Taiping is a hidden gem of Malaysia and this hostel is similarly a hidden gem as well. Very comfortable rooms with ac that blow nice and cool, and a location that is very close to everything you may want to do in Taiping. The host as well is extremely pleasant. I came to Taiping with no idea what I should do, and the host gave me plenty of ideas to fill my itinerary. I couldn't recommend it more.

There was a very short scheduled black out during my stay but this was extremely uncommon and the host went above and beyond to make sure I was aware and that I was okay with staying at her establishment despite the minor setback

Very clean dorms with 4 capsule beds each for better intimacy. Great organisation of the dorms, AC and fan for each bed, a cabin and mirror to change in the room with more privacy. A closet to lock you things. Very clean bathrooms. The host is very nice, there is delicious chinese tea at your disposal, and the common area is very pretty with artwork and other unique objects. I ended up extending my stay in taiping because the environment was so nice.

Only mixed dorms. As a woman travelling alone this is not so great for me. Also there is no machine or specific sink to wash your clothes so this can be annoying. There is a place to hang your clothes and dry once you washed them by hand in the shower basin though.

Lin was an amazing host. I had enjoyed long conversations with her. She had recommended great places to eat nearby. This being the centre of town, there were plenty of food options nearby at all hours of the day. I also liked that she had never tried to sell any tours or packages, nor did I feel any pressure to buy the drinks from the cafe, unlike at many budget hostels looking to earn extra revenue. Filtered water and hot beverages were available, the WiFi was strong in my room, and the property was very clean. My room was the one facing the road, but the sound insulation was so good that I didn't hear the thunderstorm outside one night, even without earplugs. A small fan is provided in each bunk if the inside gets too warm when the privacy curtains are drawn. The reception hours are limited, but there are clear instructions for a late check-in or an early check-out, and you can leave your bags at the accommodation after check-out too.

There are only two bathrooms on the upper floor, which might not be sufficient if the property is full.

Great location right in the centre of town and 20 minutes walk from the railway station. Plenty of restaurants and a mall nearby, also within 10 minutes walk of the lake gardens and several museums. Owners/staff were very friendly and welcoming. The whole hostel and cafe was very clean, much better than other places we have stayed at a similar price. Biggest surprise was that the cafe had a great selection of craft beers from around the world, prices were decent for Malaysia which can be very expensive for drinking.

WiFi signal wasn't great in the room and even in the main bar area it was a little intermittent, everything else was great though.

Nice common areas to hang out and you can make yourself some coffee/tea/milo whenever you like. There is also a big selection of books. Our small room felt very comfy with the high ceiling and the shared bathrooms where nice and clean. We very much enjoyed the breakfast recommendation, walking around 7 minutes to a big hawker market that was full of locals. It was a great option for us while we did the night safari in Taiping. The park at walking distance is also nice to see wild birds and we also saw a large reptile swimming.

Location - Perfectly located. Several hawker centers, food markets, taiping lake gardens, taiping zoo are all within walking distance. (≦2km) *adventurer, birdwatcher and nature lovers can also hike up to Bukit Larut (Larut Hill) via several jungle trails from taiping lake garden. Staff - Hui Ling has been extremely helpful and attentive in terms of what to eat and where should we visit. The volunteer was friendly too. Felt like a home away from home. What to do/see around the hostel : Morning/Evening walk in Taiping lake gardens. (We saw hornbills) Walk further 10-15 mins and you’ll reach Taiping zoo. A must visit place for animal and nature lovers.

Could have been better if : - body & hair shampoo are provided (at least a 2 in 1 hair shampoo/shower gel) - there are more bathrooms (currently there are 2 shared by all guests) - they improve the water pressure (it was a little low)

The whole place was very welcoming and had an excellent atmosphere. The private rooms were nice and homely with a little desk, side tables and a good hanging and bag space. A/C and fan worked great. The shared bathrooms were clean and worked well for the number of guests. The location was great! Right in town near great food options and walking distance to the lake gardens.

The walls were pretty thin between the rooms so ear plugs are suggested. There was occasional street noise from passing cars and motorbikes. Our private room had no window, which made sleeping in very easy, but there were so many seating/chill place to hang around the place that it didn't matter much.

It’s a really lovely place, very clean and you have everything there you need! Also the Bunkerbeds in the mixed dorms get you some more privacy. The owner is super lovely and was always helpfull with information about what to do around. The commonarea is really nice and they also offer all kinds of facilities as e.g. a hairdryer oder an iron. And as well Taiping and its surrounding is a really lovely place with super friendly people and worth a visit!

A general note about Taiping: if you are travelling alone and looking for other travelors to meet Taiping might be a bit too “sleepy” for you, I felt like there where not a lot (non-local) tourists around and especially not a lot women travelling. (Which has nothing to do with the accomodation).

1. A huge common area, I met a lot of interesting ppl there. 2. Staff are very helpful, although they are quite short-staffed. 3. Bed is clean & comfortable 4. Very antique furnishing, probably they kept the original style of the building, it is quite reminiscent of the good old times. 5. Excellent locations, two big kopitiams are just opposite the road, the park is within walking distance.

The common space is very stuffy, and the room is quite cramped tbh. But i can’t expect much from this small town.

The retro theme is a big plus. Room and shared bathroom is clean. They sell craft beers and regular alcoholic drinks during weekend nights. Place is within walking distance from various eateries such as Prima, Kakak, Larut Matang, Yut Sun, PSL goreng pisang, and more. It’s also within walking distance from the Lake Garden and Taiping Mall. Be sure to ask the staff for places to visit and food to try, they have knowledge which cannot be found on Google.
