems to be the norm for a ryokan. I think breakfast should be included at this price. Note to vegans- even though the menu says vegan friendly on some dishes , you still just specify, otherwise you’ll get some meat on your plate! My mistake

If it was a bit cheaper I would have booked another night for sure!

Nice traditional Japanese hostel style accommodation with the futon and tatami mat set up. If you’re looking to stay somewhere in Tokyo with a more local/traditional feel, this is worth a look. Comfy, clean with friendly staff who speak English. Good breakfast on offer (both western and Japanese) and a hot tub. Found a good ramen spot at 2 Chome-14-6 Minowa, Taito City, Tokyo 110-0011. Enjoy.

Not much to add here but location could be better, but that can’t be helped. Depends what you want: more or less hustle and bustle. There is less hustle and bustle here.

I don’t understand why this is only listed as a two star property. I went to a three star resort after this that was just awful by comparison! Maybe because it’s petite & minimalistic? I loved everything about the Andon Ryokan. It’s clear that the owner is an artist and has put his artistry into every aspect of the place. It’s extremely clean and the staff is very friendly – not just professionally friendly, but friendly like they actually care and want to give you a good experience. The one item of food I tried was very good. And I just completely love the atmosphere Throughout the Ryokan - casual, yet very friendly and very clean. The accoutrements were good too – we had a shared bathroom, but there were plenty of bathrooms to go around, so that didn’t affect us at all. The Jacuzzi room was also very nice. I would absolutely happily stay there again and wish I’d rebooked there on my return route through Tokyo.

Unique and memorable experience for a first visit to Japan! Staff was very friendly and accommodating, and spoke English. I read reviews before booking, so I was aware that the rooms were very small and the facilities are all shared, and set my expectations accordingly. Bathrooms, shower, and onsen (hot tub) were all very clean. The onsen was super hot! Fun and relaxing. I highly recommend having breakfast there - it's delicious and convenient, and you'll get to meet other travelers. The location is a quiet residential area, I felt very safe walking here at night.

Really enjoyed this experience... the only thing I can say is that I personally would want more space and privacy for a longer stay, but for my 2 nights here, it was great.

This is a nice, relatively modern ryokan in the North of Asakusa. Warm welcome by English-speaking host who offered a variety of Japanese and Western breakfast. Shared washrooms and showers give a bit of youth hostel vibe, but there is a very cute bath with big shower that you can reserve as an alternative.

The location felt a little bit remote for my taste, it is a mostly residential neighbourhood. Walking to the center of Asakusa takes about 25 minutes. The next metro station Minowa is only 5-7 min. away, however. 4 stops to Akihabara. So still very well connected.

Lovely staff, room was clean and shared facilities were easily accessible and clean, with shampoo and soap provided. Spacious shower. Easy to book onsen/jacuzzi om top floor.

It wasn't clear when to book the breakfast time for the next day, which is required for the Japanese breakfast option. Messaging through booking.com worked fine. It's a bit out the way if you're looking at exploring Asakusa, but that was made clear in the booking details so was not mislead.

The beautiful bedrooms had super comfy foutons and a lockable door that was great for a peaceful night sleep. Our room was opposite a shower with a noise cancelling door and 2 x bathrooms. The lift for baggage was also fantastic to avoid dragging luggage up the stairs. We were a 5 minute walk to the closest subway stop - Minowa. We enjoyed an amazing breakfast made by the owner and had the opportunity to choose from traditional Japanese breakfasts or get a taste of modern breakfasts with their cinnamon French toast! Delicious!

I wouldn’t say there was anything we didn’t like. It met our needs perfectly. The room size was cosy and fit our 2 big luggage bags in without a problem.
