It is a bungalow built on 1929. Itself is a beautiful building worthy to take many photos. It has best city view and far sea view during day and night! It has best sun rise view. It is inside Penang hill, so a good start for hiking around, to visit nearby bungalows. It provides very good food, so some local people come here by train for just having a meal. It has a very nice owner Raj. Do chat with him, if you can meet him. It has two lovely dogs. Do play with them. It provides many free instance drinks.

Nearby no other shop or food stall.

The view and location was great. Staff were excellent and it was a wonderful and peaceful stay on the hill. Will definitely go back for a longer stay. Also a great place to hike up the hill.

Nothing I can think of. Everything was good . It is a place to connect with nature so it doesn't have all the facilities of a city hotel. It is meant for discovering nature and simple living.

It's great stay at Hickory. My family members love it and would like to come back again in the future. The owner is friendly and the food is good. We love the scenery from the garden. It's so easy to see sunrise from the garden and having meal in their garden is awesome. It's a great place that I would recommend to others for family gathering!

I don't like the pathway to the bungalow from the train station. It's tough for senior to walk the steep road to the house but the owner is friendly enough to help if you inform them earlier. If it's not senior, the road is fine.

This is a stunning property with probably one of the most beautiful views in Malaysia across George Town and the Straits of Malacca, with a direct view of the sunrise. The house is extremely cozy and comfortable, with tons of space and lots to explore in the surrounding area. The owner was extremely friendly and shared a beer with us whilst explaining more about the property and Penang Hill. The other staff were also very helpful and the breakfast was delicious.

The only issue is accessibility. You can only access the hotel by a paid for jeep, by a steep by path, or a train that runs just once an hour. Make sure you have good shoes!

Beautiful and comfortable house and grounds, with an amazing view over Penang. The property is surrounded by a lush forest with an abundance of wildlife such as giant squirrels, dusky leaf monkeys, and birds. The staff were very polite and helpful. Very good breakfast included, with other meals provided on request. Free flow of instant coffee and tea available. We also had fun interacting with the two cute and friendly resident dogs.

Several staff and guests were smoking even though the whole of Penang Hill is supposed to be a smoke-free area. Insects kept flying into the room via ventilation holes on the wall. Payment for meals by cash or Touch n Go only (no card). The house is a short but steep hike from the closest funicular train station, which requires a decent level of fitness.

This was meant to be a family getaway not too far from town but away nevertheless and this was perfect. It was not luxury but definitely comfort. The owner was always available and was very accommodating to all our needs. He catered very well to all the personal needs our group needed especially the vegetarian food and ensured that one of our group who had mobility issues was well taken taken of. The ambiance on the hill was awesome. The little things that made it very convenient like the tea and coffee station on each floor, the availability of lots of board games, and the homely atmosphere in the hotel were a good addition. I would definitely go back again, especially as a group.

One member of our group was badly bitten on return but that could be any insect in the jungle, as to take the train we had to walk a short distance to where the train goes along a jungle path

The owner of the hotel was friendly and answered all my queries promptly. He was also very accommodating. The staff were Amazing - helpful, very obliging and always service with a smile! The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Everything was really well maintained in this colonial bungalow. The views were stunning! The food was delish and we ordered a lovely carrot cake for my uncle’s birthday. The steamboat dinner on our little private veranda on a rainy evening provided for excellent night views of the city lights below and the atmospheric experience of stunning lightning bolts lighting up the night sky! What an absolute treat. Will definitely be returning! Thank you Raj & team!

Everything was Perfect!

The british bungalows on Penang Hill were used for convalescence in the past. Had a really nice time of rest and restoration. The view was amazing. Staff were always ready to attend to any needs. Will return in future if possible.

This is a shared space with other guests. Met some very lovely pple. But also had an inconsiderate group of 4 elderlies who made a ruckus late into the night. Maybe staff could have taken the initiative to remind them of the 10 o’clock rule.

Really love the view at the top of the city. Night city and sunrise is magnificent. I happy with facility provided at for us to sightseeing the city. Can meditate, relax and chill with hot coffee. Thank you to Mr Raj and the staffs for the warm welcoming and hospitality, very kind and polite. Food is delicious, can pay e-wallet Touch&Go.

If you're looking for sunset, this is not for you as it goes down on the other side. A big happy loving dog is around the yard, if you're not comfortable, you can ask the owner to keep in the doghouse (for muslim).

This place is wonderful, with an unbeatable view, lovely friendly staff that is very reactive to any request, and a very nice vibe in general. Perfect for family get togethers, or for a peaceful stay in a nice environment. Comfy rooms, cosy common areas, with a great selection of drinks, and amazing food. I wish we stayed here longer. You can't easily get there or leave with a simple car or taxi, it's either by funicular (only 1 train/hour stopping there & operating till 8pm), or by pre-booking a Jeep, as it's a very steep way uphill. So it's not very flexible to move around. This should not prevent you from going there though, but better to know this in advance.
