The location, centrality and ease of access

After our first night I asked for housekeeping nit to make up our room. This was agreed to by the housekeeper. We had made the beds, done the dishes and exchanged used towels for clean ones and got a few extra hot chocolates. Unfortunately when we got back from our days outings the room had been made over, personal items had been moved and the extra hot chocolates had been removed. My mother only drinks hot chocolate so that was extremely disappointing.

Have always booked at Captain Cook out of any motor lodge in Gisborne this place has been the go to for me and all my family that I have brought along on my journey to Gisborne and by far is the best place to stay the staff are so lovely here 💛💚💛 and is close to town and the beach ⛱️

Over the pass 5 in a half years I have always chosen Captain Cook to come and stay just a lovely atmosphere thank you Captain Cook motor lodge for having me and my mokos and family yous always make us feel welcome everytime so again thank you and see yous again soon 💛💜💛

Bed was comfy and ensuite bathroom was great and mobility friendly (no step up into the shower). Excellent water pressure in the shower. Loads of available parking. Location just a block from the beach and close to town.

Lack of places to put bags so they had to stay on the floor - no real bench to put things on. No real kitchenette. Extreme road noise - must be on the main route to the port for trucks, which seemed to run most of the night.

We were put next to a very noisy party that went quite late, turns out it was the staff xmas party! The next day a lovely staff member apologised and said we should not have been given that particular room on that night! She later gave us a bottle of wine, which was a nice thought, but it would have been better it someone had thought to keep that room free so noone had to lose sleep or feel bad for enjoying themselves the night before!

Great place to stay as a stop off to break up your journey and spend a couple of days exploring the local area. Comfortable bed and room also a decent shower. The cleaning was to a high standard. There's limited self catering facilities, a microwave, kettle and cutlery are available along with tea, coffee and a small carton of milk. A fridge was also in the room. There's plenty of local places to eat out so not much of an issue. The Aircon worked well, great for the hot evenings when going to sleep. Washing machines were available free of charge. The staff were very friendly and helpful..

No sink to wash up plates and cutlery, unless you use the wash basin in the bathroom.

Busy place. Well kept. Cosy and simple. Excellent location - so close to the city center and the beach. Great bang for your buck! Reception was super friendly and always so nice and helpful when you call them. The housekeeping staff were also very lovely to greet you with a nice and bubbly "good morning."

In room 1, sometimes there is a strange smell in the toilet/bathroom. Sometimes you can smell it and sometimes you can't. Try stand at the toilet door for a few minutes you might smell it sometimes like we did but other than that our stay was perfectly fine.

I received a free room upgrade upon check-in which I really appreciated. The new room was very spacious and super convenient; I especially liked the big desk I could use for some computer work. For me as a surfer it was also great to have a little backyard/garden area so I could hang up my wetsuits. The kitchenette was well equipped and spacious as well. Laundry facilities are available for guests to use 24/7 free of charge; you can watch movies à gogo with the Sky channels, and the wifi is fast and reliable. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was sad to leave after three nights and will definitely be back.

Firstly Rob made that first contact at reception very friendly and from then till we left Sunday morning both he and Chris were very friendly and helpful in making our 4 days there an enjoyable one.Special mention to Shelley who cleaned our accommodation on a daily basis..much thanks Shelley.

Everything was much more than expected so to find anything not to like is hard to find..location was great,within a comfortable walking distance to one of the main beaches,Waikanae Beach,the town and supermarkets..walkway along the river with a harbor view was awesome.

We messaged to say we were going to arrive after hours and the reception lady called us back to confirm. She then gave (aswell as sent a message) a pin to get our key out of a keyholder and our room number. The next day when we left our room at 10.42am, we hung the "Service my room" tag on the door and went out for the day. When we got back, our room was serviced, ready for use again. The Motel is close to everything we wanted.

The room we had did have a separate living area open plan and 2 x separate double bedrooms King Bed in one and 3 x single beds in the other which was really handy for us

Just a couple of minor things really - I forgot to mention to the manager - The fan in the fridge was noisy but I'm sure an easy fix (the kiwi knock didn't work though hehehe!!) also the shower head needs tightening so you can change the angle of it if you moved it from straight up and out to lower it a bit then it would flop down to point at toes, likely an easy fix as well. Apart from these minor things we all really liked the Unit and our stay.
